The Shocking Truth of Imposter Syndrome

Posted By: Randy GageJune 15, 2021

Let’s get this out of the way up front: If you don’t ever feel like an imposter, then you really are an imposter.

Why?

Because any true thought leader, agent of change, or someone attempting to make a positive difference should feel like an imposter every now and again.  And if you don’t, it’s because you’re phoning it in, regurgitating conventional beliefs, and playing it safe.  Because doing work that matters is challenging and ripe for self-doubt.  And because when you’re doing your best work, you’re stretching yourself and attempting things you’ve never done before.

Of course you’re going to have moments of fear and doubt.  Walk toward them, because the real breakthroughs – both for you and those that follow you – are on the other side of that doubt.

The imposter you see in the mirror isn’t evidence that you’re posing as something you’re not.  It’s evidence that you’re not willing to keep posing as someone less than you truly are.

Peace,

- RG
