The Philosophy for Manifesting Prosperity

Posted By: Randy GageMarch 25, 2010

We talked in yesterday’s post about the logical extension of your beliefs.  And whether they would form a congruent philosophy if you weave them together and extend them to their logical conclusion.  This is more important to your happiness and prosperity than you may know…

I used the example of the seemingly harmless and benevolent idea that the government should legislate wheelchair access in all private businesses.

The problem comes from the little Mom and Pop businesses and start-ups that might not have the resources to do this.  And the bigger issue of keeping congruent with people with other disabilities.

Then you need a website with all audio files for blind people. Speech recognition technology for those without limbs or paralyzed who can’t operate the keyboard.  Wheelchair ramps to your roadside hot dog stand.  A signer for the deaf at every seminar.  Note takers for people who can’t write.

The point is this.  The idea of your benevolent government ensuring that everyone has wheelchair ramps sounds good, looks good, and looks good on paper.   But if you extend it out in a consistent and logical way – you can see that the idea is quite flawed.  In order for no one to be discriminated against, you have to cover all the possible disabilities.

And all of a sudden the cost for your little website is now $50,000 instead of $800.  So now the cost of opening a Shaklee or AVON distributorship goes from a few hundred dollars to north of $75,000.  Suddenly it takes $25,000 to open a baby-sitting or pet walking business. Your dream of having your own little one-person business now requires five people to comply with government discrimination laws.

The price becomes prohibitive, and innovation, progress and free enterprise are choked to death.  There are fewer businesses to choose from, competition is stymied, and everyone – including disabled people – has a smaller selection and pays more.  The very idea, which was designed to help you, actually hurts you.

So what do we do with those disabled people?

Will they have no restaurants to eat in, no hotels to sleep in, and no restrooms to relieve themselves in?  Of course not.  The market will adapt to serve them.  Because it’s just good business to provide for them.  Here’s the analogy…

Once upon a time, there were no hotels that allowed pets.  Then someone had a great idea.  They opened a hotel that accepted them.  Then other people followed suit, because they realized that there is a large market of people who want to travel with their furry friends.  Pretty soon others were publishing directories listing all the places around the world.  A whole cottage industry was born.

The same thing happened about 15 years ago with hotels for non-smokers.  (A few years from now, they’ll probably be doing the same thing for smokers.  Provided your government doesn’t make it illegal to operate a hotel that allows smoking, as many already have done.)

In other words, if you let free enterprise loose without all the government restrictions, requirements, and regulations – the market place will reach its own level of taking care of people.

But you only discover that if you look beyond your first knee-jerk reaction, see beyond the emotion, and extend things out to their logical conclusion.

If you’ve been following my work awhile, then you have been exposed to many of the prosperity principles I teach.  But they won’t make sense and work for you unless you live by a coherent philosophy.

So how about your beliefs?  Do they check out?  Do you have a logical philosophy you live by?  Think about it.

Now just to make sure you understand the philosophy, and are really operating from a prosperity consciousness, let me give you a little test...

I think all businesses should be allowed to discriminate against anyone they want!  If they want to put a sign in the window that says, “We don’t serve fags,”  “Blacks not allowed,” “No Service to Redheads,” “If You Have Blue Eyes Stay Away” or “We don ‘t serve Asians,” I have no problem with that. And if you have prosperity consciousness and believe in human rights – you would agree with me!

So cook that around and share your comments below.    Next post I’ll explain why this is the only rational, logical approach to true prosperity for all.

  1. When I read that last paragraph, it did not fell good at all! But then I thought, hey, I'll serve all the redheads, fags, blacks, asians and blue eyes and make it right. It'll even make me rich!

    Thanks:)

  2. Its a controversial post, but I follow your logic. The government shouldn't "Force" anyone to do things to their businesses. If people decide to do what they want, and exclude other races, etc from their businesses, the vacuum that's left can be filled by others who want to add value. So there's order in chaos.
But I guess most people will get very emotional, and won't be able to logically reason it through, the way it should be....although I do not subscribe to discrimination in any form.

Im joining Agel btw as a result of your presentation in AMS which I missed, and also I have been looking for an opportunity for ages....my goal is to be a double diamond director, and its nice saying it out loud..

    Cheers!

  3. I agree with you totally! If some stupid business person wants to put up signs like that, it is his choice if he wants to destroy his business because of his prejudices. His attitude will hurt his business in the long run, and I’m sure that all the redheads, fags, blacks, Asians and blue eyes would rather take their business to a place where they are loved and appreciated so he’s doing them a favor by letting them know his small thoughts.

It hurts me that there are people like that in the world, but the truth is there are. There’s not much we can do about it except live our lives congruent with our beliefs.

  4. HI Randy,
Wow it's been awhile since I posted! Crazy busy lately. Anyway, you are right on about the discrimination thing in that last paragraph. It is a knee jerker at first but when you think about it, most businesses will not discriminate just because it's bad for business. You know that rule in business of 250? Piss off one customer and they tell 250 of their friends. Talk about not good for business!

I have been working part-time for David's Bridal since Dec. to help my situation so I can afford to do network marketing etc. It does not say anywhere on the application that they will not hire a man as a consultant but they clearly discriminate against men in the Bridal business (on the consultant end). Why? Because I don't know of any woman that is going to be willing to be in a closed dressing room half naked with a male consultant. Gay or straight. It's not gonna happen. So, all of the consultants are female. No one has complained yet!

Just thought I would share that. I love how you always get everyone thinking.

    Have a great day Randy.
    Lucinda (The Opera Diva)

Hey, when are you going to visit Denver again?

  5. Good comments Lucinda - though your data on angry customers telling 250 people is way out of date. When the "United Breaks Guitars" video went up 3,000,000 saw it within 10 days. These days the rippling effect of reported experiences is literally without limit. Unfortunately, because the world feeds on misery and negativity, a video on how an airline delivered the guitar safely would be seen by no one.

  6. WOW. Just like Patricia, my first 'reaction' was to say, 'no! That's not right!'

And, like Patricia, after a few moments of thinking about it I then thought, well, it wouldn't be ME refusing service to the people based on race, religion, gender, etc.

At the same time, it would give me the freedom to tell people to get out of my establishment without the threat of being sued.

It definately gives people the true freedom to operate their business as they choose, which is the basis of a free market. Whether we agree with those personal choices or not, ti actually frees the 'free' market.

    Great thought provoking post, today.

    With Gratitude,

    Jhanna

  7. Because I am a black man - KNEE JERK, KNEE JERK!! Yet, because I have a prosperity consciousness I IMMEDIATELY got where you were taking me ... free enterprise and the marketplace WHEN PROPERLY REGULATED rights any wrongs. Heck "Black Wall Street" from years ago would not have existed if discrimination and Jim Crow was not there. The nation's majority Black universities and colleges would not be here. Hell, the entire industry of blacks and other minorities creating marketplaces that served their communities would not have existed save not for discrimination.
From fire and ashes can only the Phoenix arise!

  8. Excellent point...free enterprise IS the way. And "free" does include the freedom to discriminate, or not.

The only point to be careful about is when "Free Enterprise" gets used as a catch phrase (much like corporate america has done with the term "green"). Do you know the meaning of "Economic Hit Men"? You know, the one's who bring "Free Enterprise" to countries...(on behalf of the corporations that want to do business or use resources from that region)???

If not, do some research into it. When "Free Enterprise" is crammed down the throat of a nation with a gun, it's not so pleasant to those living in that nation. Don't take my word for it ask any people from the Southern Cone or Indonesia or (the list goes on) who've had a corporate sponsored dictator put in place, how much they've enjoyed "Free Enterprise" being thrust upon them. (It would much different if those people had the freedom to CHOOSE free enterprise).

  9. Randy, you never cease to enliven people's minds, and that is a difficult task in itself. As several readers have noted, most people respond emotionally, rather than rationally, to discriminating comments (or anything for that matter). I think free enterprise allows us the freedom to discriminate, although some tact is often required. If you feel that it is not financially or socially important for your business to provide wheelchair ramps, you are essentially posting a sign that says something to the effect of "No Cripples Allowed." This of course creates a market for businesses that cater to handicapped persons. When I first went into business for myself, I made the mistake of not discriminating. Consequently, I ended up exhausted, trying to educate idiots, motivate the lazy, and convince the poor that they wanted to be rich...wasted effort. I now clearly discriminate, and I am proud to be in an industry that allows such discernment. Thanks for your thought-provoking post Randy and all of your valuable information.

  10. While the example in the last paragraph may seem extreme, I get the logic behind it. In reality posting such limitations would cause alot of stir, hostility, reactions one way or the other. Then I think people just adapt, and sooner or later these same "outlandish" ideas get caught up into American folk culture and end up being poked fun at in cartoons like Family Guy or on Saturday Night Live. I would honestly rather HAVE someone tell me I can't go into such and such a place or they won't serve me than have my GOVERNMENT tell me! I think government should stay out of the private sector and allow free enterprise to recognize and meet the actual demands of a society and economy that CAN rebound if the lawmakers stay the heck out. Laws are there for a reason, but further constrictions and adaptations imposed upon businesses only choke the entrepreneur. I am always willing to help a handicapped or special needs person. Always. But the same laws set in place to protect them have actually hindered me in opening two different businesses at two different times because of the potential incurred expenses at installing a handicapped accessible elevator, bathrooms etc. not to mention the associated pain in the ass city inspections that are needed and cause even more pain. It's exactly as Randy says....

  11. Randy, you are right on. As a non-smoker, I love to eat at restaurants that are non-smoking. But, when it came up in our local election to ban smoking, I voted against it. It should be the restaurant owners choice, not mine.

The entitlement attitude in our country is out of control. By getting what people think they want, or what they think they deserve, they are giving freedom. Our choices always have consequences especially when the choice is to turn over responsibility to someone else.

As far as a place to banned redheads or blacks, I think it's great that they have the freedom to do that. Because I personally am not bothered by redheads and blacks, I would probably not eat there just like if a restaurant didn't allow smokers, I would choose to eat there, if their food and service was good, not just because they ban smokers.

We could even take it further and say that an employer should not have to give you benefits, i.e., vacation time, health insurance, sick leave, minimum wage. If they don't have what you are looking for, work somewhere else. If they can't find people to work for them that have the skills they are looking for, then they might offer these things to get more skilled people to come work for them.

Whereas another company might include all of these things plus having a cook that prepares lunch for everyone each day as a perk and allowing employees to take breaks in the totally decked out break room with games, TV, and work out equipment. People would be beating down the door to work somewhere like that--if that's what they're looking for.

The US government was not designed to mandate and control everything. It was settled by people trying to get away from too much government control and yet 250 years later, we are going back to old ways. Is this what the majority really want? How can we educate and change these mentally ingrained behaviors? It's overwhelming.

Isn't it interesting how being negative, sad, angry, and blaming others takes little effort and therefore is easy to do vs. being positive, happy, calm, and taking personal responsibility takes effort. So, of course, over time, people have taken the easy way out.

Randy, thanks for speaking your mind. It often causes me to review my beliefs and see if I'm forcing them on others. Keep up the good educating.

  12. We already tried your ideas. Blacks did all the manual work as slaves while the rich whites in their asses in the U.S.
Women were property of men in the 9th century.
Your assumption is that if we discriminated against one, then that person would created a place for those people to eat,go to school and prosper runs in contradiction to the reality of Human history.

  13. Hey everyone. I just read the above post and I too was initially shocked at what Randy wrote in the second to last paragraph. But after some thought I understand Randy's philosophy and believe that we should let the markets decide and create.

  14. Randy, I was keeping up with you til I got to that last paragraph. We had restaurants, water fountains, bus systems, clothing stores, supermarkets, etc. that did blatantly state who and who wasn't allowed to come in and receive the services. Fast forward some years, although many establishments would truly love to not allow many races and genders into their place of business they do so now because of civil rights and anti-discrimination laws and not because they want to. Look at the several neighborhoods here in NY. Depending upon where you are no sign has to be written for one not to know they are clearly NOT wanted in the establishment or the entire neighborhood for that matter. I'm talking specifically about race here although your statement encompasses waaaay more than just race. But as always, I do want to see what your reasoning is for that statement and what it has to do with beliefs and prosperity. All of your information (all that I have read) has been thought provoking. I stay reading the topics on this blog and have learned a great deal. This is a mind opener. I really am looking forward to the follow up on todays writing. Until then . . . . . . .

  15. Randy you are a very interested guy. I Love It!! You are absolutely right when you build a business you should have the right to choose whom you want to serve. It's really the Broke people, who TRY to mess it up for the Wealth Magnets. Randy sometime when we have an opportunity to meet maybe we can break bread.

Continue to Prosper My Friend, the World is Watching.

  16. Another great post Randy. Your right on with supply and demand. Business will serve anyone if the demand is there and they can produce a supply solution that makes a profit or at least breaks even.

  17. Great one today, Randy. It's so great to experience the ideas of possible business niches as these 'limitations' exist. The opportunistic mindset allows for wealth to be created. Thank you for the expansion your provoke!
    -John

  18. How about "Separated but Equal"? Did you really think schools for blacks in the South received the same founding as the white schools in 1959 in Alabama?

Do you really think there was a level playing field in the Deep South? of course not. We all know that.

  19. Interestingly, while what you are saying seems harsh at first thought. Once you get past the audacity, it does seem like people are given more of a fair shot at supporting those in business they know, like and trust. I personally would refuse to knowingly do business with a person who would hang a sign like that. Having the sign there is a perfect indicator for me of a place to stay away from. Without the sign, I might inadvertantly do business with someone I abhore and thereby support an attitude I didn't like but that would have been hidden from my view.

  20. What does "Free" means?

The insurance companies can denied and terminated your policy once you got sick.
Eight person died from salmonella poisoning because in the "Free Market" nobody was inspecting the farms. A peanut farmer in Georgia, grinding peantus with cockroaches to increase his profits.
A sugar plant exploded in Georgia because it has never been inspected killing 10 persons.
British Petroleum did not maintained his refinery properly. It exploded killing 5 workers.
And now we see Toyota trying to saved $100 millions by sub-contracting his brakes manufacturing. Ten people have died due to their error. It is going to cost Toyota $3 billions or so to settled the class action lawsuits.
We are spending $8 billions to restore the Everglades destroyed by the Sugar Companies in the name of creating jobs,Free Enterpresie and Personal Responsability.
In Florida, there are $12 billions in tax-loopholes for the corporations created by Republicans for the cronies friends. We have legalized corruption-- if you raise ostriches,-you don't have to pay sales tax but if you raise chickens you pay.
The assumption in Free Enterprise is that there is an equal opportunity for everyone and that is the case in NM but not between an individual and a corporation.

  21. Tricky question. i know of a Afrocentric place where whites aren't allowed, forgetting this i took one of my white friends who wanted to learn why some blacks always talked about slavery and history of being discriminated against, we got to the door they let me in and told him he could not come in. He cried, was angry and to this day is upset about it. so when the tables are turned understanding happens, same anger same frustration. i understand your freedom of enterprise, but very tricky and you already have many places that discriminate today, like golf clubs. That means a Black person and open up a golf course and say no whites allowed, ha Tiger Woods would not even come. LOL

  22. Hi, Randy
I am used to live and see the differences in people and things.
and this teaches you what is adaptation and learn how to flow with your surroundings and your creations. I think that prosperity has much to do with your mindset.
Thoughts, beliefs and culture that you have grown up.
So....a lot of work to do with oneself every thing comes from inside
    and manifest outside.

    thanks
    isa

  23. As a UK resident I have had 15 years of a nanny state, where the government thinks it knows best and tries to control every aspect of its citizens lives. Allowing businesses to chose who they will cater for doesn't mean that they will discriminate, unless they're foolish. Think about this, government decrees that business owners must employ a percentage of , to the business owner, people who would ruin the business. This could be repeat offenders or drug addicts, for instance. Is that right or should they be allowed to pick employees who would help the business to thrive?

  24. Love it Randy
and yes I agree that businesses shouldn't be 'dictated' who they can/can't serve, etc.
    it's "free" enterprise! 🙂

I personally refuse to deal with time wasting stupid people in one of my businesses and have turned down many that wanted to be a consultant for one of them just because of their lack of professionalism along with common sense when on phone and emails with them!

Anyone other than those time suckers, I'll serve!

Thanks for thought provoking post (as always!)

  25. When my black friend was told the only hotel on a long stretch of freeway had no vacancy he accepted their answer. Five minutes later his white wife went in and rented a room. While I agree it's not the governments job to run our lives I am always troubled to know my fellow humans are so shallow.

  26. These are examples of abuse. They are not necessarily a result of having free enterprise itself. Those operating an enterprise have a duty to do so in a safe and ethical manner. I do agree that there should be some sort of regulations and laws made by government to ensure the saftey of the public. Unfortunately, they can't be everywhere all the time enforcing these laws. That's the reality.

  27. The principal of free will is excluded from this discuss and understand the fact that man can consciously direct his action to achieve specific objectives leads to a completely different approach.

An intelligent business man would have a better method to exclude certain kinds of customers. He would build this into his marketing mix instead of blatantly avoiding those he doesn’t want to deal with. Knowing full well he operates in reality with many various characters and posting a sign telling them to stay away will also alienate employees, suppliers and any other individuals who he must also rely on to effectively run his operation.

For example, if the restaurant owner has decided he only wants customer with green skin and one eye he would offer the food these creatures eat, he would open his restaurant in their neighbourhood and he would tailor his advertising towards them. And price his menu accordingly.

We see examples of this everywhere. Take BMW. They do want lower class clients. Their cars are not advertised in the papers read by them, nor do they open show rooms in the worst part of town. They surely don’t create fuel efficient vehicles. All the features of their strategy naturally attract some and reject others.

    Allan Lonz

  28. Let see if I can understand Randy's reasoning. While Blacks and Hispanics were dying in Europe during WWII, once they came back to the U.S.-- the capture Germans would be served at the front-- while the blacks and mexicans soldiers could not.
    Hmmm!!!
Mexicans could not attend the best Universities but they could die for their country.

  29. I actually went to a University that preferred White people and there was a big fuss made about it by some of the students. My only response was that the inmates don't run the asylum. If the governing body preferred WASPS and Europeans, then so be it. It is their school and its their right who they let in. I also said if you don't like it, go someplace else. Holy mackeral ! Was I ever the bad guy that day.

  30. Right on, Randy!

A controversial post to be sure, but the coherent philosophy holds up.

Any racist bigot who would put up such signs would INVITE COMPETITION. And the free market would respond.

Another matter about which there seems to be very little critical thinking or coherent philosophy is the matter of "rights."

Most people believe they now have a "right" to (free) healthcare and medications.

Logically, that would also mean that people have a "right" to food--it's essential to survival. And of course a "right" to clean air, which would mean that smokers then have NO rights to smoke--even outdoors in many localities. (I am not a smoker).

Of course, many folks believe we all have a "right" to free education through college--and beyond.

And we should certainly have a "right" to transportation--a car would be necessary where there is no public transportation.

At some point, all these "rights" will lead to the question of EQUALITY. People will come to believe (if they don't already) that we all have the "right" to an EQUAL education, EQUAL healthcare, EQUAL transportation, etc.

Hey---why should some "greedy rich guy" like Randy Gage drive a Bentley when I have to drive a 1984 Ford Escort? Or why should a "greedy rich guy" be able to hire a private physician when I have to wait on long lines for Obamacare?

It will be interesting to see how all of this evolves.

Thanks for being a beacon of clear thinking.

  31. I couldn't agree more.

If someone put up a sign, 'No bigots, no self righteous, no know it alls or the arrogant allowed entry." How many would be allowed in? Is it possible where we are, is the alternative?

All of us arrive, live and die alone. The ways we negotiate our way with others are with the 'flags' we raise. Most of us have one or two for truce; others for all our 'passions' and some even have stashed away a pirate flag or two. The signs of keep out, do not trespass, no XyzABC allowed entry are flags that help us stay at war and peace with each other and ourselves.

What armada will we sail with? What herd do we choose to belong? Are we a lone wolf, a Lone Ranger with one trusty companion or are we still looking for the signs that allow us entry?

  32. As long as it is private. When I first worked at this Supermarket, all the managers were whites with high school diploma. There were no Blacks and women managers even though women are 51% of the population and Blacks are 30% of the population in my town.
Let me see if I understand your logic, just because a minority of whites males think is okay to discriminated based on gender and race, then it is okay!!!

  33. Yes and in actuality, most if not all of those examples came WITH government regulation. Because I argue for a Libertarian policy does not mean it would be legal to poison or kill people, etc. Because doing so is still a violation of THEIR rights.

    -RG

  34. You are clouding the issue with emotion again, which is the exact thing I warned about yesterday. You're talking about school systems funded by tax dollars taken from everybody, versus a private cafe or beauty shop that someone would set up on their own.

    -RG

  35. I am trying to understand what you are trying to say but you will explain it tomorrow! I know for sure you are not a rascist or against people in wheelchair or anything else crazy that people without consiousness can think of. So where is the freedom, the point, the future in what you are saying? I am courious!!!I guess it has more to do with me who pass by that window where I read:We don´t want asians. Because to get real prosperity, you have to make room for it, right? And where that lack is, a room will be created where my true feeling for the real in this world can be created...

  36. i absolutely agree with your post. anyone who sees it differently is infected with the notion that government can somehow give us rights. government is not the giver of rights. your example of the disabilities act is the essence of the rule of unintended consequences.

  37. I remember waaaay back before mandatory wheelchair ramps, I'd be sitting in a restaurant, and a person in a wheelchair would approach the steps. I would almost get trampled as nearly everyone got up out of their seats in a mad rush to the door. The first four people out would each grab a corner of the wheelchair, and carry the person up the stairs, chair and all, into the restaurant. None of this dignity crap - the person in the wheelchair was always grateful, and the people doing the lifting were more than happy to help. It all happened spontaneously. People used to look out for each other. But that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

  38. Ah, free enterprise. The corporate fat cats give themselves big huge bonuses as the country crumbles around them.

Do I want to be rich? Yes. Do I want to be rich at the expense of others? No.

There just doesn't seem to be a happy medium!

  39. whoa - the mind police rushed in and there was an immediate struggle for mind equilibrium!
I deal with the mentioned A.D.A. Compliance litigation waged against small businesses on an all too regular basis. Conversely I rarely come across a person with disabilities or physical limitations who doesn't share your philosophy, Randy - 'if a business doesn't want my business, then I don't want to use their services nor buy their products'. The contrary of that are those vexatious litigants who make a living targeting the businesses who haven't caught up to the federal and state requirements - putting them out of business. A process of elimination is a process of discrimination. You cannot legislate that away for the massage of a law-makers' guilt. People with disabilities do it as well.
    Point well taken, thanks.

  40. hmm, I don't know what you are heading for. You will probably give me one of your 'aha' moment I will keep for the rest of my life. I actually read it a few times but the thing that comes to my mind is....true prosperity is about freedom of choice in all aspects of life. Live in abundance on all levels. So it is YOUR choice wether to be offended by it and how you react on it.

This post is I believe about prosperity not racism and the black and white issue, steeling peoples freedom in slavery or business opportunities. Quite the contrary so I look forward to your next post! I am cracking my brains on this one in total honesty! Let's see how my belief and prosperity mindset is and if it even slightly strokes your.

  41. True leadership absolutely requires courage, challenge and fresh free thinking. Thanks Randy. I always love the way you get into my head and poke around, stirring up the dust and breaking up any lazy neural pathways.
I live in Australia, the land of 'compassionate capitalism' or democratic socialism. We do take care, officially, of those who can't take care of themselves. Sadly, we found that their families weren't. Sadly also, of course, we now take care of those who WON't take care of themselves. And of course the government loves that, because when you are fed by the kind giant, you always vote for the kind giant.
I totally agree that business needs to be completely free enterprise. Free to open any day or night, free to employ whom they wish and serve whom they wish. It needs to be a commercial decision how to operate, not a moral, ethical or political decision. My passion is ethical and moral business. But the best morality is empowerment, not imprisonment.
    Love you
    Catherine

  42. Randy you are right on the money with this. Here in New Zealand local Government have taken this to the exact ridiculous extremes you describe. Even our local farmers markets have been stomped all over because they don't have commercial kitchens and are not in line with health regulations blah blah, these markets are being crippled when they provide a great service with fresh produce, goods being baked by lovely old Nana's who care about people. One nana who was giving a percentage of her market proceeds to a youth suicide charity was shut down because of some pea brained beaurocrat hung up on 'protecting the public' . Frankly, I want the choice to buy where I want be damned, it's my choice. Free market rocks. Government are stifling people everywhere with this crap. Good for you keep sticking it to them and waking people up with a sensible and somewhat provocative stance.Keep it up

  43. Randy:

I am giving you specific examples on what has been done in the name of "Free Enterprise" and "Personal Responsability."
I spend 15 years working for a Supermarket where all the managers were white males with a high school diploma.
Women who are 51% of the population couldn't earned more money than white males because of their gender.
The same for Blacks. In your philosophy that's okay because it is the ultimate conclusion to the idea of liberty.
I am not clouding the issue with emotions. I am giving raw, specific facts.
Life as a reality not a philosophy.

  44. You are, dear sir, 1,000% correct in your assessments about the disabled and free enterprise. Many will be shocked by your last statement and that is because we have beed droned to death by liberal do-gooders with tons of political correctness. Eventually, all people will be served in some manner if we are allowed to serve them. But when governments force us to serve others in the name of equality and fairness, it becomes next to impossible to please and cater to all. Then again, a govenment has no concern for cost in any form or fashion because, as we are seeing today, as in the past, it answers to no one.

Lets face it, politicians have no responsibility to the people they are supposed to be serving. And those whose duty it is to enforce political responsibility are mostly too busy with their daily lives to care very much about what happens in Washington. Even if we vote the rats out of office in the coming elections, our government will still be on an illogical and unsustainable spending trajectory. There are simply few people alive today with the will to make the required changes in government social-program spending. By nature, all politicians suffer from crooked-neck...that is watching their own behinds.

  45. Randy, I just love the way you write, and how you approach things and get them into our minds first, touching some issues here and there, stirring up a little, and finally getting us to think and break some old molded thoughts to newly altered beliefs or views. Thanks for being such a unique human being combined with good thoughts and emotions, love, skills, great knowledge coming from your many experiences and super intelligence. You're an absolutely fantastic person and are a great teacher/leader. I know many of us know and agree. I love ya, Randy. Hugs:: Saachi

  46. I can understand the argument about over-accommodating people with special interests, whether a handicap or a religious requirement, especially when it comes to the costs for small business.

However I do not agree applying the concept to race or sexual preferences. It creates too many ugly situations.

If I run a business and I am rational, I want to sell to everyone and not allow my emotional responses to people who are different than me affect my bottom line.

Over-accommodating lowers my bottom line, just as racism and homophobia would also.

I am just being honest here, I would not want to live in a world where racism and homophobia was accepted because the "market" will correct and other businesses would accommodate.

  47. I believe that discriminating against someone is morally wrong. It is not fair . I also believe that a person has the right to do so if they so choose. If they run a business, they have the right to sell and restrict their services however they wish.

  48. Just to add, If went into a bar in Harlem, said "hey Bro, Gimme a double" , and two bouncers came over and threw me out into the street, I would not have a problem with that.

  49. Hmmm, to me: a jerk is a jerk! It doesn't matter what color the skin, sexual orientation, hair color (even lack of hair) or physical ability. If the person is a jerk, I don't do business with them, and that includes selling my business service to him!

I am sure that somebody out there has no problem doing business with jerks! I would give you mine but I don't have any! I'm associating with the same people that you are plus the ones you don't want!

  50. If I understand the idea, each person has the right to inflict their own prejudices, discriminations and hate on others in the name of personal freedom? What was the outcome when this idea was used in other times or countries? Hitler killed millions justifying it with little more than - those people are different; it’s OK to discriminate against them; it’s actually a good thing to hate them. How many are slaughtered in Africa simply because one tribe has a “prejudice” against another tribe?
At one time in the USA the commonly accepted discrimination was women weren’t smart enough to vote and blacks weren’t even human beings. These things changed when that group got pissed off enough to decide not to take it any more leading to hotly contested legislation. Isn’t the country better because these ideas were no longer acceptable?
Randy, I strongly disagree that it is ever OK to discriminate. Not for moral, ethical or even legal reasons but because of where you end up. The idea that if I don’t like your race/color/gender … I should have the right to discriminate leads to only one place throught history when followed to its logical philosophical conclusion - you are wrong and different – I am right making me better – if I am better than you must be less – if you are less then you don’t deserve the same freedom/respect/protection … History has shown it is a frighteningly small leap from “they are different” to “lets kill them and take what they have”. Is there anywhere you have seen in your world travels that is both prosperous and practices any form of explicit discrimination?
I believe that a person has the right to believe anything they want – even if I would call that belief prejudiced or hateful – but with this right comes the personal responsibility not to inflict those beliefs on me. Don’t want me in your business – that’s your right – but it’s your responsibility to let me in anyway. Go ahead and tell me what you think of me/my kind – I don’t really care – just as long as you let me in.

  51. Your final test will certainly give rise to many arguments but only in those who forget to attach it to the real thrust of your message which is, "If you let free enterprise loose without all the government restrictions, requirements, and regulations – the market place will reach its own level of taking care of people".
That is the real message, and so very true. There would certainly be a lot more prosperous people around. How sad is it to know that by putting so many restrictions in peoples' way, so many have let themselves become afraid to realise their true greatness.

Question for you. Why did you use the word discriminate when you said "I think all businesses should be allowed to discriminate against anyone they want!".
If your suggestion to let free enterprise loose really was the status quo then there would be no discrimination.

  52. I see that all of the comments in the last paragraph were about our hot buttons..I don't believe that our government needs to regulate our everyday activities to ensure that all is fair..Will discrimination ever go away no because we are all different, Racism exists because people are different, gender discrimination exists because we all make different choices, all of these hot button topics cant be resolved because we all differ in what we believe to be important.
Something that I heard once truly works, Teach People Correct Principles and they will eventually work things out, but you must continue to teach. You gotta believe in what you teach and then respect the fact, there are others who will never accept what you teach. But thats the greatest gift we have is to choose. As we continue to allow the governments (local, Federal etc.) to pass laws to require us to do things that are best for all we lose more and more of the greatest gift we have FREEDOM.
A parenting class I once took taught about the law of consequence. The point was that eventually the consequences of our choices will turn us in a direction and we must choose whether it is right or wrong. I know that we want to help others make fewer mistakes, but forcing them to not make mistakes doesn't work. Has killing stopped because there are laws against it, How about Drunk Driving has it stopped, have we won the war on drugs after passing laws and throwing billions upon billions at the problem, Has abortion stopped, Discrimination is it gone, all of these problems still exist yet most of the change has come from Education of the masses and yet we allow education to take back seats to important issue like steroids in baseball, NFL rule changes on and on and on..
    Just a thought..

  53. I like the way the blog challenges us to think about the impact a free market can have on a society. The free market will always find a way the service the needs of the people. Yes, the last paragraph was straight forward in your face type of stuff and it may make some people sad..but as entrepreneurs what an awesome way to get wealthy..someone puts as sign up that says they won't serve this group or that group..I have the freedom to put a sign up that says I will..I believe this is free enterprise at it's best.
Thanks Randy, have a blessed day bro

  54. Today I drove by a school and saw kids playing together from different races. Leave kids on their own and racism doesn't exist. They learn racism from others.

Allowing free enterprise to practice racism would be educational to many that racism is okay. That is why it should not be tolerated.

I appreciate extreme examples to sort out the mess, however how free can free enterprise be?

Does anymore imagine truly free enterprise with no constraints. I can certainly imagine some extreme examples of what people are capable of in a 100% free enterprise system that most people would consider unacceptable.

The message "the market place will reach its own level of taking care of people" with the idea that true free enterprise would end discrimination is a bit naive.

Right now there is a huge market for "racism" and a quite profitable niche. That market would just feed itself and get bigger and bigger and influence and educate others, if not constrained.

In a prior blog post you talked about our core beliefs and to examine them.

Well my core belief is that government should be smaller; let the market place sort things out. But when I take a closer look I start to have doubts that allowing free enterprise to be 100% free may not be the answer, that there has to be some rules.

Now my core belief has evolved; free enterprise with some rules, which probably is a contradiction 🙂

And then when you start to have rules others jump on board and pass more rules until we end up with the convoluted system we have now.

As my head spins I have just one constant, that racism should never be tolerated, even in a free enterprise system.

If free enterprise, if practiced absolutely freely, would eventually sort itself out to the point that there would be no discrimination, why allow discrimination in the first place?

  55. Hey, thanks.
I was just talking about word of mouth. I won't even go into what cyberspace can do for or against one's business.
    Lucinda

  56. Now randy your sounding a little crazy. The work of Martin Luther king, Malcolm X , The civil rights movement and others had to demand equal rights. these folks died for people of color to have the right to prosper here in America. Do you know there were many prosperous Black Townships burned down by angry whites. So the idea of prosperity is excellent but if a Black mans prosperity was burned down or killed. Then that is racism gone wild. Give some respect to those who fought and died for the betterment of all. Yes you are correct we can maneuver and make a better lives for ourselves but no one needs to be discriminated against. Laws i think if you lived in a Country where Black Supremacy was the hidden agenda your words would be a little different. Certain laws are created to keep the crazies honest will the stop being crazy, no but the threat of punishment will make them go home. i could give you many examples, be careful on the racism and discrimination issue when you talk to people of color if you don;t believe blacks, asked the Native American. Yeah he has prosperous Casino's now but he once had this prosperous land. Again be careful my Brotha.

  57. Hey there Tony,

sure there would still be discrimination. I don't see the connection between freedom of choice and an individual being discriminative against another. If anything it's really just an expression of that freedom and I think that's the whole point of this blog post.

I think the whole point is if a controlling government will get out of the way and let "the market" decide what business to reward with their patronage then the market will be served very well.

remember the only way we receive money or this case let's call it business... so the only way we receive business is to add value to the collective (the market). the bigger the collective our business serves the greater we are rewarded.

so the business owner with the "no fags" sign in the window (or whatever) will really only limit themselves (their businesses) by limiting their portion of the collective or market which they can serve or add value too.

    make sense?

  58. One of the fundamentals of Randy's philosophy is that you shouldn't harm others. Giving people freedom to put a sign outside a restaurant saying no blacks, gays, or redheads doesn't really harm anyone, although some would choose to let it piss them off.

Burning down a black township is a bit different and would have no place in a prosperity mindset. That behavior could only come from fear and lack.

  59. It's that it?

Every reason from the real world is sent to you, if you don't like it, you answer with "does that serve you?". Does that means that we have to put our head in the ground about what we don't like? That's great, but for a fairytale story.

And "fags" ? Yes, I would put "No homosexual allowed", but I wouldn't put "No fags allowed" ... Don't you deny their rights by calling them that?

  60. Discrimination is a fact of every day life, wherever we are - in some places it's just a little bit more subtle than in some others. What do I care, I must be blind - can't see the difference between races, ages, sexes; can't figure how anyone could be better than somebody else. We all have the same insides.

  61. Hahahaha - that made me laugh....

Randy is TRYING to be provaoctative. He got you!

He has nothing against being gay. He's just trying to see what gets a rise in you, so you can check your beliefs.

And yes -the aim IS to see what gets you emotionally so that you can see how your emotions run you, rather than living beliefs that serve you!

  62. hey Randy..

theoretically your concept looks good.. but i'm a practical guy..

so i just want to know.. in all the locations you've traveled in the world.. did you find a place where they practiced true "free enterprise" (invariably allowing discrimination) - where people at large were happy and successful ........ and was making the society as a whole more happy and successful?

  63. By regulating everything, this kind of neighbourliness is dead! The great mass of people who do not apply critical thinking only (barely) rise to the expectations placed on them. By turning it into law, government has said: "I will see that these people are looked after" so the rest of the populace don't see the need to assist.
    Always thought provoking
    Steve

  64. Well, then what about "I'm looking for an income/business opportunity. Please don't offer MLM"?
    This is discrimination par excellence!
But - you live in a free country!
What I think is when you say beforehand that you don't offer something, it is just and fair. Sometimes people don't know what to expect. And, it's much better than to serve anyone and clench your teeths.
As a matter of fact, every business is a discrimination in a way. Because you can't serve everybody. For example, I am a medical doctor and work with homeopathy. I prefer to work with children. But I still accept adults - and often regret it. Now that I hear Randy, should I put a sign "Children only"? Yes and yes - if I believe that this is my calling and that Universe will send me enough parients because I am good enough. No - if I am in this for the money only - welcome anyone...
Same wit MLM - should I sign up all the Rednecks? Been there, done that - nothing good happens.
So you first define what and whom you want in your business and in your life. After all, you are not supposed to marry any woman that asked you.

  65. I toally agree. Government should allow the natural laws of the Universe to function without interference. It's too crazy the super abundance of rules that make no sense. I work for a "temp" service, but we have to pay unemployment when our temp jobs expire. What part of "temp" didn't they get. I should be able to decide who I hire, fire or don't service. If I have a client who doen't want a college student, but a more mature worker why would I send him a college student and make everyone unhappy. Doesn't make any business sense at all. The nautral balance will assert itself if left alone.

    GMC

  66. I'm all for people having the right to not like something. I happen to be gay, and don't expect everyone on earth to like it.

I'm curious to see what people think about this, as this is a tad different from race. It's about who you are intimate with.

Is a gay man wanting the civil rights a heterosexual couple have considered entitlement?

Tired of the government being involved in that too.

    P.S.

Reading Atlas Shrugged right now. Amazing book.

Love the fact it says that without innovation the world is basically screwed. (Seems to be something that some of the corporations have forgotten about, that and people).

  67. u r very right Randy. i do business with u if i like and trust u. now if for any reason u don't want my business, my money, my service, because i am black, or green, great! i shouldn't be forced down your throat by some legislation. the day u want me and my kind of people for business, that's the day u've opened up to enlarge your business. that's the day u demonstrate u've grown up!
but trust, someone else, somewhere else, wants, almost desperately, to do business with me and my group....

  68. Well, well, well... lookie what we have here....!

You know, if one business or even a group of them, chose to discriminate against dogs, Asians or glue sniffers (for e.g..) etc., there will probably be another that will spring up to cater to this segment of people. Free enterprise is what gives entrepreueur-type people an impetus to study markets and identify niches to target with potential solutions.

And what happens when a solution offered to a problem is accepted by others casting 'buy' votes???

    Prosperity...

  69. "Democracy during the 200 years or so that it lasts, as seen from history, shows us a nation always progresses through the following sequence:

    1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
    2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
    3. From courage to liberty;
    4. From liberty to abundance;
    5. From abundance to complacency;
    6. From complacency to apathy;
    7. From apathy to dependence;
    8. From dependence back into bondage"

Which phase do you see the USA in currently?

  70. Reading a blog written by Randy is so very refreshing. The fact that you can take something as basic as "Free Enterprise" and show how it is your Universal Right to do business with whoever you chose and however you want without government involvement is absolutely correct. The problem that disturbs many with your last paragraph is the truth when exposed hurts. Thank You for keeping us mentally fit. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  71. If I'm discriminated because of my color then they're the one's missing out, not me. Who knows, I could spend thousands there. Their loss I guess.

  72. Well I'm quite willing to comment it right away, but in fact I have to read the whole text again, then I'll think it in French which is my mother language, and also translate it in spanish for my organization which mostly stands in Colombia, and finally leave you a comment in English. Hope not beeing too long. Thank's anyway. Have a nice day.

      1. From bondage to spiritual faith;
      2. From spiritual faith to great courage;
      3. From courage to liberty;
      4. From liberty to abundance;
      5. From abundance to complacency;
      6. From complacency to apathy;
      7. From apathy to dependence;
