Writing for Prosperity…

Posted By: Randy GageOctober 22, 2019

If you’re a successful entrepreneur or a valued employee on the promotion track, let me suggest what a lot of your time is spent doing: Writing.

You write important text messages, compelling emails, and powerful slide decks, reports, or executive summaries.  It’s why I stated in the last post that persuasive writing is one of the two most lucrative skillsets you can develop for success.

Even in the age of text lingo, slang, Spanglish and emojis, check that, especially in the age of text lingo, slang, Spanglish and emojis – being able to write well is one of the surest ways to advance your prosperity.  Here’s the biggest reason, and probably one you’re not aware of…

To learn to write well, you have to improve your cognitive abilities and critical thinking.

Over the years I’ve experimented with a lot of dictation software, in the hopes of being able to write my books and blogs easier.  Each time I’ve abandoned the effort, because the initial draft required such extensive rewriting in the editing process to be readable.  There were so many “ums,” “you knows,” and disjointed ramblings, it was quicker to just write it again.

The process of stringing sentences into coherent paragraphs and threading coherent paragraphs into lucid copy progression requires you to practice linear thinking – rational thought.  It also forces you to practice critical thinking – which might be the most helpful talent to have, to manifest prosperity in your career and life.

Writing literally makes you smarter.

You don’t have to be a blogger or author to benefit from writing better.  Virtually every job in the for-profit and non-profit arenas benefits from having someone who can make their case with the printed word.  And if you learn copywriting, you have a super power.

How are you in this area?  Just blogging or journaling will produce powerful results for you.  Are you taking any continuing education writing courses at your local university or attending any writers’ conferences?  Any other things you do to master writing better?  Please share below.  And in the next post, we’ll look at the second of the two lucrative skillsets: public speaking.

Peace,

- RG

P.S. To those of you who were intrigued by the series of posts I did on whether religion is evil, Chris Widener joined me on the current podcast to discuss the topic.  You can listen to it here.

  1. I write a food and wine blog and am quite proud of it, lots of good content there but a few tips: keep your post short, people got the attention span of a knat these days, so don't go on and on.. my web gal some times tells me to write more and I say no, people don't want to read reams of stuff, keep it interesting, I ask chefs and wine guys any brush with celebrity because it's fun and what people like to read, be of value, I ask chefs and wine guys what makes a great restaurant or winery because it gives insight in how to be successful in the biz... cheers,
