The Question to Ask…

Posted By: Randy GageDecember 29, 2011

This is always my favorite and most productive week of the year.  Most people go into hibernation this week, so there’s a lot less phone calls, email and distractions.

That makes it a great time for creative projects like website designs, copywriting, crafting a new keynote or seminar, writing a book, or other projects.

But when you do projects like these, there often aren’t any rules, or sometimes even guidelines, to go by.  You have to make them up as you go.

So how do you know if you’re on the right track?  What benchmarks can you use to make sure you’re doing the very best you are capable of?  Ask yourself one simple question…

Is it EPIC?

  1. BTW, there were some glitches with this new livefyre platform for the comments yesterday, but they assure us they are fixed now. It should give you lots more interaction options. -RG

  3. That's just what I'm mostly doing this week. I'm actually hiring talent to help me fine tune my website and my personal marketing materials with that exact same goal - I want it to be EPIC!

  5. This is a great question about benchmarks.. Since I'm working on development of a film project and have never done one before, this poses are particularly interesting question. I have set goals to lock down many of the interviews and connections we'll need by mid January and am working on an outline. And yes, this project is EPIC since it's purpose driven and poses a question that will get the viewer to think differently. So I guess the benchmarks are clear. It's always fun going into unknown territory; it's where we learn what's possible and more!

  7. Great post, Randy! And very timely! I'm in the process of publishing my first e-book this week; hardly epic in itself, but it's the first step in the most EPIC adventure I've ever attempted. Bring it on, 2012!

  9. Hmmmmmmmm...does everything have to be "Epic" and who defines "Epic"? A better question may be, on a variation of a quote from Mother Teresa, is it done with "Epic" love?

  11. It always amazes me how the universe brings everything together. I was sending an email to my life guide, and I told him to get ready it is going to be an Epic year! When I wrote Epic, I thought cool that is not a word I usually use and sent off the email. I switch over to twitter, and to this blog where you speak of Epic. In 2012, I believe there will be a new awareness or maybe an awakening that will take place in people. So here is my thought, If we all do what we believe into Epic proportions that will create the awareness and or awakening in people. Just, a thought Lori

  13. Love the word Epic. Reminds me of battling dragons, saving damsels. Epic stories feed legends. I believe Epic is a great yardstick to live by. Either go big or go home!

  15. Ditto, Randy. This is my breather week to take a step back and work on my business, instead of just in it. While I love being with clients, it's refreshing to have a week with more solitude so I can plan how to serve them better.

  17. Being EPIC in the end is some goal or result for sure, but this includes quite some other puzzle pieces to get there. But without a goal there is no start, so thanks for pointing at the light of the end of the creative tunnel today - like your topics very much - of course, wouldn´t visit otherwise ;o)

had to pick a synonym to show-up which isn´t my classic style, but my "name" was taken already - at livefyre - which makes it again creative and: that´s good! 🙂

    HAPPY NEW YEAR! ! ! !

  19. It is a great question,and i want to ad some questions;
How long are we going to wait until we ask that?
I Did some things in life i thought was epic, but they were not.not for me...in My life.
So WHO is going to decide that?
I Did something recently which was defenetly not epic in anyway BUT it could be the best thing i have Ever done in My life, for ME.
What we Do Can sometimes look like Low class crazyness, and turn out to be the best thing Ever
Or look like grandiosest greatiness. But don't ad anything at all.
What Shall something Do to our life, our lifework,to be worthy.because epic is not always the thing to be!

  20. Randy,as the New Year is almost upon us and I assume you have made New Year Resolutions.I made 18! Not all will be completed in 2012 but the majority will.I'm curious to know how many you have made and if you post yours,l will post mine!! Happy New Year Randy.God bless you and yours.

  35. Ask a teenager for their definition, mine use the word EPIC when no other teen slang will work for THE most awesome, THE funniest, THE most monumental.

  37. I know that I'm on the right track when I can continue to focus on it after 3 months. And when there are response from the people that I'm supporting, that got me going.

There isn't any standard to start with but raise the current standard as I go along. The first e-Report that I wrote wasn't very nice or up to standard. When I looked at my recent e-Report, it has been very different from the 1st one that I created 5 years ago. Improved as we go along, 1% at a time.
