Your Default Setting

Posted By: Randy GageOctober 4, 2011

I’m in Bratislava, Slovakia (pictured here), the birthplace of my ancestors.  Yesterday I walked along the banks of the Danube River, reflecting on the last post.  You’ll remember we talked about whether I’m a savior or an arrogant jerk, since I’ve been accused of being both.

Of course the real answer is created by the expectations people bring to the table.  But you know what’s even more important?

The expectations you have for yourself.

You can’t be treated for prosperity; you must be open to receiving it.  And that’s true for all forms of success.  Even happiness.

Ever hear someone when something bad happens?  “I just knew that was going to happen!”   Then let them win a silly door prize at an event, or a radio station contest and they’re screaming, “I can’t believe I won!”

Everyone has a default setting.  They expect good things to happen or they expect bad things to happen.  So what’s yours?

  1. Hi RG,

Real power in this post. Expectation precedes reality.

I note how people are shocked when things work out nicely for them, and are not surprised when something bad happens.

Just yesterday I shared a neat manifestation technique I use, with someone, and the person was totally shocked when they manifested EXACTLY what they were looking for within 24 hours.....DUDE look WITHIN! It was you! Don't be shocked, be certain it had its origin in you.

When something happens in your life, whose fault is that? Blame your expectations. Change your expectations. Mold a new reality.

"What's the best thing that can happen?" I ask myself this question before starting any venture.

    I expect good, good follows.

Thanks for sharing your power Randy!

    Ryan

  2. So you have Slovakian ancestors. Interesting! My Pc defaulted last Saturday by not forwarding your 'Faith it till you make it.' Instead, I received again your very interesting 'Thr Role of Ego to manifest Prosperity'

  3. good things my friend! anywhere I go, at anytime, with anyone. And I expect good things to happens to my beloved ones too. That way I know that everything I learn from people like you, and that my unique connection with God is being used in the best way!

  4. Arrogant jerk does not fit in connection with you in my univers - Nothing have been better or more positive than getting to know you and what you give out for everyone. You are a gift to the world!
And my default setting, usually I expect good things to happen, and have done that most of my life. The "only" area that makes knots for me is in the financial area, and I really have to work keeping my thoughts positive, as it has scared me to death, not being able to pay my bills. I did a wrong turn a couple of years back (went down with a business)that put me in this situation and a lot of debt. Never before in my life have I been in this situation, and that has frequed me out!!! But with you good advice and guidence, I'm getting better at controlling it. Tough work - but I'm doing it :)))) Thank's Randy!

  5. Well? The light in that photo makes me think of the onset of eastern European winters. time for fur coats and sturdy boots. I like to repeat your mantras of the day at meetings where few are inspired, many are trapped in the major media din, and rarely hear positive and uplifting encouraging words (outside of Sunday services). The gist being - look for an obstacle and you find one. But look for the opportunity - there it is There I choose arrogant savior. Interesting default. Thank you Mr Gage.

  6. Bring on the good things! Life is much too short not to welcome the good instead of dwelling on the bad. I especially like this: "Change your expectations. Mold a new reality."

  7. Short, but valuable post Randy. It really made me think and it also reminded me that the journey to prosperity requires constant vigilance. I feel like I have made so much progress, but yet, I still do occasionally have those types of thoughts you refer to when something good or bad happens.

I'll keep at it though. One day at a time.

  8. RG,

WOW, That is it. I used to be "I never win anything". Until I won $250. in slots and a contest at work that required no skill just the luck of receiving playing cards for work I had done.

I now say "What happy surprises do you have for me today".

    Jim

    1. Thanks Jim, I think I'll put that one on my wall!

Thanks for another great post Randy and for creating the space for such uplifting dialogue.

  9. I expect good...always and all ways! And when something not-so-good happens, I call it good anyway. Why not? 🙂 And it's amazing how, although not obvious at first, the good becomes clearer as some time passes.

  10. well, i always spect good things i try to, but you always talk about "You can’t be treated for prosperity; you must be open to receiving it" and i use my critical thinking, but i dont get it, what do you mean exactly? or can you say in other words?

    THANKS RANDY =D

  11. Randy, m attending a church seminar on 'Emotional wellness'. Can't wait to go home and watch your new video. Thanks.

  12. For me, it's important to 'cultivate the mind garden' as Allen says and I do it by remembering at all times, that I'm blessed to be here and that in itself is something to be Joyous about! So my default most all the time (though I'm human and will slip from time to time), is to be happy and therefore filled with the expectation that miracles happen every moment.

I love re-reading 'As a Man Thinketh' since it reminds us how important the power of Thought is and how it affects every part of our life. Like the great Bobby McFerrin tune goes, "Don't worry, Be Happy!"

Thanks Randy for yet another great reminder.

  13. Ah yet intuition can sometimes read the future and let u know if good or bad will come out of one's choice. And what of the ancient warrior code "expect the best yet be prepared for the worst"?

  14. I really love expecting good things to happen. I think when you think that way, the happiest things do happen.

Although.... Sometimes bad things happen even when your expecting something good. I actually always expect people to be good. But, I have the hardest time when they don't meet what my expectation of what good is.

Isn't that interesting? Maybe we all have different concepts of what is good and positive. Perhaps that is part of the equation?

The thing is if we expect a person to be just all good or all bad, we will be surprised. Because no one is. So, in my opinion Randy, you are neither a savior or a jerk. But, I am sure at some point you have been both. I have too. But, maybe you are not human, it is hard to say, since I have never seen you in person. Maybe your not like Obi-Wan Kenobi, maybe your more like an android or an alien. 🙂

As a perfectionist, I have to work on my expections for myself. They tend to be a little wacky. I for instance wish to be sainted. I don't think that will happen.

    😉

  15. I always expect to be able to find the gooood in whatever happens. Is that the same thing as 'expecting good'? lol!

Someone asked me a few years ago, "do you like surprises?"

How about you? Do you like surprises?

    Got an answer yet?

I replied, "Ummmmm......" (because "surprises can be good or bad")

    (oh, reallllly? That's interesting thought.)

I anticipate Good. We were about to put in an offer on a house....anticipation of Good!
and then discovered it was already sold. Bad! Dag-nab-it!! Bad!!!
I usually spend a little while (hour or two) thinking that something is bad. Then I get a grip on my thoughts, and decide it is good. There is an even better home for us....we will find it soon.

  16. Here's something to ponder: how do you KNOW if something is truly good or bad? Without all data, past, present and future, we have no idea if something is good or bad. How about just observing everything in utter fascination? How about just being in awe of everything? Dare I say, childlike?

  17. Hello
I have been to Bratislava and I loved it, something about the energy and the buildings were so colorful. Great post. If many people really gave some serious thought to this question, they would probably realize that they usually expect not good things... we have been conditioned to be ''realistic'' and hope for the best but expect the worst. I admit i still worry about how certain things will turn out in my life but as I progress, I can honestly say that expecting good things t happen is becoming the more and more predominant mode of thought! This is one of those simple but not easy type things...it takes work to root out the junk, but it is surely worth it

  18. So okay, I know this is not about you. However, you did use yourself as an example. So...while I am figuring out my expectations for myself, I have decided what we should expect from you too. Isn't that nice?

Here it is: Randy Gage-healer, educator, and entertainer. That way we don't have to view you as a saint or jerk. So we will assume you will educate us, heal us, and entertain us. And when you don't we will think you are a jerk,(just kidding). Anyway, if we look at you in those terms, I think (at least I will) we will have a more realistic expectation.
