Tithing for Prosperity

Posted By: Randy GageApril 22, 2012

The blog is FREE!  Thanks for helping unlock the blog from the last post, and getting the job done on Project Forgive.  Now let’s look at the second area many people resist when trying to live in accordance with the laws of prosperity…

The Tithing Law of Prosperity

Tithing is a spiritual law dating back thousands of years.  It is simply the action of giving back to the source of your spiritual sustenance.  Usually this means your church, temple, mosque, or synagogue. The word tithe comes from Latin and means tenth.  That’s why traditionally tithes are for ten percent.

Tithing is different from randomly sowing seeds or giving to charity.  It is the way you acknowledge the source of your abundance and continue it in circulation.

I started tithing about 20 years ago when I began studying the laws of prosperity and I’ve been tithing ten percent of every dollar I’ve made since.  Honestly, I began doing it out of fear.  Now I tithe joyfully, lovingly, and gratefully.

You never know how your tithe will come back to you.  Money is a pretty common way.  But it could also come in the form of reconciliation with someone you’re estranged from, a gift, a new relationship, a healing, or a promotion.  There are many ways your good can come back to you.

Here’s what I also believe.  The universe will always get its tithe.  You can do it voluntarily, or by force.  But you always pay.

All those years I never tithed, I was always having my car break down, losing paychecks, having medical bills, and every other conceivable thing that kept me broke.

Remember, prosperity is about circulation.  You have to keep your substance circulating, or it gets stagnant.  When you tithe by choice, you invoke many of the other laws, including the law of giving and receiving, creating ripples of giving and abundance that eventually find their way back to you.

So what about you?  Do you tithe or not – and how has that worked out for you?

  1. Excellent Randy. Intention needs to be worked in here too. If you give your 10% thinking "I expect to get a good ROI!" like you're a demanding shareholder in God Inc., I suggest that is something different. That's an "investment." As with all investments sometimes they pay off and sometimes they don't. Do your due diligence.

If we tithe because that is a natural part of being in the energy of the Universe and we do it "joyfully, lovingly, and gratefully" confident it will be exactly what another part of the Universe needs then it seems to me we're in the spirit you're talking about. When you participate All That Is knows you're there and that's all you need to know.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard preachers push people to tithe because God would give them back a "hundred-fold."  Something missing there, don't you think?

  3. Randy,
My husband and I tithe faithfully.God deserves his 10% and more. Love thie post!

  4. I recently started tithing again not because  I didn't want to but I was so busy I simply forgot. I have been struggling to make money in business so maybe tithing more regularly will help.

  6. As a Bible believer, my universe has two powers at work.  The first is God,  who is light and in Him is no darkness at all. The second is the god of this world whose mission is to steal, kill, and destroy. In Malachi 3:10-12 God highlights a benefit of the tithe with His promise to "rebuke the devourer for the tithers' sake". We are instructed to honor God with the first fruits of all our increase cheerfully and not grudgingly. This allows Him to run interferrence for us. 90% of our increase with God's blessings goes further than 100% of it  without God's blessings. I am my Father's son and I don't like to see Him blamed for things He does not do. I didn't write the book.

  8. Randy,

So what about the people who don't believe ? Most people in my country or lets say ALMOST whole europe are not believers. Can we tithe ? If so, where ? And the 10% comes from ... my paycheck ? What about people who don't have a paycheck ?

    Thanks!

    1.  @million dollar You tithe to whatever you believe in and it provides your spiritual nourishment.  People who own businesses tithe on the profits they take out.  Check out my book The 7 Spiritual Laws of Prosperity for a deeper explanation.  -RG

      1.  @Randy_Gage Can You give any examples of spiritual nourishment, not including religion to us europeans since we tend to be less and less "no religious" ...

  10. coming from a religious background, I learned how to tithe when i did my first baby-sitting job at 10 years old. i don't know how tithing works. I don't get it, i don't understand it. All i know is that I stopped working a year ago to go back to school. I worked for years because we couldn't afford to live without my paycheck. Well, my paycheck has been nill and nothing has changed. We still buy the same things we always have, still go on yearly vacation, and yup, still tithe. Something majical happens with money when it's tithe. It seems to expand or stretch longer than it should! If you are a non-beleiver, i can see how this sounds like bs, but this is the reality of my life today.

  12. Randy? that issue is a strong question for me.

You tell us that most churches and religions tell people wrong messages, infect them with mind viruses (memes) and then you go and give to the church 10 % of your efforts, of your energy, of what you have. So I can make a conclusion that YOU ARE FUNDING THE FORCES THAT ARE CAUSING PEOPLE TO STAY BROKE!!!!!

I did it for several times too. Since those donations my prosperity has actually rosen, but is it for that reason? There were many other principles and laws I was folloing on my way. Now if I think about bringing 10 % of my present income to the church and then I imagine the events that happen everyday in the church (prayer, tha way the priest is speaking, the messages people get infected during the messiah). I feel myself like I AM FUNDING TERRORISM!!!!

How does all that combine? What is the proper attitude that a person must have to tithing?

This question has been worrying me for a long time so I am looking forward to listen to your take on this.

    Thank you,
    LEVON

    1.  @Levon Makinyan What I am recommending only works if you're attending a place of worship that teaches a true message of love, not the kind you are describing!  -RG

  15. Randy.. Do you consider when someone donates to a project like the Forgiveness one you posted (I did donate by the way), that this is also tithing to a degree? For me, tithing is about giving and it isn't necessary that the donation is to a spiritual organization.. Your thoughts?

BTW, Three Dog Night is still around.. in fact they're playing a gig at the Mountain Winery here in the Bay area this summer 🙂

The Hebrew word Avodah refers to service of G-d and devotion to Him. This includes the Offerings in the time of the Beit ha-Mikdash.( In English the Temple) which today are replaced by prayer, and ultimately all the Mitzvot or good deeds that we perform in serving Him. “Service” implies that we do it for the sake of serving, because we have the ability and inherent motivation to do so. This is no concept of karma in Judaism. This is one of the things on which the world stands.
Another is Gemitut Chasadim in English “random acts of kindness”. We are kind and we forgive simple because it is right and just to do so.

  20. Love this post. Tithing is a great example to show us if we are lack or abundance focused. Most people operate on the visible and with limited thinking - if I give 10% away, that means I will have less,  when in fact the truth lies in the invisible and whatever we give away comes back multiplied from the invisible and unlimited source. As Joel Osteen says,
    "Have a need? Plant a seed. "
Whatever you need give away - be it love, money, or other. Yesterday I wanted to sow a seed and help a friend but she had a hard time receiving - and I begged her to let me give her what I had in mind as by not receiving we sometimes block other peoples abundance - she eventually accepted and it was a win win - she got what she wanted and I got the opportunity to sow some seed.
Lori Mackey has a wonderful tool to help kids understand these principles for a mere $25. For every 10  dollars a child receives he sets aside a 10% tithe, 10% for savings and 10% for investments. Brian Tracey says if you teach a child these principles they will never have money problems for the rest of their life. I bought one of these for my daughter 10 years ago and gives up 30% no matter and believe me she always has lots of money and she is still at school!   Info at  - http://store.prosperity4kids.com
I would highly recommend it to any parents.

  22. Conventional financial advise says to pay yourself first. I, as you do RG, give back to the source of my abundance. I'm only a caregiver, the flow was here long before me & will continue long after I'm gone.

By returning to the source that which comes from the source I've been given more to care for.

  27. Hello Randy,
I do tithe when I remember. What I acknowledge though as incontrovertible truth is that whether you choose to tithe or nor, you always end up paying to the Universe.

    Thanks for the post.

  29. I also tithe , and I certainly agreethat prosperity is one of many results of tthing. However, properity is not my motivation to tithe. For me, it is the way God has given for believers in God to show that God is first in their life, by giving Him the first tenth of all their increase.

  33. I have a doubt about tithing. On the one hand I must be tithing a dime of every dollar that flows through me if I strive for prosperity. On the other hand if I’ve gotten a loan I’m tithing twice. The first time when I’ve received the loan. And the second time when I have made the money to repay the loan. Is it correct? Or I have mistaken in my thoughts…

    1. @aguriev just tithe once.dont make it more complicated than it is.The point is yr giveing back to society and in no way can you control the outcome. You simply have to trust you will receive back.

  36. What a bull i read here.
Iam a Dutch minister with a Jewish mother and for 35 years  i never pay tithes and i never preach tithing.
I travel around the world special around Asia like country's as Indonesia and India / Myanmar to preach THE GOSPEL of CHRIST to the richest and to the most poor of the slums in Delhi.

Before i became a DISCIPLE of CHRIST i was a hard criminal and money drugs and rock & Roll was my life.
My question to you who are  tithing promoters and  pastors who get the tithes from hardworking believers,  do you have a JEWISH-mother from the (LEVITES TRIBE)?

Don't you know that our LORD YAHWE give the tithing right only to LEVITES and tithing was a command of our Thora like THE SABBATH 7day and ALL the other LAWS what is given by PROPHET Mosje (Mosus)?
CHRIST make me as HIS jewish-disciples FREE from THE TORAH (THE OLD COVENANT) read in GAL.4:4-5
You as GENTILE'S  have to- REPENT from this LIE according MONEY-TITHING because it is build on twisting THE HOLY WORDS OF YHWH.
Tithing was NEVER - MONEY but a FOOD tax of ANCIENT YISRAEL
Start to be a TRUE DISCIPLE who dont give 10% but 100% of yourself and ALL your possesions and fulfil THE ROYAL  LAW of THE NEW TESTAMENT COVENANT by practice THE GRACE of YHWH (THE HUMBLE LOVE) Rom.13:8-19 GODS LOVE that THE HOLY SPIRIT pour out in hearts of  DISCIPLES read in Rom.5:5

Dear readers YHWH want your heart and not your MONEY !!!

Do you think that YHWH THE CREATOR need you to fulfil HIS GREAT PLAN for this earth?
Start to read self your BIBLE and ask THE HOLY SPIRIT to GUIDE you in THE YHWH'S TRUTH?
May THE LORD YAHOSHUA BLESS you all with HIS TRUE WISDOM

    AMEN.

  37. DanStepel
Dear Dan, when we are DISCIPLE'S of CHRIST we have the character of YAHOSHUA THE CHRIST  because THE INDWELLING HOLY SPIRIT in our hearts we practice YHWH'S LOVE and we fulfil THE COVENANTS to LOVE YHWH above ALL and others like our self.
That's THE NEW TESTAMENT COVENANT we read in THE BOOK of THE PROPHET Jeremia 31:31-34 (IT is YHWH'S INDWELLING SPIRIT who let us OBEY THE LORD of ISRAEL

  38. What if my Spiritual knowledge and teachings come from many source other than a particular organization? Who/what would a person tithe to? Ny teachings come from many different authors, You Tube and Gaia videos.

      Thank you,
      LEVON

    19.  @million dollar You tithe to whatever you believe in and it provides your spiritual nourishment.  People who own businesses tithe on the profits they take out.  Check out my book The 7 Spiritual Laws of Prosperity for a deeper explanation.  -RG

    24. Randy this is the first time I see the Tithing Law of Prosperity. Can you please recommend a good book to learn more about the laws of prosperity? I am very excited about this topic and I will appreciate a recommendation!

    26.  @Randy_Gage Can You give any examples of spiritual nourishment, not including religion to us europeans since we tend to be less and less "no religious" ...
