The Deadliest Danger

Posted By: Randy GageOctober 14, 2009

Over the last few posts we’ve explored our reflexive tendency toward denial about things that make us uncomfortable.  Yesterday I related the examples of how we create false breakthroughs.  This is the way our insanity keeps reinventing itself.

But here is the most important thing you should know about all this…

These false breakthroughs are much more dangerous than NO breakthroughs!  Because if you’re an alcoholic or other drug addict, and you don’t have a breakthrough, you still know you have a problem.  Or you still are on the path that will take you to the place where you can recognize your problem.  And that is the main step to the solution.

But if you allow yourself to buy into one of these mock breakthroughs, you stop taking corrective action.  Because your denial leads you to believe the problem has been solved.  But of course all you have done is drive it further underground.  And that’s the dangerous part.

So how you doing on that?

I’m in Jakarta where we’ve sold more than 2,000 tickets to the events tonight, so it should really rock.  Tomorrow I go on to Medan and I’ll try and check in from there.

  1. Great post...yes, once we go over denial (knowing and.....accepting we are facing a situation or reality) we can start doing something about it!

Enjoy your staying at Jakarta. Wow...what a great Success! 🙂

I wish you a beautiful day,

  2. I fully agree with randy about having false breakthroughs with addiction. I am struggling with my food addiction but keep pretending that i've hit bottom and i'm ready for action and i'm even taking action. So why does my a@@ still take up so much room in the mirror??!!! Thanks Randy!

  3. You have to start somewhere. So I say there is nothing wrong when starting a new venture. You are excited, then this person asks you a question concerning the potential pay out and the dreadful Question: "How much are you making from this venture?" A famous gourou told me that if your lips are moving, your finger should be pointing to something (concrete). This is why you need a good sponsor or if this is not the case (because of a newly opened line or product) go higher. Find the source. Find someone or something (website) to back you up. And then, slowly (or to the pace that you desire) you climb to success. But never lie your way through.... never!

  4. I think we have mock breakthroughs because we have not found out the core of the problem. I sense the core of my problem is perfectionism but what does that means?I dont' know yet.
Are there any questions you asked yourself to get the root of the problem and get a real breakthrough since we know the addiction are just masquering some pain?
Randy this is where I am on examining my addiction of lack of money:unworthingness, perfectionism, and the idea of more pain if I change.
If I let go of my idea of a martyr, and I become a millionarie, then I will re-incarnate and start all over again. Returning to this world is more painful than making money.
So, my addiction is one of spirituality.

  5. I saw my former husband do this time and time again, with his alcoholism. Then he's start justifying each additional drink, since he had it 'under control'.

  6. I don't agree that false breakthroughs are worse than NO breakthrough at all. Yes, being in denial will lead you nowhere. The key is to realize that this was not a real breakthrough, just a "pause" (it still gives your body a break, which is good!). Then you have to think of how you can make a change that lasts. But you need to celebrate the small steps as well! If you constantly nag at yourself, that will not bring a lasting change. 🙂
AWARENESS is an important factor in breakthroughs.
