You Be the Editor

Posted By: Randy GageFebruary 27, 2012

Hey guys, I need your help, if you’re willing.  My publisher is pushing for me to finalize my next book for them.  And naturally I have about 27 floating around in my cerebral cortex that I’d love to write. They’re looking for one.

Which is where YOU come in…

Would you be so kind to give me your honest feedback?  Put yourself in this picture:  You walk into your local bookstore.  You see the five book titles below displayed on a table.  Which one would you want to read first?

Since you’re familiar with my work, I value your opinion greatly and would love to learn what book would be the most exciting to you.  Since most book decisions are made by title and the dust jacket, I’m not explaining them in depth.  Just go by the title and sub-titles.

One more thing.  Please.

If you’re surrounded by negative people and this blog is your only connection to positivity, let’s keep this between us!  But if your social media circle is filled with others into self-development and personal growth – would you please use the share buttons to circulate this to your world?  The more feedback from people on the prosperity path, the better.

Okay ready?  Take a breath. You walk into the bookstore.  There’s a big table in the front and there are five books, all by me.  Which one would you want to read first, second and going on from there?

Would you reply in the comments below, listing your order of preference, with one being your first choice you would want to read first, two being your second choice, etc.  If there are some you wouldn’t care to read at all, then leave them off your list.

The choices are:

A) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor

B) Walk with the Ashim:  Join the Crusade for Peace and Prosperity

C) Safe is the New Risky…   Creating Wealth in the New Economy

D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood

E) Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe

So, you’re in charge:  please list the books in the order of your preference.  Then when I see you next, I owe you a hug!

  1. C. It's the only title without any negative word. If I am looking for a positive approach to life I am tired to hear feel or read words like crusade, victim or manifesto (the latter reminds me of politics and pointless utipic ideas)

  5. I'm with Tonya and don't feel drawn to any of them. Most of the titles seem to violate your message and the 'Safe is The New Risky' is already a tired and overused phrase. Let me muse on your behalf.

  7. I LOVE you and your books but none of these grab me. They seem trite and predictable. The only one to make me stop was the only one to make me smile and is probably the only one to get your butt kicked: D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood! Keep brainstorming.

  9. Randy,For your loving message, I think there are some titles that apply better than others, because they show, at least in a way, what the book will be about. Therefore, my vote is for A (first) and C (second).I really don´t like the titles B or E, since they are a bit "geek" or "nerd", and should draw people off them. I wouldn´t buy it, since I´m not a Star Trek fan.And there´s D, which I found that will get the most shocking reaction. I know part of your job is to offend people, in order to shake them, but I think that that title is unnecessarily offensive and, while ironic, doesn´t show how great you are. I honestly believe that the same message can be given using the choices listed in A and C.
Good luck, and CANT WAIT TO GET THE BOOK!!!

  11. I like the concept of Creating Wealth in a New Economy, but don't love the title. I LOVE the letting go of vitim-hood, but think the title would not be understood by many (since we seem to be a more secular society). The take the power back idea resonates the most with me - title could be stronger for attraction purposes.

    1. Take Your Power Back
    2.Safe is the New Risky
    3. Way of the Jedi

  13. Interesting titles...  I prefer - in order: D, C, A, E, then B....

Why D: edgy...gets people interested... people might wonder exactly what the content is... gives you a lot of room to work with for content....

I would also recommend a sequel to your last book and title it... "Making the NEXT Circle Work" how to teach leaders to develop other leaders and create duplication...

Thanks for all of the mentoring for our team!

  15. I love D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood , my second option is:
    A) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor

    4) Get off the cross- we need the wood!
    5) Safe is the new risky
    6) Way of the Jedi

  19. Hmmm for a guy that wrote the provocatively titled, "Why Your Dumb Sick & Broke....." ALL of these seem pretty 'vanilla' by comparison. I'd say back to the drawing board Randy, you (especially) can do so much better than these above titles, all sound pretty cliche or trite to me to be real honest mate! IF I had to pick one or 2 to go with I'd say C or E (That title is not so bad 'The Way Of The Jedi" as your are The Jedi Knight of Prosperity @Randy_Gage !)

  21. How about writing what you know about the power of making a core commitment. What a commitment truly is and how anyone can become greatness if the take a stand that doesn't allow retreating as an option.

  23. Randy, I love your work and the way your express yourself, yet none of the titles really pull me in. If the author's name wouldn't get me past these titles, these titles wouldn't move me. You could pull it off with your fans but would miss a lot of potential new fans. "Way of the Jedi," "Safe is the New Risky" and "From Victim to Victor" are over-used, and as someone said, trite. "Walk With the Ashim" would not be understood by many and "Crusade" doesn't do anything for me.

  25. Hey Randy,
I like the Way of the Jedi but change the subtitle and drop the "A Manifesto to" and have Restoring Peace & Prosperity to the Universe.  Had to look up what Ashim stood for. I do like that subtitle Join the Crusade for Peace and Prosperity.

You already told us that you went to therapy to change part of your negative programming from your up-bringing.  I would to know the negative programming, the process by which you change your mind besides therapy and how you you got the skills to be "succesful".  You didn't become "from dishwasher to a millionarie" in 1 year.  Tell us the struggle and what you have to learn in order to make $100,000 per month in your business.
Just be hones and lay it all in the line--that's a book that I would gladly buy.

  29. Love the titles! My order of preferences ... C, A, D, E, B

Regardless of the title, will love to see you include some ideas about overcoming addictions. I know its not the core of your work, but its an area where you have lots of ideas, and experiences, that you can share.

  31. I only like C.  Reason is it speaks to the greater audience.  The others people may not feel they need it or don't like the title and they won't buy it.  In other words, I am suggesting you walk the "title"   Safe is the new Risky----:):):)

  35. A) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor    Too common
    B) Walk with the Ashim:  Join the Crusade for Peace and Prosperity   Sounds like religion
    C) Safe is the New Risky…   Creating Wealth in the New Economy   Number One
    D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood   Creative but again too interpeted as religion
    E) Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe.   Star Wars dates you

  37. As for me, I'd buy D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood, the second option is A) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor. The other ones seemed to me too plain for you, Randy. About B and E: people who don't like or watch Star Trek or Star War won't be excited. And yes, I agree with JaredMaidenberg, you can do much better:)

  39. Randy,
My first choice would be D and then A.  Reason is I think most of us live around negative people and having these two books in our library and if we could possible get them to read them, might change their idea of what a victim is.  D is my first choice because of the religious undertone.

  51. "Take Your Power  Back! - Move from Victim to Victor" is the best title to attract the most people I believe as long as it is coupled with a really cool graphic.

Keep up the great work, Randy.  Looking forward to reading your next book.

    1- A.
    2- E
    3.- C
I wouldn't pick up D at all and I don't know what Ashim means, so would read B) because of it's sub title but the title is confusing.

  55. After thinking about it. I liked GET OFF THE CROSS, WE NEED THE WOOD. That captivated me the most. I mean, it got my curiousity more than the other two. TAKE YOUR POWER BACK does not seem original enough.

  57. You have so much to share, Randy, and I want this book to be a mega best-seller. That's why I'll share my truth: I don't see a title that  speaks to my heart. But the closest is A.

And I like the subtitle in c), but I don't like the title. (It's too safe.) How about " 99 to 1: Create Wealth in the New Economy and Join the 1%! " ?

  81. A) , C), D), B). E)  In that order due to what my "eye reads" as important, I do not go for the catchy titles, I go for the meat of the subject matter. The titles need to be in laymen terms I believe. Of course, you could hire me and then I would get paid for my opinion and expertise.   :+)  Bellalunaimages

  83. hi Randy ,  hope I can help

1-D.  I think this is a process,  we most know our weakness first, and learn  how  let them go. Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood

2-A.   Then  learn  how to move from Victim to Victor.Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor

3-C. Then when  you have a strong mind then  you are  ready to, Creating Wealth in the New Economy.  Safe is the New Risky…   Creating Wealth in the New Economy

4-E.  Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe, will let you konw  what the          Restore Peace and Prosperity to the Universe is all about.

5-B. Once you know what Manifesto is all about, then you are ready to Walk with the Ashim:  Join the         Crusade for Peace and Prosperity.

Whichever you choose, I know it will rock!

                                                                                                  Thanks Randy for everything!

  85. I love E, it might have to do with the fact I am a scifi fan. Ultimately both E & D made me laugh, the other's didn't conjure any strong emotions and B went right over my head.

  87. @"Boom!" Randy continues to rock... it didn't dawn on me that this staunch, successful gentleman was an Author too! Not that the cannot cut it, I just got wrapped up in his positive words and wisdom filled words of encouragement vi my emails.  Not only am I going to visit a bookstore to see these particular crafts; I plan on obtaining editorial review copies to write (follow up) written reviews about them! Keep it moving Randy!
We love-your work and overall presence!

  89. E - because you are a prosperity Jedi. You've learned how to use the force within the economy to be of benefit to you and those around you. And because the Jedi had a spiritual code of impeccability, and I've watched you over the years become a warrior for spiritual/material integration ... that's why I admire and respect you!

  99. #1-C  I really feel like this one applies to everyone because who doesn't want to create more wealth, no mater how much you have!!!???  I also like A but to tell you the truth, I don't ever feel like my power was taken away, I just feel like the situation stunk and I had to "redirect"!  When I read D, it made me curious but I didn't feel like the subtitle gave me enough information warrant picking it up.  With that said, I wish you super luck choosing the title!!  I know you will rock it!!!!

  118. Hey rocksta,

My preference in the following order:

    E) Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe
    >> title is ARRESTING! Grabs the attention of those really believing in the power of themselves as co-creators in the world, there is drama, it rides on a memes that is already established and powerful, plus it's SO YOU! Perfect.

    A) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor
    >> Next choice b/c it's powerful and personal, would be something that people would buy if they are looking for something for themselves. Straight to the point - but it is typical though.

    C) Safe Is The New Risky... Creating Wealth In The New Economy
    >> This would be very relevant in our world today, it would resonate with many people.

I don't really care for the other 2.

Can't wait for your new book! Love you lots!

  136. A. Take Your Power Back! would be my first and only choice..however I have read a psychology book from Victim to Victor so may want to use another subtitle like: Get Back On the Track..

  137. I don't mind the title...  If it sais "Randy Gage" on the cover, I'd read it...  But if you insist; my first choice would be "Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood"

  139. 1.) Take your power Back
    2.) Get off the Cross
3.) Safe is The new risky
    4.) Way of the Jedi
    5.) Walk with the Ashim
    From Daniel Whited

  140. 1.) Take your power Back

3.) Safe is The new risky
    4.) Way of the Jedi

  141. C) Safe is the New Risky…   Creating Wealth in the New Economy

    E) Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe
    D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood

  143. My number 1 choice is "Way of the Jedi"  and I feel like that and "Walk with the Ashim" can be combined into the same book.  But "Way of the Jedi" is much catchier. Peace and Prosperity is my favorite topic by you.

Number 2 is "Take Your Power Back!" I really like the topic moving from victim to victor.  I think this and "Get off the cross--we need the wood" could be combined into the same book also. "Get off the cross" is a funny title, but "Take your power back" is much more universal and less offensive to some people.

Number 3 is "Safe is the new risky" I feel like this is really important right now, and it shouldn't be in last place, but the other two topics just stood out to me more.

Those are my thoughts 🙂  Can't wait for it to come out!

  149. D.  I think it is catchy and will get people to take a peek.  That is where you get your opportunity.  Grab em with the title and win them with the content.  They won't know all the great things you have to say if they don't look.  Good luck!

  151. Definitely A) Take your Power Back
B, D & E have words that imply some cultural reference that I don't associate with, so I probably wouldn't even pick the book up to look inside.
As for C - cute but takes to long to get my mind around it

  163. C. Safe is the New Risky applies to the widest of audiences right now.  It's not safe in your job, It's not safe in your mortgage (or rental for tha matter!). Your retirement fund isn't safe. Food isn't safe, neither is the water. The current safe structure is what has personally driven us into the nwm business. People need to know that it's more of a risk to hide under the desk and hope that the boss doesn't target you for the next lay off than it is to venture into unknown territory like owning your own business. But it's equally risky to hide under the TV set instead of navigating that new territory in order to become successful.
    A. Much has been written on victimhood but it needs to be shouted to the ends of the earth until everyone "gets it"  I shared one of your articles on choosing to be a victim on my fb page and got immediate responses. I love your work and have all of the faith that you can create a nice balance between victimhood and lack of prosperity.
I agree with one of the other comments that the other titles are similar to one another and could be combined.  Thank you for the opportunity to comment Randy!

  167. E) Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe
-Title grabs me, w/a smile.  "Manifesto" is an appealling word - implies that you wll present some new ideas, with which I may grapple, agreeing or .... not.   I want to grapple, first of all, with the idea of "restoring" P & P .   Restoring????   Was it in the store before? Has it been taken off the shelf? How about going short & pithy:  "Way of the Jedi - A Manifesto for Peace & Prosperity"   That, I'd pick up.

    A) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor
-Like the topic,  but the title  doesn't  grab me...not very Original. Kinda, well, boring.  "Power" is one of those overworked words.
-I know you like the alliteration, but the word "Victor" doesn't ring my bells.  Strikes me as a Warrior-stage guy-word, you know, one of those testosterone-rush words.  Youse guys like the ol' testosterone rush of being the  !!Victor!!  but .... nah, being the "Victor" doesn't appeal to this lady.
When it comes to being a "Victor" ... I can take it or leave it, pref. leave it.  That might be because I know a guy named Victor....and wouldn't want to be him.  Too bad you can't say, "From Victim to Victoria"  (lol)

I ask myself, "If not a 'victor' - what will I be, post-victimhood?'
Myself responds, "I'll be myself, whole, complete, vitally alive."
     "Might you say 'Victorious' ?"
    "Perhaps...."

    D) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victomhood
-this title elicited a snort of laughter! but it is also mildly offensive, so I'd be a little ashamed of my laughter, and move on quickly to find something else to read.
-Do love the idea that Your New Book is going to help me leave Victimhood behind in the dust.

    B) Walk with the Ashim:  Join the Crusade for Peace and Prosperity
-Walk with whom?  Now I am all curious, I'd look at the book a little more closely just  to find out who or what the Ashim  is or are.
-"Crusade" is another iffy word - with connotations of militant Christianity, "kill the infidels" and the like.  I wouldn't use it.

    C) Safe is the New Risky…   Creating Wealth in the New Economy
-Dry.   I'd think "Yada-yada, economy...probably about politics, the ol' "big picture"... blah-de-blah., nope, don't wanna read that,"  and move on.
-This was one of your blog-topics that didn't excite me.  If it Did elicit Lots of Excited Participation as a blog topic, then maybe it IS a great book title.
PLEASE take all my feedback with several grains of salt, Randy.  I may not represent the mass market in this field.

    Could (A/D) & (B/C) be chapters within E?
If the concept of victimhood is explained - why not language it from different perspectives?  Likewise for the other sections.  I think there is more openness in the world to different perspectives and it's do-able.

  193. RANKING:

#1) Way of the Jedi:  A Manifesto to Restore Peace & Prosperity to the Universe - cool title, catchy, I'd open the book and check it out

#2) Safe is the New Risky…   Creating Wealth in the New Economy - I think people realise there needs to be a change in approach - sounds interesting

#3) Walk with the Ashim:  Join the Crusade for Peace and Prosperity - offhand I'm not sure who Ashim is... if people don't have familiarity with something in the title, they're generally less likely to explore it, so the market you attract becomes more limited

#4) Take Your Power Back!  Move from Victim to Victor - again, you're limiting your market to those people that relate to themselves as powerless victims - whilst these are the people you may wish to contribute to, they are often not self-aware enough to admit their situation (hence why they're there) - and are least likely to be caught reading a book with this title in a public place LOL - they may even be confronted to buy it at the counter in a bookstore.

#5) Get Off the Cross – We Need the Wood!  Letting Go of Victim-Hood - whilst I get your hard-hitting straight talking approach is powerful and effective when public speaking, and even in the depth of an article or book, if you want to attract people's curiosity, this is probably the least flattering title.  Some religious people may take umbrage to a title like this.  Whilst I personally think that anybody going through the trouble of being offended by this well-meaning title has bigger issues in life, again - you want to balance being provocative/piquing curiosity with turning people away.  Also, whilst I guess your market is America, it might be useful to bear in mind that the appeal will be even less in markets with more diversified spiritual traditions than the USA.

Anyhow, I hope this helps your quest.
    BIG HUGGS in advance,
    Gabriel

    1. PS - I meant to add that using the word Crusade in title I've listed as #3 is probably again bad form, similar to #5... if you want to appeal to a wider market than the US Christian market...  Just thinking beyond into the future if you want to publish internationally 🙂
