What Kind of Obsessions Do You Have?

Posted By: Randy GageMay 19, 2010

In yesterday’s post I stated that in order to have a great deal of success with something, you have to have an obsession for it.  Did that sound drastic to you?

A lot of people think obsessions are bad and should be avoided at all costs.  I don’t agree.   Everyone has obsessions.

The difference between people with empty lives versus people with successful, meaningful ones, is simply the things they choose to be obsessive about.

Or you could write it this way:

Successful people have positive obsessions.  Failures have negative obsessions.   Which ones do you have?

P.S. I am changing planes in Hong Kong.  Praying for peace in Bangkok.  Please hold a positive vision.

  1. Hi Randy, I could not agree more with this post. Everyone is needs a healthy and positive obsession. It is the very key for living life on your own terms, having success, waking up with motivation each day and being at peace.

  2. I'm hooked on worship through music, personal development - including the fellowship that challenges me, and tech news. I need challenges in life in the areas of my obsession to instigate further exploration in these areas. Obsessions that move us on into our greatness are a good thing.

I suppose coffee also makes the obsession list. I love trying new coffees from various regions, getting into grinding and brewing options - but keep myself just shy of being an addict for this.

  3. Totally agree - positive obsessions give meaning to life! And will give you specialist knowledge in whatever you´re obsessed about... even though it might be Westlife´s-what-about-now, keeping your nails spottless... hm, not that I would ever obsess about those things...... or, ok - a bit obsessed. But, those little obsessions mixed with obsessions like my yoga routine, always being on time at work and following through agreements.... makes a good mix 🙂

  4. Mr.Randy

Thank you for you best wishes for our Thailand.
You know? I don't want to see any news right now, because I don't want to receive any negetive. So I try to stay outdoor and doing my assignments for my goals.

In this kind of time, I'll do my best to stay on my positive vision.

  5. Developing an obsession for what you want to achieve is familiar to those of you who has read "Think and Grow rich" by Napoleon Hill. He writes about it in the beginning of the book in the chapter about "Desire". You need to develop a strong desire that turns into an obsession to get the right mindset for your goal. Thanks for the reminder RG! / Linda

  6. Very well put. Unfortunately, negative obessions are ususally bad habits such as drugs, sex, food, government dependance etc. and they can kill you if you don't turn them around and into positive obsessions. Great post Randy!

  7. Obsession is a description a fly on the wall might have observing someone... Positive or negative but the task will, once begun by the obsessed, nearly always be successful.

There is another method that often occurs like magic. Operate without ANY DOUBT, none, and you too can produce effortlessly. Of course if you still have doubts, revert to obsession. I am obsessed about removing all doubt in what I am committed to creating.

  8. Great way to put it! Lets focus on the possitive ones. It will make the difference in our lives.
Keeping a possitive vision for Bangkok.

  9. Yes, we do have either positive or negative obsessions, and I think we should have positive obsessions about what motivates us and excites us to feel that we're living life to the fullest, and that life is worth living. And this life is a continuation/extension of yesterday and today onto eternity. Being obsessed is a healthy proof of 'us' living to the fullest, not being like the dead. Even every breath we take, we should be immersed in thoughts of living in the NOW that the Creator is giving, not in the past, nor in the future. We should plan the future, work it and being obsessed in the now that is a part of a successful positive future.

[The difference between people with empty livets versus people with successful, meaningful ones, is simply the things they choose to be obsessive about.]

    YES.

[Successful people have positive obsessions. Failures have negative obsessions. Which ones do you have?]

Positive obsessions. And positive obsessions are healthy possessions that one can have and should be unfearing. Positive obsessions prevail, just as faith prevails. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith and fear do not co-exist, and therefore, if fear sneaks in, faith should be professed.

Take good care, Randy. You're in my thoughts and prayers. I pray for peace in Bangkok and hold a positive vision. Love you. Hugs and Hugs:: -saachi
