The Thinker of the Thought

Posted By: Randy GageJune 9, 2011

Most people move along the blind impulse of their dominant thoughts.  These are reactions to the stimulus of external things like billboards, commercials, gossip, and email chains.    They are the slaves of thought…

They obey the impulse of the moment, concerned only with immediate gratification.

The person of enlightenment travels swiftly along a chosen path of his or her own.  They intelligently select what kind of programming they are exposed to, and even when subjected to random exposure, they consciously choose how to respond.

To reach enlightenment, you must know the nature of thought, and understand and obey the law of your being.  You must be the thinker of the thought.

  1. Good pieces of advice. Select what kind of programming we are going to be exposed to and choose how we are going to respond.

  2. Spot on Randy. And in my experience, a key reason more of us don't do more of what you are urging is because it takes effort and sometimes the willingness to endure discomfort.
It's easier to allow our thoughts to run on autopilot even if doing so keeps us stuck.

Paying attention to, question, challenging and changing habits of thought takes intention and effort, but the payoff is priceless.

    1. Right on Alan. Henry Ford said it so well: "Thinking is the hardest thing one does. That's why so few are engaged in it."

    2. Very true.... As you think so shall you do and as you do so shall you reap the rewards of your actions.

  3. I choose uplifting, beautiful, healing, educational input and control occasional random negative input by either leaving the environment or using my iphone/headphones to create a more positive one.
My life/relationships are so much different now. Read the book "Messages from Water" by Masaru Emoto and learn how the thoughts we think, words we say "change" the water in our bodies to reflect the input. the words "love and gratitude" spoken or written on/to the water container will create a beautiful, organized crystal snowflake. The negative words "war, you fool, not good"
will cause the water to create a picture of panic, disorganization, fear (no crystal at all). Our bodies are 70-90% water! What do we want it to look like? Imagine the power of healing available to us just by using positive, healing, loving words to change the water in others!
    With much Love and Gratitude
    Kathleen

  4. You are not your thoughts.

    Your thoughts are not you.

    But you do think thoughts.

So, being the thinker of your thoughts, what could you not do?

    kh

  5. RG,
THe hardest work anyone will ever do is change their thoughts, beliefs and reactions.
It is the most rewarding work you will ever do and the reason I believe we are here. To get closer (Gloify) God and live in the God state.

    Thanks for an excellent post.

    Jim

    1. We are always one with God; we just mistakenly think we are separated. The only thing we have to do to get closer to God is to release the belief that we are separate.

  6. To become the thinker of the thought, you must first come to understand you are not actually the thinker at all. It's a discouraging belief (and a limiting one) that this is an arduous or painful process. It's actually not a process at all, and it's certainly not arduous. What distance is there between you and your thoughts? That is the distance that must be traversed to realize who you really are. The distance of a thought is what separates you from your full potential.

  7. I am not the thinker of my thoughts. I am a slave to them lately. I am a slave to my emotions and passions.

It is where I am right now.

I am a slave who needs to learn to be the master. Right now there is mutiny, and I can't control the slaves, they are burning down my house.

      1. It was happening in the present tense. I admitted it, threw it out there and let it go.

I have heard you say let's not confirm that in the present, before. What if it is just the truth? The only way to control it, is to affirm and redirect the thinking.

I think, if I understand you correctly, that could be a mistake. Wouldn't it just be more frustrating if it continues and you say it was just a part of the past. What about the truth? Randy, where did you come up with not confirming things in the present?

Before I confirmed it, I was a slave and a victim to it. After confirming, I may still be a slave, but not a victim. Now, I am someone solving a problem.

I believe it is the difference between hope and denial.

  8. Hi Randy

Thanks to your blog and a deep study of Napolean Hill, Wallace Wattles and James Allen I am more and more aware of what thoughts I run through my projector and am realising that truly "man is the reflection of his thoughts" (this is the french translation of the book "As A Man Thinketh")and each persons world is an echo of same. I am now working on letting go of all judgement and replacing that judgement with unconditional love.

Can you share an intimate secret with us - what are your dominant thoughts?

    Love and Gratitude,
    Hilary

PS. 6 years later I am still trying to figure out what you meant when you told me 'the only free cheese is in the mousetrap!' Any clues?

    Love and gratitude.

      1. Hmm... Only the Jedi were able to use the force in such a different way, than the average citizens. Only Jedi's get to eat cheese?

  9. Oh Guru of Prosperity, you are so evolved 🙂

For us that have not reached the state of Nirvana, we must work every minute to master being the Thinker of Thoughts.

As Ram Dass told us at the Lama Foundation at Taos.."Before Enlightenment, carrying water and chopping wood.. After Enlightenment, carrying water and chopping wood.." The work is constant and the benefits great.

Constant monitoring of thoughts in conjunction with maintaining an Attitude of Gratitude truly brings us to the Enlightened state and ushers in the abundance available. Now I simply have to keep working on this 🙂

  10. You are not your thoughts. I heard that statements throughout the decades of my training. I got that to mean that who "I" am is the observer of my thoughts. I asked you Randy if you where your thoughts. Your answer came crystal clear: you are the thinker of your thoughts.
Now what I got is: I "am" not my thoughts. "I" am the one thinking them.
    It's been very liberating since.
We speak of living by the fundamental values purpose, reason, and self-esteem as Ayn Rand did.
Reasoning occur as what one mind does. The thoughts we have could also be viewed as not belonging to the individual. They are picked uo from collective consciousness. But then again one thought must as I see it have an origin. Man has a thinking faculty.

Love and Respect - Pierre Leyssac, cph

  11. My mind is the machine that built my destiny.
The key is perseverance and discipline.

  12. "I'm a Thinker and I Think Thinks." JoJo from Whoville, Dr. Seuss

Your article reminds me of that saying. I do consciously disengage from most modern-day news and gossip. I find it very distracting. It doesn't serve me.

    Thanks for the message.

  13. Randy - have you read much development Psychology.... like Robert Kegan or Susanne Cook-Greuter? They have researched adult development and the stages people go through in consciousness...

Telling some people to be the thinker of the thought - for some - is like a baby to run when they can't yet crawl. They aren't aware that the thought is there - its just having them. Just like the baby isn't aware that the arms flinging about are theirs.

    xox

    1. Yes that is true, some may not even be aware of the thoughts, or aware of others thoughts and how they preceive them.

However, stage theories don't explain everything. I think stages are more fluid and don't always follow in neat order. Sometimes people are in several different stages at once, or cycling through stages at different rates. Also, returning to old stages and then going on again to more advanced stages.

By the way who were the subjects?

Perhaps, Randy's feeling is those on this particular site can take this information at any stage, and use it when they are ready.

  14. What constitutes an original thought?

How would one know if their thought is of original context or influenced by past programming?

I don't think that is the question to be in.

The most powerful line of your post, in my opinion, isn't "being a Thinker of Thought."

The most powerful line is "you must understand and obey the law of your being."

Knowing your value system and the context by which you live your life is THE guidance system to navigate the endless barrage of external influence.

Find you. Be You. Be You in the biggest way possible!

  15. I humbly disagree.

Enlightenment cannot come from thoughts or thinking.

It can only come from meditation - which is an _absence_ of thought.

    Namaste!

  16. This Is where true success is found. Well It is really evident in most of your posts. I know see how true abundance can really be created.. I must say It took me a Solid 7 Months to find, 15 hours per day Everyday. Looking for where true power could be found and what infinite intelligence and the subconscious was all about.. I think now that they are somewhat the same thing.. and this is really where you design your life. not in conscious thought.. it ALL stems back to law of attraction and creating everything.. Thats where living is.. Its about applying and manifesting and choose everything now from here on out.. my choice.. This is going to Change Everything.. Am I in the BalLpark Randy? I feel like I really am. I know this is where its created In the mind first.. My condition mind still seeks approval though.. Something that I can do away with when manifesting the new life and create the exact life I lead. 🙂

  17. As always deep insights from Randy, thanks!!

Makes me think of one of the most common sayings/misunderstandings here in Denmark (even with inspiration from the Bible I think):
    "Thoughts are free"
    - they are NOT!!!

You definitely ARE (and GET) what you think!!!

Thats why my business is called:

    Think In New Areas
(the acronym for me/my given name 😉

  18. "To reach enlightenment, you must know the nature of thought, and understand and obey the law of your being. You must be the thinker of thought."

Could one way of approaching the question of the nature of thought be to ask what is the elements of thought? They are patterns right? It could be words. It could be shapes. It could be sounds. It could be....
The big must in getting rich as taught are IDEAS. Someones elses idea? Could be. But even better: your own idea. Origin of thought.

In this community I find it relevant to explore the source. Largest religion I understand suggests words where chanelled from not-earthly entity forming the holy scripture.
Reason and rational thinking applied brains only combines the elements of thought. What do you think?

Love and Respect - Pierre Leyssac, cph

  19. Hey Randy, love your stuff, I just wanted to ask where does the actuall "action" part come here? You speak a lot about mindset and consciousness, but I guess there is no manifestation without action, don't you think?

  20. I don't know who said this:

"You don't have to believe everything you think."

That realization has transformed my life by emphasizing I can choose to reinforce specific thoughts, and I can ignore (or be amused) by other thoughts.

  21. One should want to know the Thinker behind all thoughts.
What is the background in which all thoughts are written.
Tis not I that thinks, but tis he. The mind is but instrument of his...
    Paul Lake

  22. The thinker is the thought. The "Me" is not separate from the "thought". They are one and the same. I repeat, The thinker is the thought.

  23. @Tina Jonasen  You are not waht you think. If it so, there is a division between the thinker and the thought. Do you see that? "You" are not different from thought itself. There is no thought thinking thoughts.

  24. @Mohan the thinker is obviously not the thought. the thinker is prior thought, when you KNOW that you're about to intend to THINK about something, is a proof. You are the thinker prior the thought. consciousness itself.
