The Prosperity in Pain

Posted By: Randy GageAugust 7, 2018

In the last post, we looked at some of the very limiting or even harmful things we impose upon ourselves.  But not everything we impose on ourselves is bad. Some of them can be helpful in your growth.

Pain is one of those potentially beneficial scenarios.  Not that pain is always good, because it’s not.  Or because we should want to experience it, because we don’t.

Yet it’s helpful to recognize that much of the pain you experience is self-imposed.  And often it is the bitter-tasting medicine that you need to heal yourself.

This is only true when you have done the work required for a healthy self-esteem and love yourself.  When your esteem is strong, you set goals and habits congruent with who you currently are, and the higher version of yourself that you aspire to become.  If this is the case, then when you’re exposed to an incongruent influence and perhaps stray off the path, your subconscious mind will create pain.  Then the key is having the self-awareness to recognize the inner physician within yourself, and take the bitter medicine required with peace and composure.

So how you doing on that?

  1. Randy, when we keep aspiring to 'become' we stay on a treadmill because we are trapped in a paradigm. I think self esteem is important but it is an ego construct and does invite us to feel good about ourselves but it is based on the external and often fails us, and unfortunately it involves measuring ourselves against others, whereas Self Worth is at a far deeper level and doesn't involve rating ourselves and is more about being ourselves and never loses its value.

  2. Speaking of physicians and medicine, is that a photo of the hand of Jesus or a typical physician who is reaching out to grab your wallet?

  3. This topic is so in line with a book you have got to read Randy and your followers. I'm reading it for the 3rd time and the revelations I am receiving are blowing my mind. The author is Ted Dekker and the title is called, "The Way of Love". Fascinating read.

  4. I think that grieving process, when your mourning and the pain of self awareness growth is part of the journey.

  5. I fully agree with you Randy. Pain is necessary to grow as a person and if you aren't experiencing some sort of it, you're probably at a standstill in your life.
Speaking of pain, there is an interesting practice among company leaders and world class ceo called "voluntary discomfort". Essentially, you make it a habit to regularly put yourself through things that cause discomfort. A common example is successful business people who try living with the absolute bare minimum for a few days on occassion, sleeping in a cardboard box, barely having anything to eat etc.

Do you personally d this practice?

    1. I did something similar, but distinct. A few years back I unplugged form all social media, and sold my condos, cars and lot of other stuff and took a 2-year sabbatical, traveling the world. Just worked on personal growth and self-development every day, with no concerns for status, material possessions, etc. It was one of the most beneficial episodes in my life. -RG
