What Even Buddha Could Not Foresee

Posted By: Randy GageDecember 17, 2015

For those of you who saw the Prosperity Scope this morning, let's continue the conversation on why you might be self-sabotaging yourself and not even know it.  Siddhartha Gautama Buddha never heard about memes and had no idea what they were. Yet he created some of the most powerful memes that still exist today. He once said, “Believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and common sense.”

Sage advice. Unless it isn’t.

Because the culture we live in today is brainwashing and indoctrinating you with memes – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is now accelerated by the omnipresent media and the technology that streams it.

Unless you have engaged in serious critical thinking and evaluation of your core foundational beliefs – and how you came to believe in them – what the Buddha called “your own reason and common sense” may be neither.

You and your team may be consciously working to move forward but subconsciously sabotaging your success with defeatist thinking or falling into the derivative thinking that produces mediocrity.

When someone tells you something is impossible, what they usually mean is, it’s difficult. When someone tells you it can’t be done, you have to take a step back and figure out why it can’t be done. Pull the reasons apart. There may be obstacle after obstacle, but buried in there with them is probably a meme that doesn’t belong. If a premise is incorrect, everything that is based on that premise is wrong also. Don’t let a minor practical challenge become a major mental obstacle.

This topic comes from my new book, Mad Genius.  It's coming out soon.  You can find information here: https://randygage.com/madgenius/  It's a manifesto for how to unleash your creative energy and become better at critical thinking.  Please spread the word on it Hashtag: #MadGenius

  1. Believe nothing unless it agrees with your own reason and common sense. When someone tells you something is impossible, it is probably just difficult. Thanks Randy I needed that RIGHT NOW.

  2. Nice post, Randy. The ancient Indians called the obstacles Kleshas - and all of them were rooted in ignorance. It's always great to be reminded that we must be ever vigilant - or get programmed by someone else.

  3. Reason and common sense?  Randy, I think you just lost all of your Jesus freak followers since religion is not based on reason and/or common sense.  It is based on blind faith and following without questioning.
