Who You Become

Posted By: Randy GageMay 22, 2012

A lot of people believe their future is determined by what has happened to them in their past.   For them that is true, because they are choosing to live in victim-hood.  But your past doesn't have to determine your future unless you let it.

Likewise, who you will become isn't determined by what’s happening to you right now either…

You may have just won $50 million in the lotto, or you could have just received a negative medical diagnosis.  Either one is an external influence that can’t alter your character unless you allow it to.

So what really sculpts you into who you become?

How you respond to what happens to you.  The perspective you view it from and the decisions you make about it.    And the really good news is that you get to decide that.

Ain’t it great!

  1. Randy, it is a person's belief system.  Their beliefs about self, the world, faith determine their reaction to events and finally their success.

  3. That is great, we get to live a life empowered by the knowledge that we can alter any and all of our circumstances.

  5. I know i stay on this but i speak to a lot of of folks who "fight the system" and I want them to understand prosperity consciousness. So do you think it is appropriate to "speak truth to power" or should one just become rich and  and ignore injustice?

  7. Randy, I took a break from facebook.  So, I wanted to tell you here how much I loved your post about emotions.  So right on.  I didn't really get that one until I became a Mom.  I realized once Nick came that some of what I had learned in therapy, I only grasped intellectually, but not with my emotions.  Until there is that connection between emotion and wisdom the behavior doesn't change.  At least that is what I found.

  9. You are who you choose to be, if you allow only good things happen to you to feel happy you are losing the biggest gift God has given us...I know for me when my husband was giving 3 to 6 month to live do to cancer, I thought my world fell apart but it didn't  it gave to the push we needed to fight this. With all the bad that happen we are now celebrating 5 years of survival now and have been blessed with so many things now...

i agree with you, Randy, in theory. However, i also believe that if a tree received poisonous nutrition for the first 18 years that it was planted and grew, it will forever leave an effect on the tree. So too humans. Sure, we can react differently and use behavioral methods to change our thinking but doesn't some part of our deep core stay with the original plantation? Namely, the original crap that we grew up with?
    Namely, binging at 1 am?

    1. There is no doubt that our family of origin and environment when we grew up has a huge affect on us.  But it doesn't have to.  And remember this:  Your body is regenerating new cells every day, and over the course of two years, replaces every single cell in your body.  So you have the opportunity to make yourself over at any time.  -RG
