There Is Not Always a Shortcut

Posted By: Randy GageSeptember 16, 2018

Most people spend the vast majority of their time looking for ways to avoid pain, reduce work, ease effort, eliminate discomfort and uncover a “hack” for just about everything.  But not every place worth going to has a shortcut...

Our culture has become obsessed with entitlement thinking and delusion.  No, you can’t “dream away the pounds,” and your Tesla isn’t going to roll up in the driveway just because you visualized it.

The things that are really worth doing, usually don’t have a shortcut.  If you want a strong marriage, it tales a lot of work.  If you want to climb Mount Everest, you have to start at the bottom and climb all the way up one side.  Having a helicopter drop you off on the summit will not give you the same sense of accomplishment.

Most people think the pain, sacrifice and inconvenience of a goal is a barricade.  But it’s usually a bridge.  It’s the self-discipline that gets you there.

In my experience, the pain of discipline is always less than the pain of regret.

  1. What story are you listening to?
Everything is hard: there is no shortcut?
Marriage tales a lot of work? (to afford a spouse or to avoid a spouse? or something else: inequality is hate)
You need pain, sacrifice and inconvenience?

What story do you listen to? We listen to stories everyday. Some stories we listen to by choice, other stories we may not want to listen.

Stories create our future. We may think we are listening to religious or historical stories that will get us to where we want to go. I would look at the stories and ask yourself if that is really what you want to create in your future. It may have already created your current life.

I stay out of the Bible. I don’t want to suffer and be crucified.

I read and listened to a lot of history about the past that is not in the Bible. I know I don’t want to live back when history and those stories were written.

There are stories from Ancient Mesopotamia and later. There were wars going on and many enemies. There were wars with Ancient Egypt and Rome. There were stories written to destroy the enemies. The stories would make the writers superior over everyone else. They make people sin, suffer, and die.

We are all born equal. Don’t believe stories that dis-empowered you or others. That is hate and it kills you.

Disempowering women or anyone else kills you spiritually.

Rome banned Christianity for several centuries. One historian said he didn’t understand why Rome later accepted the Bible. Previously Rome viewed it as a killjoy religion. Then Rome carried Christianity to all of the territories it conquered. Christianity was riding Rome. Now it rides on anyone believing it.

Some stories we can learn from. Ancient Egypt was focused on life and eternity. They actually wrote stories not to sin and to be successful.

I think other stories create sin, suffering, and death. The results we can see today. I think people are suffering and are in pain. They find ways to try to deal with the pain. The planet has also been harmed by these stories.

We can take our lives back. It starts by changing the stories you listen to.

    1. I totally agree with everything Randy has said. I have realized more recently that thoughts and emotions are some of the biggest challenges that most people have to getting to their goals and dreams. We all have thoughts, even random ones, we have no clue where they came from, yet most of us think that we have no control over our thoughts and emotions. Our thoughts come first, then they create the emotions. The emotions lead to decisions which lead to our outcomes. I think the most valuable personal advice I can add to this blog, is from personal experience. If you can control your emotions, nothing is impossible for you. It's easy to blow up at the guy that just hit your benz. It's easy to get caught up in the drama of life. Until you learn to pay attention to what you are thinking about, your thoughts will rule you and your emotions. Emotions can be controlled. It's not easy, but once you get a handle on this, there isn't too much that can get in your way. The next time someone totally frustrates you, for whatever reason, try not to go in your usual direction. Look at the situation as just one more person finding their way, just like us. Don't judge. Don't condemn. Just show them kindness and love and watch the gift you give them and yourself. Life doesn't have to be that hard.
