Why Do You Procrastinate?

Posted By: Randy GageDecember 12, 2018

We all get busy and procrastinate on some things, even if it is just once in a while.  And some people procrastinate a lot.  Most of those people think things “happen to them.”  They give no thought into what they might be doing to create that reality.  Because of course, taking no action, is always an action in and of itself.

I have a friend who insisted he was committed to getting wealthy, so he joined one of my businesses.  We held a weekly business briefing every Wednesday.  The first week, he had to work late, so he missed it.  The second week his boss was riding with him so he couldn’t get there in time.  The next week he said a shelf fell over and he cut his hand and needed stitches.  You get the picture.

He never made one in 20 weeks.  Never bothered to contact him again, but you can bet he had a great excuse for every week.

But what’s the real reason he didn’t show up?

He doesn’t really want to become wealthy, because that would require letting go of victim-hood.  But don’t expect him to believe that.  He believes in the symptoms, instead of looking at the disease.

So what about you?

Are there certain things or areas in your life you procrastinate on frequently?  It’s not because you are “too busy.”  We always find time for the things we really want to do.  So it’s worth a little thought.

What do you usually procrastinate about doing?  And what’s the real reason?

  1. The real reason is fear. Fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of showing incompetence. Finally the greatest fear of all, fear of proving yourself right.
