The Cost of a Dream

Posted By: Randy GageNovember 28, 2012

Let’s continue the discussion from the last post on the work required for success.  There are so many people looking for quick fixes and short cuts, and certainly no shortage of hucksters selling them what they want to hear.  But to do anything epic in any field requires real work.

And it’s a heavy price to pay…

I get that.  It means making choices, which is a nice way to say sacrifices.  It means believing in yourself sometimes when no one else seems to.  It can sometimes mean you face being ostracized or ridiculed.  People who are mired in mediocrity will even attack you if they feel your progress will negate their victim-hood excuses.

But none of those are reasons to give up.  Quite the opposite.  Because at the end of the day, there is one very simple, but very profound reality about all this:

It may seem like it costs everything to live your dream – but it costs a lot more not to live it.

  3. actually Randy,
it´s quite practical for the concerned to be ridiculed & ostracized when trying to make the dream come true.
Why? Well, everyone else is out of their/your way!!
They´re only acting like background actors who aren´t in your way but instead of applauding, just "booo" you. So?
I mean if you always played that role you´re used to it and it won´t harm your soul anymore after a while.

  5. Amen Randy!  Keep being epic! I'm going to read your new book this weekend - looking forward to it.  God Bless.

  7. Randy it is just in time, and you know what, Especialy it is true in the beginning, no one knows what it takes to get where you want to get, and people get lost in the way. Sometimes after couple of uhhhs. Thank you. Not very often we admit how many no's www get for one yes

  9. It's interesting to share a vision with others. Those that believe in themselves and possibility will get excited. Those that are living by the memes they expose themselves to along with those that were programmed in their minds as children, will ostracize you. My motto is "Just Believe".

  11. I was taught to Question Authority, so here's my question for Randy:  Have you ever asked yourself why you come back to this "people will reject us" theme so beeping often?  I can't see how such a belief would serve me (or anyone else).
Maybe it is the guy-thing, the big ol' exciting testosterone rush of Battling an Enemy.  As an old lady, I don't participate in the "Battle with an Adversary" model of life anymore.  The folks who don't support me, or who are dismissive/insulting etc. about me & who I am and what I do....heck, they mean nothing.  They are just expressing their own personal devils,it  has nothing really to do with me.  I brush them off, turn the other cheeks (you know - the ones behind me), do NOT make them important, dont engage with them.
I gotta wonder, why do you make these folks so excitingly important, Randy - you do a posts about èem all too often, which is just Emphasizing What We Dont Want, if you ask me. (which no one did, but oh well).

    1. @MrsHealthandProsperity I come back to that so often because it is one of the top (if not the #1) thing I hear from my tribe.  Whether live seminars, twitter, FB or here, people ask about it over and over.

Oh, interesting! Thank you for responding, Randy.  So your basic thought here is, "It happens.  Suck it up, Buttercup"?  A perfectly valid answer, I might add, tho you will phrase it differently, lol.
What is your personal, internal response to the nay-sayers?  Do they feel like a heavy burden to you? (I expect that you might be experiencing some of them, with a new book on the market - book reviewers being what they are.Do they upset you? And if so, how do you deal with the upsettedness?

    2. @MrsHealthandProsperity I can imagine he wants to point on this to make sure people know what they´ll lose or have to face once they start beiung different. I myself always turned away from those real quick but others maybe can´t do that "so easy". it may makes them feel like assh....´s if you´re not used to it. it might give them/you a bad feeling instead of a good one which you look for to achieve.

Hey Leeloo, Re  "...once they start being different...." - I must be getting old, I can't remember when I started being different!  Maybe that gives me an advantage, I've always had people who criticized me for being as-I-am.  My sister does that for me now, silly dame. Like you, I learned to brush off The Critics.  Goodness knows, I'm different now from who-I-was 5 years ago, and the ones who haven't been able to accept my changes simply have to do without me.

  17. Thank you so much, Randy, you are brilliant thinker! I'd repeat D.Trump words: If you think, why not think big? What's the alternative? Being always limited even in our thoughts, dreams, being limited in joy, happiness, love? We were created to be happy, to love and being loved, to give people joy and strengths we have in abundance. So, let's dream: Shoot for the moon and if you miss, you'll still be among the stars (Les Brown). Thank you for the great thoughts, Randy!
