What Your Negative Expectations Do to You

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 7, 2009

In yesterday’s post we talked about how your expectations create your outcomes.  But what about the dark side of the force?

Because the same thing applies to negative expectations as well.  People who expect bad things to happen are usually proven right as well.  So how does this work?

Do they create a vision that they gravitate to?  Do they send out negative energy that attracts like energy?  Does their underlying belief blind them to positive opportunities that may come along?  Do they create an expectation in the astral plane that is picked up by Babaji, the Deathless Maha Avatar in a holy cave in the Himalayan Mountains of India?

I don’t know.  But I do know that you attract what you think about most.  And people that expect bad things to happen seem to be rewarded with a steady stream of dram, trauma, and catastrophe.  Which leads us to the usual question:  What’s the lesson in this for you?

  1. The lesson in your post is this - whatever vision you create for yourself, whether you want it or not, is what you will get. You get what you think about most.

  2. Hi Randy;

Excellent post, for me it challenges me to become more aware of my habitual, thoughts and what I'm creating. I'm challenged to take a look at my present reality, and ask how did I create this, and what can I alter in my thinking to better align myself with what I do want.

  3. This says it best:

"Throughout all history, the great wise men and teachers,
philosophers, and prophets have disagreed with one another
on many different things. It is only on this one point that
they are in complete and unanimous agreement. - We become
    what we think about."
    -Earl Nightingale

  4. Cancel-Cancel-Cancel!
When I catch myself having a negative thought, I immediately think CANCEL and restate the thought with the positive outcome I desire (i.e. I'm happy, healthy and prosperous!). It's a huge leap to take ownership of the thoughts you think.

Thanks for all you do Randy. You are making a difference.

  5. We each have the opportunity to make choices about our focus. By reinforcing a positive vision, we pave the way for prosperity and possibility.

    Thanks for the reminder!

    Best,
    M.

  6. Hay Randy, you make a difference to me. Life has been tough luck for me, the Law of Attraction works dose not discriminate! Create your life everyone, what we focus on grows, good or bad!!!

  7. The lesson for me brings me back to a time when I was a young boy:

Over the years since I was a young boy I have always had negative thoughts, battling positive thoughts. Growing up in my unique environment it was no mystery why the negative thoughts were to prevalent.

As I grew I began to notice a strange phenomenon, my negative thoughts could manifest much more quickly and easily than my positive thoughts.

Every night without fail right before I sleep, I would pray with all my heart and soul for a very specific positive thing to happen for me and my brother. It seemed like days turned into weeks, weeks, into months before one good thing would happen and years of praying before the specific thing happened. Not the case with my negative thoughts, they seemed to be so powerful that one negative thought could yield almost an immediate manifestation.

I learned early in life, before I was 11 years old to guard my thoughts very carefully and to fill my mind with positive thoughts as much as possible, because even the negative thoughts had way more energy and produced almost immediate and dramatic results.

As a college student, one day while sitting in a psychology class the professor began talking about the power of thoughts and how your thoughts can control your outcomes. The professor was talking as if this was a new train of thought, and I was thinking in the back of my mind, “no shit; where’s the news in that Einstein?” I looked around the room and noticed the looks on the other student’s faces, they seemed as thought this was the first time this had ever been proposed to them.

In the discussion with my friends after class they confirmed what I saw, some did not believe the professor, they insisted thoughts cannot control anything, and dismissed the idea altogether.

Very much interested in this idea I began to study to learn more about this power of thought.

Studies seem to have proven that there is a quantifiable power to our thoughts, from a simple passing thought, to a powerful energized thought filled with powerful emotional content.

It has been discovered that one negative thought outweighs a positive thought 100 to 1, meaning it will take on average 100 positive thoughts to negate a single negative thought; that’s just to bring the thought bank to a balance of zero again.

So naturally I began to wonder why simple affirmations don’t always work with the really negative thoughts, specifically for me, when a negative thought can almost instantly yield a dramatic and immediate result.

The problem was in the power given the thought. Affirmations are great and offer so many benefits; affirmations are an excellent place to start. For me simple affirmations without energy are more like words in white type face, on a white page. I know the words are there because I typed them, but I cannot see them, therefore they carry very little energy, or emotional content.

I have read that it is suggested we have 65,000 thoughts a day, and if that is true, lets say just over half of those thoughts are of a negative nature, (40,000) not taking into account the energy given those thoughts, the average person would need 4,000,000 positive thoughts just to negate those 40,000 negative thoughts. If one were to average two positive thoughts per second, it would take over a month of continuous second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour of positive thoughts just to negate the negative thoughts of just one day!

Given that of the 65,000 thoughts one would have in a day most of them are the same thoughts they had yesterday, last week, last month and in some cases the same thoughts they have been having for years. There is the secret as to why some people cannot break out of the negative habits they experience and DO NOT MANIFEST A NEW REALITY.

For me, being a student of success I needed a way to not only negate negative thoughts quickly, I needed a way to overpower them quickly and effectively. I needed a way to turn that energy into a positive force in my life otherwise I knew there was no way I could become successful and live the life I wanted.

That journey has lead me to study many disciplines including physics, (not the quasi ‘quantum physics’ talked about in the secret law of attraction) and some of best resources I have studied are of course Randy’s products and prosperity teachings.

  8. This is stellar. I found this page because I was in a panic listening to my negative-leaning husband talking to his chronically negative father on the phone about my car and how "it's 3 years old now, so if something's going to go wrong, I guess I'll start expecting it to happen." (his father is ALWAYS having car problems... betcha can't guess why)

How dare they talk about my baby like that! Pissed me off, so I was seeking validation and like-mindedness. Found it here. Thank you!
