The Not So Simple Pleasures

Posted By: Randy GageNovember 18, 2009

In a recent post we talked about appreciating the simple pleasures in life.  But there is a danger in that.

Affirming a lack-centered beliefs…

Because growing up, you were probably programmed against money.  And that it is somehow noble or spiritual to be poor.  And nothing could be further from the truth…

So it is great to appreciate simple pleasures like a sunset, a rainbow, or a kitten at play.  But that does not diminish the joy that can come from the finer things in life…

The delight of sitting in the Paris or Met Opera and listening to one of the world’s greatest tenors…

The exquisite pleasure from owning a finely crafted timepiece…

The feel of wearing a pair of custom made shoes, a bespoke suit, or handcrafted shirt…

The thrill of turning the key and hearing a 500-horsepower engine roar to life…

Things like this can also provide contentment, gratification and happy times to your life.  So appreciate the simple pleasures.  But don’t program yourself against attaining the not so simple ones.

Never say things like, “A car just takes you from point A to point B,”  “It’s only money,” or “The simple pleasures are the only important ones.”

There are some not so simple – and not so inexpensive pleasures – that can bring a lot of joy to your life.

  1. Well said Randy,

It's one of my beliefs that one of the major reasons some rich people get depressed is because they think their is nothing left - they already have it all.

Being grateful for everything you have...even if it's something you're already used to...is one of the greatest skills you can develop in my opinion!

  2. Great post!!! After losing everything, I struggle with getting back to the position I was in a few years ago when I owned a couple of condos in Florida and traveled frequently with my family to great resorts. Thanks for helping me get away from the lack mentality.

  3. Thanks for pointing out something which is so subtle.

Pricing "nature" stuff higher than "acquired" stuff can be a reflection of lack programming!

We should celebrate both without one invalidating or somehow devaluing the other by comparison.

  4. That's true Randy!
Many people were scheduled for thinking that enjoy expensive pleasures is vanity also consider a waste of money.

  5. Amen! I love the simple pleasures, but you're absolutely correct. The mediocre masses have access to them as well (not a bad thing), but only the top 2%'ers get to experience the additional pleasures of the 'not so simple'.

  6. I agree, It's a balance in appreciating all that is around us, and finding the joy it can ignite within us. For me it's an understanding that it's all part of a whole.

Every thing in our lives from the roof over our heads to the diamond ring on your finger, to the food on your table is an energy that is a part of us. It was in understanding that each and everyone one of us are creators that we are able to gently release the previous programming.

Learning to receive is as important and learning to give. !

  7. I couldn't agree more. I'm absolutely positive, that the most expensive hotel in Dubai was built for me to visit it with the whole family and friends. There we will enjoy all the simple pleasures as well...

    Love, Natasaha

  8. I receive daily affirmations from Alan Cohen, and recently he sent this one out..

"Everything you buy, think, say and do is a statement of what you believe you are worth"

I printed this out and posted it several places as a reminder.

Right now I'm in the process of uncovering purpose and destiny in order to create a vision for my Life. And part of this vision is infinite Abundance which is what you refer to here. I have never felt a car is simply a device to get me from A to B. In fact, it's my intention to have a stable of them, along with all the other amazing luxuries available to us.

So yes, acknowledging the beauty in the simple things is important as is allowing ourselves to receive what's available without limit.

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

  9. Great post Randy! It reminds me of the quote by Tony Robbins,

"Life will pay whatever price you ask of it." We can enjoy either the smaller things, or the bigger things, or both! It's all dependent on what we think about and what messages we're sending out.

  10. Hello, I write first time comment in here Randy's blog. One of my success plan is I learn how to write English.

  11. Randy,

You are write on point. I love to travel and even though, I do appreciate living by the beach, I'd actually like to own a house on the beach in the near future, preferrably by December 1st, 2010. 🙂 In order for the Universe to deliver everything we want, we need to be specific about what we want. Why not ask the Universe for luxurious beauties, such as diamonds, fancy cars, houses on the beach or in the Swiss Alps. Simple pleasures are nice, but not so simple pleasures are much sweater. 😉

    Thanks for this reminder, Randy.

    All the Best,

    Katerina

  12. ABSOLUTELY!!! Life is worth living and living WELL! It's not just about life, it's about lifestyle, and the more 'style' the better.

  13. "There are some not so simple -and not so inexpensive pleasures -that can bring a lot of joy to your life. "
=>Dreaming & being open to receiving dreams 🙂

  14. I am happy that now I understand such things! Some time ago I even thought that I didn't need the car at all!! It's very funny for me right now :))) And, honestly, now, I am being proud, that I know what is like my dream-car. And my wife fully support me -- she want the same car, but another colour 🙂 So, we decided to buy two cars, but different colours 🙂 Now I am absolutely sure that we will own that cars (expensive for us right now). I have some new, agitating feelings about this car, when I look over it pictures, but previously I couldn't even imagine that I would think about any car like this. Few years ago I thought that it is childishly to dream about cool sport cars, which is so much expensive, because there are things more important! 🙂 But now I think in another dimension of things and it makes me glad and little wondered at the value of my changes. I so happy, that my wife and I have drew big Prosperous Attracting Plan and put on all things and situations we want be happened in our life! We have felt how strongly it brings us closely to our dreams! Now we see how it is important to do this plan!

    Thank you Randy.

  15. Well, to drill your emotions with power words like this . . . turn the key and hear 500 horsepower sound, roar to life . . . is very awesome, in deed. What could be more live than enjoying your life with passion and emotional things?

People who have been up and down, seen a lot, they can humble and enjoy both - the pure asahi and mentioned pleasures in life.

P.S. To drive with convertible at Miami highway, listen power 95 from the radio, feeling good, Heye Lewis singing, been tanned and now going (roaring) and driving to the night. Awesome. These memories coast me 1986 about 2.000 USD, but I still have pictures from that trip at my office with over 30 years of sales experience. My choice for You: - live the life!

  16. Oops... I often find myself saying "it's only money"... but I mean in the sense that there's more where that came from.... am I still limiting myself?

  17. Hey Randy, money isn't everything , ya know 😉

I'm still trying to figure out the term, "Pamper yourself." The problem is that I picked it up from people with every little money. So they saw a day in the spa as a luxury, I view it as normal.

Life should be enjoyed. Big things, small thing, and everything in between. We were designed to have it all but the idea of 'practicality' gets in the way.

  18. I am getting daily reminders of the importance of dreams and being open to receiving your dreams.
I see people struggling but they don't want to change because they are comfortable where they are, they have lack programming, they fear change or fear losing what they have. I chose to remind myself of this but not to accept it.

  19. I love this. It is difficult to express appreciation for this things to others as you always hear why it is evil. Most of the time I keep it to myself and have learned to appreciate these things in silence. Especially if you are around family!!

  20. -RG,

I get it-about the expensive suits, cars, etc.

Yet, if we keep learning and expanding our minds and realize that in an infinite universe that money is also infinite it may take on other form that we don't know of yet, but still infinite.

Therefor those "expensive" things are really not.

  22. What u say is absolutly true, in my case, I just love the little things, of course I will love the luxuries as much but can't u just love them both, sometimes when people start enjoying the luxury they forget the little things, but those who can love both, enjoy them and thank god for all of it every single day are the ones who will always appreciate what they have. LIFE!!! so in good times or badtimes if u look at it really, there are always beautiful things to experience and live!!!
