Think About It...

Posted By: Randy GageJune 29, 2010

If you read my five-book prosperity series, you’ll remember I talked about Matt.  He’s a teammate from one of my softball teams, who seems to always expect the worst.  And he’s usually right.  He sent me a message again, talking about how bored he was, didn’t know what to do with his life, hates his job, etc.

Tired of this never-ending saga, I sent him a terse note back to stop whining, get out his credit card and go to http://su.pr/2EETrW and buy the books.

He replied, “Randy it is not prosperous to charge your really, really, really good friends who are in financial hardships to read a book written by you!”

I sent him back the following, “In all seriousness, you are NOT in financial hardship.  You do have lack consciousness, however.  And that's why I wish you'd buy the books.  If you buy them, you might actually read them.  My experience of you is that if I gave them to you, you scan through them for 30 seconds and then you'd never look at them again.”

I got a fascinating reply back.  He said, “YOU TRY LIVING ON 27K a year.”

“I have a better idea," I replied, "YOU TRY LIVING ON 27K a week.”

What do you think about that?

  1. It's a shame that so many people have been programmed so negatively, that they always expect the worse, and worse yet... that they will most likely never change their mindset because of their deeply ingrained pessimism... even when someone else who clearly has the answers provides an easy solution.

Sometimes people just feel better about complaining about their problems than making the effort to do something about them... because after all, a lot of these people feel that someone or something else is to blame for their situation, anyway, and that it's pointless to even try and fix the situation.

We as optimists and believers in other people will still do our best to help guide these people in the right direction, though, because we know in our hearts that these people can make things happen if they just believe in themselves and take action.

  2. Pfft... we've 6 kids and lived on 18,000 a year. It's all in the mind as to your financial woes. We felt poor as poor could be on that amount, invested in ourselves with some books (like Randy's) and realized, hell's bells, we ARE prosperous and it changed our lives.

It's a perception issue and a study of relativity.

  3. Hard to imagine how somebody who has played along side Randy Gage for any length of time doesn't jump at the opportunity to learn as much as possible. I have some super-prosperous friends whose advice and occasional thoughtful word has always resulted in better decisions than I would likely have made on my own 🙂

  4. Randy

Obviously your beliefs and ideas produce $27K/week results and your friend's beliefs and ideas produce $27K/year results. What has me curious though Randy, is why you continue to associate with this guy. You've mentioned somewhere in the past that you don't mind having broke friends so long as they're moving towards a higher level of prosperity consciousness, (or something along those lines). What has you continue your association with him if he's still so stuck? Do you owe him a huge favour because he saved your life?

    Carmen

    1. You can choose your friends. But you can't choose your softball teammates. 🙂

And I'm a sucker for always seeing the potential for someone to breakout.

  5. So fine example of two people living in the same space but in different dimensions or paradigms if you prefer...
There are so many people who would like to be close to Randy and get some of that mindset he's living in, rub off them.... and then there are people who are right next to him and nothing rubs off!
    How interesting and common actually...
Well the seekers find and mindset cannot be spoon-fed, there needs to be readiness on the other side.
I was reading 'Autobiography of A Yogi' and it's the same - who are looking for the light, can see it and the ones who are not, will not recognize it even if it's about to blind them...

But that's not the focus of Randys question anyway, yes Randy we all need to live of at least 27K a week, that is just a great idea! ... so we all need to imagine now what that feels and looks like!

    Thanks buddy

  6. I was listening to a cd yesterday, that kind of answered my question to the situation we are now living: "To stay focused, we need the contrast" and "to be able to choose we need the contrast". Matt can choose to live a life of not so quit despare. We can choose to listen to him and keep him around us or not, it is our choice. If we would get rid of all the contrast, I believe that we would be a very little group on this earth. We all have a choice to make. Some people needs that story that someone hurt them 25 years ago, they feel alive when they tell it, again, and again, and again... For us, we just need to be able to turn the switch off so we don't hear it again, and again, and again...
I am happy to have found this answer, because it helps me a lot right now.
We are surrounded by contrast. We choose what we want to live with. Am I taking the right direction with this one Randy, or could you help me more?
    carole

    1. Yes you have nailed it on the head here. Many people hang on and re-tell their "victim" story their whole lives.
They get their identity from that.

      -RG

  7. LOL! Yes, the complainers... I had a good one the other day. As a nurse, I often bump in to these people. This lady wanted a doctors appointment, because her heart were troubling her. But, she said she also went on antidepressants; she´d been on two funerals last couple of months - one young boy driving in to a truck and another young man doing something else. But that all happened before the surgeries. And the knees that always hurts. And she just got back from the hospital. "No wonder my heart starts giving me trouble now!" she exclaimed, being the perfect victim she was.

I often ponder upon what my role in all this would be... tell the lady to get a grip, or to just tilt my head and softly say Im so sorry for your loss, and your heart, and surgeries... and whatever else...

This time, I had to bite my lip, and tilt my head. But someday I sure would like to try your take on it Randy.

  8. I suck at softball but I'd trade places with that dude in a heartbeat, in order to have the opportunity to hang out with you and have your mastery of prosperity consciousness in my ilfe in person! He has no idea what a great opportunity he has. And it sounds like he doesn't want to change!

  9. Here's the distinction I make on giving/buying books to help others. If they are SEEKING ME OUT and wanting insights and advice on their own volition, and appear interested and grateful for whatever I provide...then I tend to give them a book or even buy a book FOR them. However, if someone is contacting me reluctantly, and has only a perfunctory interest in pursuing some new idea (because they "should") then I simply refer them to some resources and move on. They have to WANT something. And I concur that investing a few precious shekels is one way to begin caring more about going in a new direction.

  10. Ouch,

The truth hurts sometimes. Most people come home and live their life through the television. Which is an oxymoron because there is "no vision" and no "tele".

I have had times where I have had to face the fact that I was the person at the scene of the crime everytime. Once I got past the denial it made it fun like an adventure. Sometimes fearful, but most times exciting and wonderful.

Thanks for you posts. They are like a TV show to me. I look forward to the episodes in my inbox

  11. I think Matt should consider the fact that he earns 27K a year and complains about the difficulty he experiences with that income, yet he has time for softball. It seems that if his income or his boredom were truly a concern he would prioritize his time to find/develop more meaningful work (which could create a better cashflow).

  12. Your right. He should buy the books. Then he has a vested interest in reading them. After he reads them and shows interest, throw him a tape series!

  13. Randy,

Thanks for writing this post , i find the information that you have shared of great value to the people that i connect with and going to pass this on to my tribe. I look forward to reading more from you.

  14. Try living on 27k a week! haha! love it!

It's true, when you get something for free the value is perceived as less... I have gotten some stuff that is high value for free and still haven't gone through it... then again I have a ton of high value stuff I haven't even gone through at all yet! I will though!

Great post and thoughts as always randy!

  15. Great replies back, Randy. I enjoy your willingness to really put it out there. Too bad, though, your friend will likely not get your intentioned wake-up 'smack'. He's so mired in 'victimhood', you'll likely get added to his list of MF's who created the lack in his world.

  16. It's a shame to see that Matt was negative about trying to live on 27k a year, where we come from that would be a fortune and people would hope to live on half that. I personally am trying to hit the 27k a week.

  17. Great post Randy on 2 levels. First on prosperity consciousness being the catalyst for wealth. 2nd is the fact that you want him to buy the books rather than just giving them to him since he is a friend. When I was in my mid teens I wanted to take martial arts. The instructor told my dad that I should find a way to earn money and pay for my own lessons. The reasoning being that if I worked and paid out of my own pocket, even at a young age, then I would work harder and have more focus, rather than if I just showed up after my dad paid every month for me. It was a great lesson that has stuck with me.

  18. Today is my last day on a job I have had for 33 years. Retiring from a job, not my life. Now my real life begins. I made $39,000 a year. This is my base. The following is my plan.

    Year Base Period Annual Income
    2010 $39,000 Annual = $39,000

    2012 $39,000 Quartly = $156,000
    2013 $39,000 Monthly = $468,000
    2014 $39,000 Weekly = $2,0208.00
    2015 $39,000 Daily (5 day week) = $10,140,000.00
    Etc, Etc

  19. Interesting dilemma we all live in. The more we argue for our set of troubles and blessing the more solid they become. Being always up against “it” is the real problem. We live in a psychological time. We tend to ask questions and think in those kinds of terms. Asking someone "Why..." is a psychological investigation that produces no useful result. There are questions that produce different kinds of data.

Maria Nemeth asks, "What is the question to which your life is the answer?" You will want to ponder this one because the question is not psychological.

  22. A friend of mine pointed out that for a lot a people it can be quite hard to change their mindset. If they say to themselves "I am rich" it starts of a major discussion in their head like "Yeah, yeah, be realistic, you are NOT".
She has solved this by saying instead of "I AM rich", "I allow myself to be rich". I have tried it and it makes it a lot easier and it does get the desired results.

    1. I can't speak for Randy, but you may want to seek medical help. This is from his post: https://randygage.com/blog/dying-to-live-or-living-to-die/

"If you’re facing medical challenges or pain, know that science is advancing every day at an exponential rate. There are bionic limbs, breakthroughs in stem cell research, and diseases being cured all the time.

If you suffer from severe depression, find a medical professional to help you. It may even be something as simple as a chemical imbalance that can be corrected with acupuncture, a change in diet, or medication.

A trained counselor can help you through unresolved issues of abuse, abandonment, or trauma. If money is an issue, there are mental health programs offered from the government, or seek help from a spiritual advisor.

If your heart is broken, it means you have the capacity to love and are loving! There is someone special out there, waiting to meet you."

      Praying for you.

      1. Please don't do it man.

I know how much it hurts. I have been there. I won't get into details, but I feel you.

We need you to do crazy stuff that changes the world. and you can't do that if you're dead.

  24. This reminds me of the story in John Maxwell's book, The Difference Maker b/t Linus & Lucy. Linus tried everything to make Lucy more comfy/happy & she didn't want any of it. She just wanted to complain.

If Matt isn't hungry for change, he won't change. When the cost/pain of staying the same is greater than the cost/pain of change, he will change. Doesn't matter how many books you offer or give until he is hungry to change.

  25. Este tipo de atitude, como a de Matt, é muito comum em qualquer lugar, inclusive aqui no Brasil. Lido com isto todos os dias com pessoas a minha volta.

    ===================================

This kind o attitude, like Matt`s, is very common everywhere, including here at Brazil. I see this everyday with people around me.

    (Sorry the poor english)

    Abraços e sucesso!

  26. Hi Randy

I love following your very steps. You've urged me to reread Atlas Shrugged. This time the philosophy sticks more as well as the great story. She was GOOD to the degree of being inlightened in her capacity to name feelings and pointing out that it"s the looters who is afraid to feel; the movers stays present to them. It is a book about love in it's real sense.

    ***

"YOU TRY LIVING ON 27K a week”, you replied to Matt. I think that point taken Matt had realised he has got no clue of how it is being rich. His error if he stays in that recurring dialoque (wonder whether it's just illustrative for the case of study, or if actually that conversation of yours has now moved) is that he judge others standards not knowing them. Very few doesn't. Even Ain Rand did that in Atlas Shrugged - making generalities about India.

The only way to find out how it is to be poor is to try it. But if you where not raised poor, what insanity would propt you to persue living on less?

The only way to find out how it is to be wealthy is to become one who is.

    Love and Respect

  27. This post made me laugh out loud! How right you are! Negative people just don't realize that their circumstances are their responsibility. It's surely easier to blame outside sources.

I think what you did was spot on! Thanks so much for sharing!

      ===================================

    27. This post made me laugh out loud! How right you are! Negative people just don't realize that their circumstances are their responsibility. It's surely easier to blame outside sources.

I think what you did was spot on! Thanks so much for sharing!
