What Does the Evidence Say About You?

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 1, 2010

So guess who called me, right after I put up the post about him?  He had a question that would seem very positive to most people.  He asked, “I want to think positive.  But I can’t help myself.  Every time I try, I always hear the negative voice.  So how do I get myself to think positive?”

Now the day before, we had left the conversation that he was going to go online and download the new prosperity books and start reading them at lunch.

“You didn’t get the books!”  I screamed.

“How do you know?” he asked.

“Because you would have never asked that question if you had.”

He has the same problem a lot of lack-filled people have.  He has the belief that he wants to raise his consciousness and be happy.  But that’s not really true.  He’s milking too much out of being a victim to be willing to give it up yet.

I go by actions.  He calls and emails me with these statements about how he wants to change.  But his actions are not congruent with want he says.

Never go by the words, always go by the actions.  So here’s an interesting question...

If YOU called and said you were serious about growing and breaking through—would your actions justify your story?

  1. Most definetly. That why I hold a high position in my company. But oh, the victim mode...it's a bloody virus. Most people suffer from it to some extend.

  2. -RG,

Yes, definitely. The actions may not be apparent to an observer because I start with my self talk. That constant stream of talk that goes on in ones head. If I "see" that it is running negative I stop and say "I'm not going there".

    -DJM

  3. I purchased the Prosperity Series books yesterday and I'm almost finished with "Accept Your Abundance".

  4. Excusitis is deadly! Yeah, sure, change can be HARD. This stuff takes work. But change is impossible if you don't move an inch. Thanks for the "in your face" reminder - love it.

  5. After giving this some thought, yes , my actions are congruent with positive thinking and working in faith. My opera company is really starting to take shape now. It was one of your last posts about faithing it before having it that really struck a cord with me. So, I have been actively working in faith. It's scary but it's working! Thanks again for your insights.
    Have a great weekend everyone!

  6. Well I have to say I do the positive affirmations, goal exercises, research, personal development exercises and books and after so much time I have realized that the manifestation just isn't there. So I had an objective look at what I am actually physically doing. I am only doing that which I feel comfortable doing. So time to get out of the comfort zone. I hired a public relations co-ordinator last week to organize the things I need to do but have been avoiding. She is already organizing events and activities that have me sweating and feeling ill! Signs of growth! I guess the best ideas are worthless until they are acted upon! And I owe a lot of it to you Mr Gage, so, if your ears are burning it's because I'm thinking of you and depending on what I'm about to do, they initially may not the most pleasant thoughts but in the long run I know it is all good! So Randy Gage, A BIG THANK YOU!

  7. Great Question - some of us (me) wait untill the pain is so baaad before we act. The longer I study Prosperity, the more my readily I act.

Keep working with your friend, he is seeking your counsel. He's beginning his quest.

  8. Yes...but it can take time... needing to hear it over and over again for it to click...or hearing it from multiple sources... for someone to see the root cause and change the way their beliefs, thoughts, feelings, actions...and then their results will change.

For example, changing negative self-talk... but knowing to ask for things in the positive.
For example: asking for" financial freedom" instead of "no more debts", also asking in the present tense and not saying "I want financial freedom" because you get more want)... and this negative self talk can come from fears, limiting beliefs etc.

So i think it can take time to recognize our core beliefs, thoughts and feelings...change them and our self talk...and then change our results.

    1. and I think people need to be patient with themselves while doing the work... Love themselves unconditionally where they are...It is a big step to realize they need to change and to begin the process.

    2. "What do you want from me?"

“Hey, slow it down, whataya want from me? Whataya want from me?

Yeah, I’m afraid, whataya want from me? Whataya want from me?

There might have been a time when I would give myself away

Oh, once upon a time, I didn’t give a damn

But now, here we are, so whataya want from me? Whataya want from me?

Just don’t give up, I am workin’ it out…Please don’t give in, I won’t let you down

It messed me up, need a second to breathe…Just keep coming around

Yeah, it’s plain to see…That baby you’re beautiful and it’s nothing wrong with you

It’s me, I’m a freak, yeah…But thanks for lovin’ me ‘cause you’re doing it perfectly

Yeah, there might have been a time …When I would let you step away

I wouldn’t even try…But I think you could save my life” Adam Lambert

Did you ever ask: What do you want from me? I’ve been questioning a lot lately… Who am I? What is my purpose? What does God want from me?

I’ve been reading several books to help me find the answers… and I keep finding the same answers…answers I didn’t expect…

1.) One of the books “The Passion Test: The Effortless Path To Discover Your Life Purpose” by Janet Attwood and Chris Attwood, is helping me to figure out what my passions really are by asking: “When my life is ideal, I am…” Then they take you through a process to determine your top 5 passions. http://www.thepassiontest.com/

This is helping me to answer what I really want…and realizing that what I love is also what God wants for me. I discovered I had passions I didn’t realize and that my current life is not my ideal life.

There might have been a time when I would give myself away

This made me realize that I have settled. I am not leading the life I want …and it is not the life that God wants for me. And I also realize that surrendering to God is the only way to have a fulfilled life… the only way not to settle for less.

But now, here we are, so whataya want from me? Whataya want from me?

So what does God want from me?

2.) Another book I am reading helped me find the answer…The book is “Living on the Edge: Dare to Experience True Spirituality” by Chip Ingram.
      http://r12online.livingontheedge.org/r12online/

Chip also asked “What is it that God really wants from me the most? And how do I give it to Him?…I realized that my double, compartmentalized life had never been God’s intent. He wanted me- all of me! The missing power and absent joy could only come as I understood and applied the truth…only when I learned about surrender.”

Yeah, I’m afraid, whataya want from me? Whataya want from me?

I have heard about surrendering to God before… and I had similar fears to the fears Chip had.

Chip said: “My view of God was so warped that I assumed to surrender to Him would mean the end of the things that I held most dear…I would be miserable my whole life.”

Yeah, there might have been a time …When I would let you step away

What I didn’t realize was that “Total commitment is the channel through which God’s best and biggest blessings flow.”

Oh, once upon a time, I didn’t give a damn

Chip said ” Somehow I got the idea that God is stingy, unkind, and looking to punish me for all the ways my life didn’t measure up…Instead of a God who has a treasure awaiting His children and wants them to surrender- to make a total commitment so that He can give them the very best and biggest blessings…As I was talking to God…I heard the Spirit explicitly say to my heart,”Chip, I want to give you the very best; but you won’t let Me. As long as you maintain control of your life, you will always be destined to get only what you can provide for your life, not what I really want to give you.”

“He that spared not His own son [Jesus] but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also along with Him[Jesus], freely give us all things.” Romans 8:32

Chip realized his issue with God was deeper than his struggle to surrender: “The real issue was I didn’t really believe that God loved me or that He was good.”

I think this can come from false beliefs that we are not lovable, worthy, good enough, etc. Somehow we get these beliefs from church, family, tv, etc… usually when we are young. And we don’t even realize we have these beliefs. These beliefs limit us in our happiness, health, wealth, prosperity, love, etc.

“Authentic followers experience God’s power and presence in supernatural, powerful ways because God has the freedom to do this only in those who are fully His.”

“The Lord God is a sun and a shield. The Lord gives grace and glory, no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11

God will never withhold any good thing from you as you walk surrendered unto Him 24/7.

“Surrender is the secret to God’s best. Surrender is the key to power. Surrender is the channel through which God;s biggest blessings flow”

3.) In “Awakening: Fulfilling Your Soul’s Purpose on Earth” http://www.awakeningbooklaunch.com/optin.html

      Ping Li says:

“Our creator, God holds the solutions and the power of unconditional love to heal our hearts, our pain, our separation, our quiet desperation and wounds that come from being ignorant of the truth of who we really are in this physical dimension… we all know on a certain level that something has to change. The real question is where does it begin? I came to the profound realization that our most important task is not to place blame and demand changes of people and things outside of us. No, the biggest task starts within each one of us…The biggest contribution you can give the world is to heal your own life, heal your own heart and relationships with yourself and others, discover your true passion, find your purpose in this world and live a truly abundant and fulfilled life.”

It messed me up, need a second to breathe…Just keep coming around

“Everything in life is a choice. You can choose to let the world control how you live, or you can live according to what’s most important to you, your purpose and your heart’s deepest desires. Happiness and a fulfilled life are choices.”

“God’s desires for us are the same as our heart’s desires. And God’s visions are our highest visions and purposes in life…God’s vision for us is much more than anything we have desired for ourselves.”

It’s me, I’m a freak, yeah…But thanks for lovin’ me ‘cause you’re doing it perfectly

“Love is the answer to all challenges and problems in life. I knew all my problems would disappear if i could just love more, unconditionally. I needed to forgive myself, others, and everything I had done and had been done to me.”

“Hey, slow it down, whataya want from me? Whataya want from me?

“Your journey of higher consciousness and enlightenment will begin when you stop searching outside yourself for answers to true happiness in your life, slow down, let go and become quiet within. Then everything you seek will come effortlessly and precisely.”

Slowing down was hard at first for me… I always felt like I was always busy… and couldn’t even slow down even on the weekends. Slowing down was what my body was telling me… and what God was telling me.

Yeah, there might have been a time …When I would let you step away

I wouldn’t even try…But I think you could save my life”

      Jesus said:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

  9. Randy, sometimes I don't think the issue is so much of a victim mentality, but more of being stuck in a comfort zone. Even though your friend says he wants to change, he won't be able to find the motivation if things are "not really that bad". That's the main issue.... how do you go from having an interest in something to having a commitment?
Sometimes, it takes either a major negative event in your life, where you know you need to change, or just taking a good look at where you are and pushing yourself to do more and break out of that comfort zone because you know you want (need) to be more, have more, etc.
As for myself, I took a look this week at where I'm at for the halfway point of the year and realized I had been slipping a little recently. So this morning... back up at 6am working out and refocusing on what needs to be done the 2nd half of this year to double my income from last year.

  10. LOL! This situation is funny! Keep up the good work. I say it's funny because it is (to me) and because I say the exact same thing. People talk a good game but their actions tell the true story. One of my favorite sayings (especially to myself) has become "LESS TALK - MORE DO"; meaning, enough talking about what I want to do and more actions towards attaining it. I adopted this saying a few months ago because I was tired of talking and wishing. I just took a deep breath and went for what I wanted, knowing full well that some discomfort would come of it. It didn't come "easy" because there were alot of BORING classes and tests I had to attend to become licensed in Real Estate - but now that I have met the minimum requirements, I am having lots of fun. And all this was possible because I chose to shut up and get to work.

    Thanks.

For myself, I'd follow what the book(s) I am reading tell me to do. Information is one thing, doing is another. Persistence is key!

I have also found people who buy tons of books/cds/workbooks like yours and others on prosperity/abundance yet still cry and complain about their lot.

If people really want it, they will do...

    doers never talk...talkers never do!

  12. I have missed too many days of school. If I was to call and bother someone I would at least have given an example of how I changed my thinking and how I made an effort to move forward. It's not easy to get out of any pattern whether it be thinking or acquired habits - they need constant, conscious monitoring. The age old saying is true- "by their actions shall ye know them".

  14. RG,

Faith without works is dead. For me the works is the change of self talk, learning a new skill and telling myself that I can do it. It is also believing that I am worthy of the change.

I don't sit glued to the tube. I invested in an Ishuffle and know listen to replays of the message from Unity rather than Lady Gaga. I don't listen to the radio that much, some books I have uploaded to my pod. This is how I reprogram the sub conscious.

    Thanks,
    Jim

  15. Yes.

I was like your friend for too long. Eventually I realised that although I talked a good game, I had to start walking the walk too. This year I made a conscious effort to be better in every way. I gave up alcohol, got back into regular exercise, started eating healthier, and became more consistent in my business activity.

Guess what? Life has changed massively in 6 months! What's more I feel a whole lot more comfortable telling others what they need to do now I'm doing it too!

Good thing is ANYONE can do it!

    Mark

  16. This sounds like the author is more about selling his books than helping anybody! Will read more about his blogs to see if is worth even answer any of this posts....
"screaming: you didn't bought my books" What if you're books are not written in a language that every person understand the right message. Your role would be as a coach to get to everybody to make them understand the truth about themselves and then help them!
Read my book. if you don't get it you're...what?

    Really!?

      Really!?
