When This Is All Over…

Posted By: Randy GageApril 7, 2020

The last three weeks have been spent in self-isolation due to the coronavirus.  Looking at the models, it appears I’ll be hunkered down for at least four weeks more.  Like a lot of you, there are many things I desperately miss: dinner out with friends, playing softball, and writing at my regular table in my favorite neighborhood diner.  But when this began, the plan was to approach the experience as though the opportunity arose to study at a Shaolin Temple or spend time in a cabin at Walden Pond. (Alone time = Thoreau time.)  Those goals led to others which were developed along the way.    For anyone who is  interested, here's what they are...

When This Is All Over…I hope to be wiser than when I began.  This means curating my learning, practicing thinking time, and cracking open a lot of great books.

When This Is All Over… I want to weigh less than I did when I began.  It could only be one pound less; I hope it is seven pounds less.  But even if it's only one ounce less, it is a win.

When This Is All Over…the sources of income that were reduced, disappeared, or threatened, need to be replaced with more “pandemic proof” alternatives.

When This Is All Over…I want to adapt to change better.  Routines are great, and good habits are always good habits.  But being comfortable with ambiguity and more open to change are fine traits as well.

When This Is All Over…I’m going to hit the first pitch I see a very, very, very, long way…

When This Is All Over…I desire to be more emotionally mature.  When people say things like, “See it was all an overreaction.  It’s really was just like the flu,” I’m hoping I don’t respond by asking them if they’ve recently had a lobotomy.  Hopefully, I’ll simply smile and say, “Isn’t it great.”  When some brainwashed Sean Hannity viewer says, “Thanks to President Trump’s quick actions and decisive leadership, we prevented at least two million more people from dying,” I’m hoping I don’t respond by asking them if they really are that fucking stupid.  Hopefully, I’ll simply smile and say, “Isn’t it great.”

When This Is All Over…on the first night possible, I want to treat my best friends to a leisurely dinner at Lario’s on the Beach.

When This Is All Over… quiero hablar mejor Español et parle aussi mieux le français que lorsque je suis arrivé.

When This Is All Over…I’m going back to Key West, Prague, Paris, Oslo, Hawaii, Sydney, and Thailand.  And going to discover some beautiful new places as well.

When This Is All Over…I hope the people closest to me who needed assistance during the crisis will remember they were able to count on me.  The drivers and workers who provided necessities and the people who needed an encouraging word, a paycheck to stay home, or some help with groceries.

When This Is All Over…my home survival kit for next time needs to be better prepared than it was this time around.

When This Is All Over…I’ll remember those we lost, let the memories of them be a blessing, and honor their lives.  I pledge to never become a member of any political party again.  To perform my responsibilities as a citizen as the sacred duty they are.  I will study the issues, vet the candidates, and support, volunteer and vote for the ones I believe in.  This means standing for term limits, eliminating dark money, balancing budgets, access to health care, equal opportunity, and better preparation for crisis situations.

When This Is All Over…I want to consume less things that are harmful or toxic to me.  Whether that is food, entertainment, news, or people.

When This Is All Over…I must be even more grateful: Celebrate every sunrise, savor every sunset, and be more in the moment with loved ones.  Increased appreciation not just for the heroic first responders, but also those delivery drivers, grocery store employees and the multitudes of other who keep our society running, even in dark times. The goal is to learn from the past, intend the future, but always celebrate the present.

That’s what I plan to do, have, and become when this is all over.  What about you?

Peace,

- RG

  1. Thank you Randy. This really helped. Wishing you a safe peaceful happy day. Sandi Greenberg

  2. I will join you in all of those things Randy. Just spoke to my neighbor who bought your desk and she has been wonderful to me. I have found kindness in places I didn't even know were there. I know I am so fortunate for the people in my life who care for me and go the extra mile.

  3. This is a great list. I, too, hope to be able to exhibit self control when be confronted by the "spin" that will inevitably be put in place to cover profound deficiencies. And yes, this enforced seclusion and the losses we will experience and the new realities we will have to face will hopefully change us in sober ways but also inspiring ways. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you Randy for steering our minds towards positivity - this will surely come to pass and this is all over........... Our imagination is stretched beyond the present isolation, confusion and uncertainty.
Yes when this is all over I would have discovered a better me!!!

  4. Thank you so much for this Randy! One thing I will do Iis NOT wait for there to be a world pandemic to reach out to friends and family that I've not spoken to in a long time.

  5. When this is all over, I choose to be fully immersed in new fun, stimulating income sources in the digital world, and UNlearn the old linear thinking. Onwards and UPwards again.

  6. “See it was all an overreaction. It’s really was just like the flu,”

“Thanks to President Trump’s quick actions and decisive leadership, we prevented at least two million more people from dying,”

    These are contradicting.

Currently, there is NOTHING supports the claim that this is far more deadly than the regular flu. It supports the claim that this is spreading way faster than the regular flu.

This is because you don't have any numbers about how many people infected. You have only registered infections, which effectively worth literally nothing. What if it is already infected billions of people, and 80,000 people died so far?

Here is an other interesting theory: they say that the reason why some people asymptomatic is because they have already developed immunity, because the virus matches to some similar agents.

"The actual data shows that with comorbidities that the actual infection rate is principally limited to persons whose immune system has failed to retain immunity after infection by a similar agent. This failure is just a typical rate over time etc. No particular significance. It isn’t like influenza varieties that often infect high percentages of the population. The numbers are showing a peak out in the very low 1% to 2% of total population level or below." - Paul Noel, scientist.

As for Trump, yeah. That bastard is a democratic socialist, and nothing else.

The other thing is that what stops the virus is your immune system. Now if you are in panic state, your immune system's efficiency decreased by about 70%. Yet, the media keeps spreading panic faster than the light of speed.

"You have a media following every step and every second what is going on with every patient with every single death. Can you imagine what would have happened if 60 million deaths that happen every year in this planet, we had a meter counting them one by one, and having stories written for each one of them? It would be horrible! I mean we have gone into a complete panic state, measuring so far a sizable number of deaths, but nothing, nothing close to the total cumulative mortality that we see both in this country and around this world.” -Dr. John Ioannidis.

I highly suggest you to watch his video "Perspectives on the Pandemic | Dr John Ioannidis of Stanford University | Episode 1" on youtube.

I really think this is an exaggeration, and you can crucify me later for it. Not going to happen. Except of course if some agenda keeps cooking the books about the statistics. I believe the politicians at this point would massacre any amount of innocent people to claim that they are died by corona.

But one thing is for sure: if we don't recover the economy, and keep doing the things the way we do (lockdown), it is not millions, but BILLIONS going to die on the long-term. Depression, anxiety, hunger games, crimes, heart-failures, pollution, whatever you like. That is an other pandemic called POVERTY, and only your mind can act as an immune system against it.

    1. Yes the two example statements I used are contradictory. Because there is more than one way to be stupid. As for the theories you share suggesting than COVID-19 being the same as the flu, isn't it great.

      1. I guess you wanted to use other expression than "isn’t it great".

  7. When This Is All Over…I hope to be wiser than when I began. Exactly! Pretty simple things to me; staying consistent, change your environment, change the people in your circle, change the Information you’re listening to, change your mindset. What If you had access to a skillset that could change your life forever?

  8. Just finished Mad Genius. Perhaps because I'm staying at home during a pandemic during Lent, a lot of things are running through my mind. I absolutely understand why anyone might have a problem with organized religion. We're a bunch of hypocrites. That's sort of the point. If you gotta forgive people all the time, you need the practice on a regular basis.

But it struck me that Jesus is pretty much the definition of Mad Genius. He didn't need to be baptized, but did it anyway. Wasn't supposed to eat dinner with tax collectors; did it anyway. Wasn't supposed to touch lepers, talk to Samaritans or women. Pick grain for breakfast or heal blind men on the Sabbath. Or stop Pharisees from stoning a woman caught in the act. Some people thought he was going to be a military leader, overthrow the Romans and start a new kingdom. He had a totally different idea of the kingdom he wanted to start. He made the politicians of his day so mad at him, they found a way to kill him. But just like Obi-Wan, he became more powerful than he could possibly imagine. His followers laid down their own lives for him.

I'm just saying....Thanks for the good read. Keeps me getting after it.

  9. Exactly Randy. The goal is to learn from the past, intend the future, but always celebrate the present.Quarantine can’t hold us back! It’s not the time for entertainment it’s time for education. @millionaire_mastermindacademy

  10. Beautifully said/written. {goose bumps} Thank you for sharing, so eloquently, your insight and projections. That life is certainly a life worth living in to. Stay well.

    1. Thank you . I have become pandemic proof, thanks to your many years of being my mentor. I most likely had the virus in December and survived. Being tested to confirm. My goal has always been to help others first. I learned I can't continue that mission if I died. So I chose to live. I also remembered you saying to me, you can't save the world unless you save yourself first financially. I admit , I didn't take your advice then. I let my heart rule my Life. It took 8 years and losing all I had twice to finally understand. I wouldn't be where I am today without you.
