What Kind of Vision Do You Have?

Posted By: Randy GageMay 6, 2010

It’s amazing how many people think they don’t have a vision.  I’ve had people tell me just that dozens of times at seminars and workshops.  Most of those people you find in the video stores on Friday nights would probably admit that they have no vision for themselves.

They would be wrong.

Everybody has a vision.  Most of the herd has a pretty neutral vision.  They don’t expect too much out of life, and that’s what they manifest – most of their goals are small and parochial.  They want to get through the day, get to Friday, or make it to retirement without getting laid off.

This is their vision.  Life just is.  It’s something that happens to you, and if you lay low and stay out of trouble, you’ll make it to the end without more than your share of grief.

The second group are people with a negative vision.  They actually expect bad things to happen.

So of course they do.

They revel in victim-hood, and never miss an opportunity to regale you with stories of their latest lay-off, medical condition, or horrific traffic accident.  They subscribe to the “life’s a bitch and then you die” philosophy.

So it is, and so they do.

Now they would also tell you that they don’t really have a vision, but they do.

Then of course, there is group three – the one you are in.  People working on self-development, who expect good things to happen, and have a positive vision of their future.

Question, though…

Do you ever find yourself slipping back to group one or two?  And if so, what causes it?  Give it some thought and next post we’ll talk more about the power of vision.

P.S. I head out this afternoon on another around the world tour.  Next stop, Stockholm.  I’ll check in from there.

  1. Hey Randy, thanks for all you do!

Yes, I do fall back into one or the other category when I am overwhelmed with the messages of either! I find myself immersed in other peoples' stuff, and it short circuits my intent. Being a people person who wants to help individuals realize their full potential (if they are ready) opens up the other door as well. Any suggestions, strategies that can help keep that at bay? I try to counteract with positive messages, but after awhile, I find my old 'stuff' creeping back to steal my good vision and replace it with bad.

This happens mostly with family members.....I am able to control it with other outside influences, I find the challenge comes into play with close family members.

  2. YES, the fall back is there, just awating for you to disconnect from your power, your vision, your dream, i guess is our Old Ego trying to come back and survive our awakening, when I get depress and fall back I noticed that all the memories of bad experiencies come in flashes in seconds and minutes.what do I do when this start to happen, well I call an spiritual friend, I play Randy's CD's , I go into you tube and look for Tolle's videos, It is a matter of living in joy again or go down to hell and burn in a lake of the victime hood..
Thanks Randy for asking that questions.....

  3. Let's be careful about throwing the word "vision" around as though we all have the same definition. In my view it's greater than all the things we might paste on a "Vision Board." (My 57 Belair convertible, 16 hand palomino, writing a best seller, etc.) In my view it's the grand WHY of your life and equates to knowing your destiny. Knowing what things you want and knowing your destiny are quite different.

For you city slickers it's known in quantum physics as Curly's Law. It's discovering your "One Thing." When individuals (and corporations) discover their One Thing they are released to find as many ways as they can to fulfill that One Thing. That's when life gets really exciting.

So how do you know your One Thing? Your Destiny begins to call you from the moment of conception and likely before that. EVERYTHING you experience points you there. Destiny's loudest voice is expressed through what makes you restless about life on this planet. Unfortunately we're pathetic at listening to and interpreting our call. M. Scott Peck suggests that 95% of us will live, work and die without once knowing why we're here. And that is the ultimate sin!

Generally One Things come in two types: 1) you are driven to 'correct' something about this world we're in like giant oil spills, student apathy, stupid government, lack-thinking or whatever; and/or 2) to 'create' something like music, art or a light that cures cancer. In some cases we correct and create at the same time.

The question I constantly ask myself is "How am I making this world a better place?" Some days I haven't done a darn thing. But every once in a while it is thrilling to know you're making a difference.

  4. Randy,

I fall back into those categories when the voice of fear creeps in. The silent voice of "what if...???" It is when I stop and say over and over again "God is prospering me now" and say it until I believe it, that my deep down thoughts change.

    Have a great trip.

    Jim

  5. Dear Randy:
Some times when things don´t go as you wish, as you work for, simply planned goals don´t result as expected, my spirit goes down, never the less I go on but is difficult.

  6. Sometimes I slip... not into a full on #1 mentality, but just starting to compromise. Then I remember the phrase...... GO BIG OR GO HOME!

  7. i like the positive vision so much.. the world reality is just one.. it only depend on how do you look on it..

  8. Hi!

Spending too much time around people from gruop 1 or 2 would probably increase the chances of me slipping back into old thinking patterns.... But, today, it´s funny - I sort of seem to attract people into my "group 3"-way of presenting myself. I make it my challenge through the day to stay clear from negative, thoughtless chatter - and try to present the alternative "group 3"-way of thinking instead. And what do you know, people seem to like it...

And Mr Gage, welcome to beautiful Stockholm - looking forward to take part of some excellent leadership training this weekend!

    All the best!

    /Alex

  9. This is an awesome post...

To answer your question I'm in group 3 and I think there is always a gravity the pulls you back the other way especially being surrounded by a society that I believe "just is".

    Jarmar.................

  10. I often feel that when I sleep and dream - it's another me with other feelings, emotions, fears, experiences.
So when I wake up I have to tune up myself for a more positive and logical vision set. ))

  11. I love having a quick look to see if Ian Percy has posted a comment - because he takes it to the next level. This one takes me right up to what Beck and Cowan would call our Holistic Organism - Global View vMeme - haven't yet found a better model than Spiral Dynamics. It's beyond the cars and clothes - which are delicious - and out into space, looking back.
It's about personal fulfilment too. Young Brendan Buchard simplifies a quote from Gautama Buddha, to "did I love openly - did I live fully - did I matter".
I'm just asking "what does it look like when I be - do - have - all that I am impossibly able to" so that I can reach beyond what I can even believe and play with im-possibilities.
    Love life.

  12. Hi, Randy,

Another interesting post. I’m in the Third group. I don’t seem to fit the first group. I always seem to have been a challenger, and when anything good came my way, I always tended to grab it to make a change for the better..well.. at least when I was younger. One example was that I never stayed with one job longer than two to three years, always ready for another challenge, as I look back now. Some friends who always stayed with one job for a very long time – over a decade surprisingly enough… gave me a negative remark about my moves. 🙂

As with the group 2 type, my instinct or nature is just incapable to revel in victim-hood..well.. for not too long anyway. It may sound sort of comical to say so, but it is true.. I will either try my best to confront with what forces me to be in the victim-hood state to help solve whatever is there that needs to be solved, or will othrwise get out of such a condition, if no valuable lesson/hope is seen in such victim-hood. I don’t seem to be able to live both in the light (positive) and the darkness (negative) at the same time.

However, in terms of the Third category in which many of us are in, including me definitely, I must admit though that sometimes I’m not always quite sure if a vision I have and am striving to reach has always something to do with my attempt to focus on belief/growing in faith for achieving such goals/visions … or it’s been simply because I tend to be naturally optimistic …perhaps by birth, as people often say and joke about me. Because I know there is a sovereign loving God that truly exists in the unseen spiritual realm that our physical eyes cannot see, I want to know more of God, learning to grow in my spirituality everyday which as a result would also bring the manifestation of the vision, however, when I come down to my own human self/level, I am an absolutely carefree, funny, optimistic human being… so I sometimes get lost in that, meaning that whether my moving forward with the vision/faith that I have is due to my growing faith/spiritual development or simply because I am naturally carefree and optimistic about many things including the goals/vision for the future. lol Or… if God had given me this nature ..perhaps his having created such optimism in me by birth is to help support my faith continually… then, it is still a part of the positive seed/vision that will bring forth its manifestation in the future … at the right set time. I wish I could express what I want to say in English that sounds more naturally flowing with correct words. Thank you for letting me be part of this Randyland community and let me share my thought. Have a safe and fantastic time in Stockholm. Thank you for all you do, Randy. I’m sure people will all love you there as we do here. love and hugs:: -saachi

  13. Ian,

    I am am marketing/management professional.

Does that 'One Thing' concept equates to 'Core Competency' that corporations so desperately struggle to define all the time?
    Hersh

  14. I have a vision and use it daily as a form of relaxation or centering.

It falls if I share it with others... those that are filled with the other two visions, because their ideas of how to get there clash with my way. There way is to get the external manifestations of the vision through working hard, fighting for it, selling your soul, wrecking your health. My way is to work on personal growth so that who I am creates it naturally. Like the tree creates the fruit, the light creates the radiance. There's a difference. Both ways acheive but only one way is secure in achievment because it is a reflection of deeper values and the best of who you are, the other is just obtaining something that measures sucess only if you have it not in obtaining it becuase the way you obtained it wasn't worth honoring.

Meeting up with others who also have big dreams is great!

  15. Its hard at times to maintain your mindset...sometimes things happen to me, like lets say I check my bank account and its in the negative, or something I don't like happens...there's this subconscious thing for me, to allow my outside circumstances, to dictate my inner state...
I then take control consciously, and speak words of prosperity to myself, and though I might not get tingly goose bumpy feelings....they override the negative stuff....and I'm sure it shows my subconscious that I'm serious....I mean, cm on how many people choose to speak in terms of what they want, when they are smack in the middle of what they don't want? Group 3 baby!!

  16. Hi Randy.I start to create visions, but over the last years they were the ones of the herd.Except sometimes...and one of that times happened to me some days ago. I have very little money at the moment, but dreaming anyway about making my home nicer.I was thinking about a special furniture for my sons room. Without planning it, we went to an "old market" the other day that the church have and people working there as volountars.I walked around watching the things, and suddenly I walked straight to exactly that furniture I had thought about!Looking completely new.I here had the change to get it at 1/10 of the price in stores. But as I have no car I would have to pay the double than the cost and I didn´t have that amount with me so I said something to the man working there like "can I book this one"?He asked why I couldn´t buy it right then and I told him why and he said-I drive it home for you...And I realised that this have happened to me with small things MANY times in my life, always in a special kind of way where I have NO IDEA it is going to happen before it happens, the only thing I have is a VISION of that thing I want.So once and for all I know today, that if these small wishes always come true, why not the BIG visions? They are taking place in my life from now.And they are so big I am getting chills thinking about them.THANKS FOR YOUR BLOG see you soon!

  17. Thank you Randy for the reminder!
It's good to realize that my mind have got to a point, when ever a thought from the first or second group mindset pops up - I'm immediately aware of it... it has taken some time to work on stopping this chatter, but I'm getting there.
It's interesting how quiet it has become inside my head, it's like I'm looking out trough my eyes from this quiet point in the center of my head... and nowadays automatically my perception seems to shift to that point and so I disengage and take a look...
My visions are nothing less than miracles, well at least that's how it would look to an 'untrained' eye - but they are reality for me or for anybody in the group three actually.
It's alchemy we are all engaging with in this third group, and what a pleasure it is to behold this world from that standpoint... even when there are shorter or longer periods when we slip back, once been there, there is no way back...
    Thanks for sharing your visions!

  18. i've just graduated and currently interning at a small jewellery firm for the next few months.

my vision is to be incredibly wealthy yet i have zero idea how to get there... i am interested in many things, including joining a bank or starting own business... any advice, fellow forumers? 🙂

  19. I've been level 2 most of the time. The few times I reached level 3 were brief and I enjoyed some level of success. Then I experienced some setbacks and dropped to level 2, and since then have stayed here most of the time. And my life has been like a yoyo. To succeed in life I know I need to keep my visions on bigger and grander things.
I know if I truly want to be successful in life, I must have not only group 3 visions but I also need to mix more with people in this category to sort of 'catch' the right spirit. People like you RG. Thanks a lot for the privilege of being able to learn from you and from your fans in this blog. And I intend to climb up to group 3 and stay there for the rest of my life.

  20. Randy, thankfully vision is one thing that I was born with. I see what most don't and never will. I have literally owned a piece of property for one hour and cleared $18,000 because I had vision and sold that vision to the buyer.

  21. My autonomic thoughts are basically worrying or wonderinging . Momentary thoughts that colourise the world are based on ideas and visions.

Falling downs or disappointment are related to false expectations .
False expectations are results of co-mingled reality.

Am I unique on this or do anyone agree ?

  22. hey..my frind had a vision last night about me getting stabbed and she was crying what is that..im scared wen she told me
