The Little-Known Secret to Business Success…

Happy Freakin’ Friday!

Here’s your weekly postcard with an idea about something I’m thinking about – and believe you should as well.  Today that topic is success. More specifically:

The Little-Known Secret to Business Success…

The picture above is a step-and-repeat from the Turkish Airlines lounge at MIA where I started writing this post.  That pic offers some fascinating insights into the travel experience today.  (And lead us to the success “secret” just mentioned.)  It's inconceivable to imagine one of the U.S. or most other carriers offering a photo opportunity like that, because who would want to post a photo from their dingy, dreary, overcrowded lounges? Turkish is one of the three or four airlines left in the world that actually see the people who fly on their planes as valued customers. Most other carriers view the credit card companies they sell miles to as their customers, and the passengers as a huge irritation and inconvenience.

Now that I’ve completed the whole trip with them, I need to tell you about their friendly service, attention to detail, and level of comfort.  (If you know someone who works for them, please share this post with them.) There’s actually a chef with a chef hat preparing the meals on board the long-haul flights.  Can’t remember seeing that for about 20 years. The food is tasty, there’s quality Wi-Fi, great entertainment system, clean, properly stocked bathrooms, and their Business cabin is better than what most airlines pass for First Class.  Even the short-haul flights (70 minutes) had three feet of space between rows and they served a hot meal.  The planes included pillows and blankets. All taken together, their in-flight experience brings back the days when air travel was, dare I say it, fun and glamorous.  Another huge differentiation for them is their airport lounges…

Both Miami and Sofia, Bulgaria where I used them are not hub operations for Turkish.  But their lounges were bright, friendly, well-stocked, and comfortable.  You really can relax before your flight.  And the lounge at Istanbul, which is their main hub, is spectacular.  Every food and drink option imaginable, including a popcorn cart and a hot pretzel one. (By the way, this was all at 1 am.)  Piano in the entrance.  Probably holds 1,000 people, but it’s so big it doesn’t even feel crowded.  You can’t move more than five feet without finding an electrical outlet. Huge play area for the kiddies.  Virtual reality golf driving range, prayer room, working spaces, sleeper room, and a concierge. Each restroom has rows of stalls, an attendant (remember this was 1 am), and a bank of marble sinks in the center that would be fitting for a Roman Emperor.  It was all such a welcome relief after the excruciating ordeal I went through on British Airways two weeks ago.

The “secret” to business success isn’t really so secret…

  • Determine what product or experience would delight your customers.
  • Find the price you can charge that would provide that and still make a fair profit for your business.
  • Deliver that product or experience.
  • Rinse and repeat.

Thought of the day: Random events happen, but there are no random lives. Your destiny is determined by the thoughts you give precedence to.

P.S. I’m never one for regrets.  You have to celebrate each moment with passion, appreciation, and bliss.  But if you’re one of the people who thought about attending TRIBAL this year and decided not to come for any reason, you fucked up.  Not saying that to be petty, condescending, or snarky.  But you lost an opportunity to make the next 12 months the biggest quantum leap of your career.  Instead of sticking your head in the oven, might I suggest you rectify the situation and book your place for the 2023 version? It’s already ¾ sold out from previous attendees who are returning to re-audit the program.  You can get all the details and lock in your spot here.

  1. Nice post Randy, just curious, did you get to check out Istanbul at all or previous trips?? One of my bucket list cities...

    cheers,

    1. Yes I was there about ten years ago. It's simply breathtaking. Every street you go down you feel like you're in an Indiana Jones movie. And I know you're a food guy. The choices there are amazing.

  2. The P.S, is just

I went to Tribal for the first time this year.

If you met the people in the room with me, you'd already be registered.

Next year is going to be even more incredible because we're coming back bigger and better!
