What Are You Attracting and Why?

Posted By: Randy GageDecember 16, 2009

So in yesterday’s post, I told you that we attract, intended or not, at the level we have personally evolved to.  Now of course, this can be one of the hardest things to see in yourself.  When we are experiencing lack in any area, it is natural to look at the outside factors.

I'm sure many of you right now are thinking, "That's all well and good Randy, but MY situation is different.  I was laid off at the factory, my mother is sick so I have to take care of her, the economy is bad in my area, and the transmission just dropped out of my truck - two days after the warranty expired! I am the victim of circumstance."

Sorry kids, I’m just not buying it…

Because it wasn't that long ago, that I would have been saying the same thing.  I was the "victim" to a host of tragedies, and saw absolutely no possible connection to what I had to do with them.  They were bad things that "happened" to me.

Thoughts attract their kind...

If you think about being sick all the time, you probably will be.  People who are running around spraying phones with disinfectant, carry a sweater, umbrella and facemask everywhere, take 87 supplements a day, and read 27 health newsletters are always sick.

I don’t think the issue is as simplistic as portrayed in “The Secret.”  But I do know that everything is energy, and the thoughts we give precedence to influence greatly what we attract into our lives.  So here's your homework:  Please work on this, and post your thoughts below.

What is the worst thing that happened to you?  Did it really just happen to you from fate, coincidence or circumstance - or did you have a part in manifesting it?

  1. Hmmm...The worst thing that happened to me, happened. It happened because I thought about it and worried about it, I am not going to mention what it was, but it was not fun...

So digging deeper into this subject, I am very healthy and believe that I am healthy, I use to be sick all the time and say things like, "This is how it is, I am always sick." I stopped saying that and started saying how healthy I was, I am never sick and haven't been in years. I even outgrew my allergies and asthma, weird. I stopped this negative process in a year, yes I turned my health around in a year.

Now as far as money goes, I am still working on that, I am struggling to get control of the negative money thoughts, but I am getting better at it. I think I need to go through Randy's 5 books on prosperity again and keep my thoughts positive, what do you think?

  2. I remember the first time my therapist had the audacity to suggest that so much of my hell as a kid was because it was easier for me to choose to live in denial. And when I say kid I mean a teenager with a functioining brain. It was shocking, horrible, shook up my reality, but it got me to where I am today. Being the first one in a large family to go to college, and get a PHD as well. No more, boo hoo, poor is me, not my fault that my parents were divorced, abusive blah blah. The older I become the more i realize that we all have horror stories that are painful. It's what we choose to do with them that really defines us-not only the abuse.

  3. Dear Randy

I know very well what you are talking about. I was one of the victims and inherited this belief when I came to kindergarten earlier as usual because the 3rd. child arrived and the flat was to small. For the kindergarten teachers I was just the poor child.
I got rid of that block with EFT.
We inherit beliefs until we are 6 yrs old and live according to them.
    Wake up!

  4. This is awesome! You know this is true, but in the midst of a crisis, you forget and get stuck! Thank you for this; it was right on time! I am re-creating my world as we speak!

  5. I have three that I have to wonder about when it comes to did we manifest it not. My 5 year old son and wife were hit by a drunk driver 31 years ago while on a bike which left him disabled for life and 5 years ago my wife and I were hit by a drunk driver and she had major neck surgery which has left her neck motions limited. I was ok. Then 3 months ago we were hit by a semi-truck and I'm ok but my wife was hurt again. Was it fate, coincidence or circumstance – or did we have a part in manifesting it? Sometimes I'm not sure.

  6. I don't believe that we attract our disasters. For example, I don't believe that a mother attracted the death of her child or women in Afghanistan attract the acid poured on them for going to school.

I believe we control, and thus attract, what meaning we give to events. A serious struggle can be seriously traumatic or life changingly beneficial.

I won't bore you with my traumas. To me, they are things that happened while I was in the vicinity. They don't mean anything to me or about me. That's my choice. Thus, I attract to me positive experiences and situations because I refuse to allow victimization into my consciousness.

  7. Maybe even you put it too simple. Sometimes I believe life just happens. But it is always up to us how we deal with that, what we get out of it and how long we let it hurt and cripple us.

So, what's the worst thing ever happened to me? My baby died while inside my womb. If I did manifest this, it was in retrospect (the pregnancy was utter bliss and trust, while the pregnancy after my stillborn son was utter despair, only to end with a perfectly healthy son). I think it just happened, and feel like kicking people who tell me it happened because of cosmic energetic ways to learn me something. Get real, my kid died.

But ofcoarse I did learn from it. Grow because of it. After and even between the tears, came love and warmth. That, I most certainly manifested myself!

  8. Randy Gage - Can you personally respond to the comment of Richard Burris above?

I guess it is GREAT - that it takes me quite a while to think of something that is a major negative that has happened to me - but my worst experience was living thru the Florida hurricanes of September 2004.

At the time I was living on North Hutchinson Island Florida.

Prior to moving there, I actually did extensive research and learned that a serious hurricane had NOT hit this area of Florida since 1933 - Then in September 2004 we were hit by Francis & Jeane - Both came ashore at about the very same place - incredible -

Any idea why something like this happened?

    Please advise.

  9. Hey Randy,

So I lost my father to a car accident when I was 4 years old. Being that young, the full extent of the incident never hit me until I reached maturity and began putting together all of the subtle ways it has affected my life. But that was the thing, I was focusing on how it affected every area and I was letting it dictate where it brought my life. The anger and frustration was a norm through my early adolescence, I would act out, I was quiet and reserved around others. I let things happen to me, and I blamed everything around me for the internal reality.

But then I realized that I was sick of being angry and frustrated and that I could live from here on out being miserable, or I could make something of my life. A switch flipped in my head and I realized that I can CHOOSE how I reacted and instead of focusing on effects, I could go out and AFFECT the world. I also realized how important our health is to achieve our desires and so nutrition and health promotion became my career focus.

Entrepreneurship is a beautiful thing in this regard, it's about creating something you want that's near and dear to your heart in a way that serves others and results in win-win results. I still find I am limited in subtle ways and subconcious fears, reading your site has challenged me to revisit some of these issues and really put them in the past for good, you see when you take risk, you can't play to push, you have to play to win, cause when you play to push, you play to lose. I think too many people are playing to push with their relationships and their everyday choices. We have no faith in our bodies, we have no faith in our selves. I am not going to be defined by that reality because I choose not to be.

Thanks and look forward to reading more Randy!

    I have found though despite

  10. "What is the worst thing that happened to you? Did it really just happen to you from fate, coincidence or circumstance – or did you have a part in manifesting it?"

The worst thing that happened to me, may have been the best thing and I did have a part in manifesting it. I was kicked out of the house after high school. I was not a bad kid...I was vanquishing victimhood. I changed my life. If I had not, I probably wouldn't have achieved all that I have achieved.

It wasn't easy. The alternative would have cost me more though.

I have worked for companies that were affected by the economy, that have gone bankrupt or that have been bought-out. I have worked for large companies that have regular layoffs and that were affected by military cutbacks.
I just saw it all as a part of the corporate world. It was another factor in why I was attracted to network marketing.

  11. One of the worst things that has ever happened to me...and there have been numerous....was when I lost custody of my only son. I was 19 years old and there was a long drawn out custody battle. In the end I lost for many different reasons. I was crushed. That was a long time ago.
Did I play a role in manifesting it? Absolutely...I grew up with rape, incest, alcoholic...etc. etc...you know the story. I did the "right" thing at 16 and I married "UP A CLASS." Yet, it would be natural that I would ultimately attract an abusive husband. At 18...I left that husband because I was tired of his abuse....and yet there was still that deep seated residue that is hard to shake consciously. So I created a situation to prove the things that I was holding on to inside. That I was worthless due to my family history.
It is amazing how we really want to be "RIGHT" and all "WHITE" and pure. I wanted to be soooo right that I found a way...devastating as it was...to prove the very things that I had felt about myself in the first place. I was unworthy...my family sucked...and I deserved what I got. WOW!!! Glad those days are gone.
We all create situations to "PROVE ourselves "RIGHT" to some degree whether we understand it or not. I am so glad that this one of the situations that has helped to make me a stronger and much more resilient person today. Today...I choose feeling happy over being right...every time.
Thanks Randy for all that you do. You are amazing..and a bit funny. Keep Rockin.

  12. I agree with you to an extent Randy. I do believe that we create our own realities and manifest things in our lives (health or sickness, wealth or financial struggles). But I also believe that there are things out of our control that we experience. Look at the tragedy of 9/11. I don't believe anyone in those buildings manifested that. When we go through things outside of our control then how we react to it is what defines us as a person.
    Your thoughts??

  13. Randy:
Can I vision be more than what I want? For me, since I grew up with all material stuff, It is not important. Having tailored clothes made, having a special car,a mansion with buttlers and maids, traveling in First Class doesn't moved me.

My heroes are beyond material things:Gandhi took on the whole British Empire and won. Martin Luther King took on "The White Establisment" in the Deep South and won.
Can my vision be that I want to built a 500 MW solar plant in Tallahassee,Florida? or give my money to poor kids who don't have the same opportunities as rich kids do?

  14. Randy:
Do you really think all the civilians been killed in Pakistan when the U.S. drops a 500 or 5000 pound bomb on al-queaad wahcko is because they attracted it?

  15. The worst thing that had "happend" to me was that I became an abuser of alcohol. From my early teenage I judge myself being different from others. That I had many screws loose , found myself very alone but longing for relations.
Drinking loosend that up and I became a hero on the dancefloor. I found my thing , some drinks and I am myself - certainly attractive.
As an abuser I searched for the next level and instead of raise them I droped all that was life during many many years.
Those driffters days are passed me now.
Two and a half year ago I did a serious honest 12 step program that releaved me from the obsession so today I am an recovering alcoholic and no more victimised for circumstances.

I can see that I chosed the circumstances on my way to get the significance.

Thank you for bringing the subject , Randy.

  16. I'm not sure we always make our thoughts happen but we can certainly control how we think about things that do happen. Simply put..."Life" is 10% what happens and 90% how we deal with it.

  17. You are very Right !!! I believe so that we attrach what we are thinking. Thats why for some people, they got all the bad things happen to them at a shot? As they keep thinking about it? Tiger woods ?

  18. What is the worst thing that happened to you? 5 DUI's, tickets that were closely together - had a huge financial impact, physically restricting via incarceration; frustrating; major anger;
    it was aweful.
Did it really just happen to you from fate, coincidence or circumstance – or did you have a part in manifesting it?

I remember being so angry and feeling that I did not deserve that, I was better than that - and frankly it was a turning point that I demanded of myself that I change - it was pivotal in my life; extending my life, impowering my properiety - it took years to change the direction of my life. I let many obstacles distract me. That's not on the "to do" list anymore.

  19. I could write about many of the things in my past that were horrible. But I m at a block. All of the"worst" things that had happened are in the past. My vctim stories as they are. I feel that by truely answering your question "What is the worst thing that happened to you?", that it would allow myself to play victim, just by talking about it.

But I will answer you this... Although I believe that before a certain age there are truelly things that are purely circumstance.

As for my adult life, I own it, I know now that it was all just a manifestation through thoughts & acting upon those thought that got me in drama.

I take full responsibility for myself these days. There are no excuses, no pointing the finger.

It is much easier to play victim.. to throw the blame around... to talk repeatedly about how bad things are, to be mediocre.

It is much harder to own who you are, the person you are inside. It's harder to say you failed at something, and have no one to blame for it but yourself. It takes a lot to realize that you are not a victim of your "circumstances", unless you choose to be.

Owning yourself will push you. But don't let it push you down. Let it push you to do better. You have to want it.

    =)

  20. Mind over matter.
That inspires me to work more on my smoking (health) I have been eating healthy, going to the gym, all I should to be healthy... but I still smoke.
I agree about the books I know I am going to get them too. I have heard really great things.

    =)
    Jamie

  21. I would like to add.... for all the people above... talking about how did we manifest particular things...

    It's simple really...

There are always going to be things that burst your bubble, if you will, that intrude in on your life. This does not mean you manifested it. If California has a really bad earthquake, did everyone in California manifest it? If Florida gets hit by a hurricane, did everyone there manifest it? Sometimes..... things just happen. B.t.w. there are other people manifesting things as well, good or evil, out there in the world, and what they manifest may just intrude on your life some day.... ex: 9/11

I believe asking such things is only a cop-out.

The question was "What is the worst thing that happened to YOU?" something you had a part in.

    =)
    Jamie

  22. I think there's a lot of truth in it. I guess it's if we think about something too much we unconsciously takes actions that bring us closer to the thing we're worried about.. maybe..? I find it scary actually and give myself a slap if I think about something I don't want!

What I have a hard time understanding is if we attract everything then how come things happen to millions of people who all have different energy levels such as the Holocaust or Tsunami for instance.. seems too simplified to say to everyone oh you attracted that ie being born in Africa and not being able to feed your kids.

No ever seems able to answer these questions and it seems convenient to just blame people sometimes.

  23. Randy

You know I'm actually having difficulty identifying what the worst thing is that ever happened to me. There have been some off-times in my life, but no one incident sticks out. The first major one was ugly and for a long time I blamed the other person involved. I talked to people about what happened and tried to get sympathy. These days, I don't really care and I get along with that person really well. As for the second one, I know that there are aspects I'm still blaming on the other person, but your post reminded me that I should quit doing that.

    Thanks!

  24. Guys I am very proud of the way you have approached this and are really applying yourself to the issue. This is how breakthroughs are reached.

Now a lot of you have asked me about specific incidents and whether I think you manifested it. I'll deal with that on the next post, which I hope to have up later today.

  25. The really terrible, psychological and financial wastelands of my life were all ALL a direct result of my decisions. However, they were decisions that I had to make in order to realize how wrong they were.

As a matter of fact, I can actually tell that a personal pendulum is swinging in my life right now. The fact that I know that I'm capable of steering myself out of this situation because I've survived the others gives me hope.

I look forward to the day when I am secure enough in this area to help someone else.

Thanks for a great post, Randy. You rocketh mightily.

    Best,
    M.

  26. Randy,
I agree with you, that somehow we attract certain things in our life. I too went bankrupt in my 1st business venture and that was painful. But I believe I needed to go through that to get to where I am today.
Still not as successful as I should be but getting there.

    Tom

  27. My thoughts are ... if you already practicing living your prosperous life ... it's hard to deflect negation and the talk that surrounds it. I find myself really struggling with work enviroments where you hear ALL day the economy this and family that. I find myself looking for corners to meditate and stay on the positive and grateful side of things.

I love your posts and try to spread the word and I can't agree with more about - Like attracts Like ...
Thank you for your inspiration and i don't think it is as easy as "The Secert" suggests ... Their is much more to living an adbundant life than a simple book.

    Thanks Randy ~

  28. It's a hard pill to swallow sometimes, but I believe it's the truth and the sooner someone can realize this the sooner they can change their life.

  29. hi Randy;
    I'm all in you.
last year I was a bankrupt.then after 10 months I became successful, but now I cannot seize prosperity, and all my colleagues get it, I know it depends on my thought, but I don't know what to do to re correct my subconscious mind?
    help me.
    best regards.

  30. The worst thing that happened to me was to lose everything that I had including two businesses bringing a salary of $500,000 + each year to my bank account. Yes I allowed this to happen because I was afraid of success. I was also surrounded by losers in a small town and I began to listen to what they had to say. I truly allowed my mind to think on things that destroyed everything I had built to that point. Thankfully by losing it all, I had to move my family away from the small town. We are now in a very energetic community where I have began to surround myself with success stories.

  31. Hey Jamie,

The smoking is related to your beliefs about your worthiness - or unworthiness as the case may be...rather than focusing on how "bad" you are for smoking, focus on your good points and how past experiences have undermined your self esteem and created the movie in your mind about how unworthy you are. You use the word "should" as if you feel by doing the "right" things your urge to smoke "should "disappear. Replace the word "should" with "will" and see what happens...;) Cheers, Poppy

  32. Our energy level is incredibly important.
I just love to be around and learn from folks such as yourself who have energy that shows.
I like to keep my energy up by working on my mind for 30 minutes each morning with an inspirational book or cd before I go online from home to work.I also brake for at least an hour daily for a hard walk or my power stretching routine or one of my other 3 routines.
Here in North America (I'm Canadian ehh) we have so many opportunities and yet sadly so many here don't see them.
I suggest turning off the news. Just that will help but find a way to get your energy up.I just happen to love excercise since I was an athelete in my past.
    Really great stuff Randy.
I'm glad I found you through Jack Humphrey.

  33. Looking back on the bad things that have happened to me, I must say that I had a hand in it. I was not smart enough to see the danger and avoid it. Wise people see a potential problem and stay away, but I did not focus enough on the consequences of putting myself in certain situations. Or I did not pay it enough thought. My advice to anyone out there - think before you act. Think twice even. There are many bad things we all could have avoided if we had thought it through better.

  34. Hallo Randy,
I hohe you much cam to Indonesia a gent.be tren me and my team.
    ok.......l waithing for you

    thanks

      RJ

    18. What is the worst thing that happened to you? 5 DUI's, tickets that were closely together - had a huge financial impact, physically restricting via incarceration; frustrating; major anger;
      it was aweful.

    29. hi Randy;
