The Choices You Make

Posted By: Randy GageNovember 16, 2010

I wanted the Cocoa Puffs.  But I went for the fresh fruit instead.

Ok they weren’t exactly Cocoa Puffs.  It’s a cereal they sell in the health food store, made without sugar, sweetened with fruit juice.  I always buy one that reminds me of Cap’n Crunch.  I keep cereal in my cupboard for when I get back the night before from trips, and I have no fresh fruit in the house.

So yesterday when I was shopping, I noticed that the company who made the healthy version of Cap’n Crunch now has a healthy version of Cocoa Puffs!  Naturally I snapped them up.  And when I got back from my cardio this morning, they were beckoning me…

But I had also bought my fresh fruit yesterday, so I did the right thing.  The Cocoa Puffs will have to wait.

Now at this point, you’re probably wondering if there is a point to all this Cocoa Puffs talk…

Actually there is.  It’s about choices.  The hundreds of little choices we make every single day.  Because choices control our thoughts, they create our habits, and they set mindsets.  The little choices are probably more important to you than the big choices you make!  Because the big choices come about as a result of all the little ones you’ve been making up to that point.

Some of the little choices you will make today:

Will you get some exercise?  What will you eat?  Will you tell someone you love them?  Give someone else a hug?  Spend some time in self-development?  Perform a random prosperity act? Call your mother?  Play catch with your kid?  Attend a 12-step meeting?  Tithe something somewhere?  Turn away from a gossip conversation?  Get some fresh air?  Watch a sunrise or sunset?

Please check in below on some of the choices you’ll be making today.

P.S.  Want to be in a high level Mastermind group with me? If so, be sure you are subscribed to my Randy’s Rants email newsletter, because I’ll be sending out a special announcement shortly.  You can register here: http://su.pr/1rGN3O

  1. The more I walk along my path of self-development, the more I like what you write ! perhaps (hopefully !) because I can relate to what you say.
    Today definitely is the case.

I keep asking my patients ( at my medical surgery in London) to make the right choices...but rarely do they...make them!
I now understand that we are not all at the same stage of development, and I can only be there again and again to remind them and offer them another way of saying the same !
    Aho !

  2. Well, for sure, one of the choices I'm going to make today is to say "thank you" to you, Randy! - for giving many people a great place to check in and grow and discover their own prosperity. And also, thanks for leading by example and being a great role model - I don't think there is a better way to impact others.

Other choices? To send my daughter off on the train to her new home today with all positive words of encouragement and hearing from me how very proud I am of her. A great workout later today and setting aside writing time because it is so important to my current plans.

Make it a great one! =)

  3. I choose the 90% cacao bars when I want something sweet. Great for skin too. I do recall some great cocoa puff memories though. I hope we all take this day and every day to take care of ourselves. I go to the gym most mornings or run on the beach. I find reading the bible first thing or watching an inspirational video, a great way to start each day. Random acts of kindness are a must. I love when I can get a smile out of someone who looks sad. Making eye contact and smiling is one of those simple things that has such a great impact on people. I couldn't agree more with Randy that small acts turn into big accomplishments and it's a great ride when you enjoy the journey one moment at a time. It's really all we've got. Have a great week everyone.

  4. Well, I exercised, hence the name ExerciseMan, I had a healthy fruit breakfast with vitamins, I will wrestle with my 3 year old in a minute (over the ipad) when I get off from here, spent some time in the sun, said hi with a smile to three people I did not know, and I just finished lunch, 100% whole grain wheat bread with Organic Peanut butter, honey, and bananas on it!

    Have a great day Randy!

  5. It's SO true about choices.. Another element of choice versus want is that when we CHOOSE something and maintain that choice in our minds while taking action to get it, we do. On the other hand simply wanting something usually results in exactly that.. Wanting.

Regardless, it's really amazing the connection between choice and results and just how many choices we make in a minute. What's AMAZING about Life is that we can always make NEW choices and have a NEW life! The Universe is infinite and so are the choices we can make!

    Thanks Randy!

  6. Hi Randy,

Today I am sticking strictly to my habit of dropping everything on the hour to meditate for 10 minutes. Since 8:00 AM so far, so good.

This is a lesson in releasing attachments like no other for I really do drop everything on the hour! It's amazing how quickly my tension eases when sitting throughout the course of the day. The ego's chatter subsides and my higher self does a fair amount of the talking.

I make the right choices when meditating frequently because I feel guided by a Higher Power.

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

  7. This is exactly what I tell each of my clients just about every time I meet with them. Life is all about the series of choices that we make daily that, over time, accumulate into the results that we experience. The amazing thing is that most people just "wake up" one day (or not) and then want someone to "fix" their situation. What they don't realize is that they simply need to start making a series of different choices until they are in a different situation! Where people seem to struggle the most is with choosing their emotional reactions, not realizing that they are actually in control and others don't "make" them feel any specific way.

I am really enjoying your posts - always looking forward to the next one! I think I will choose to re-read some of your books in the meantime! =)

  8. Hi Randy,

What is a "random prosperity act?" A random act of kindness? Charity? Or something different? I searched the blog, but you haven't used that phrase before.

    Thanks!

  9. I like the "sweetened with fruit juice" thing.

Certainly better than sucralose for example.

    Choose sucralose instead and you'll:

-Cause the thymus to shrink by as much as 40% (the thymus is your immune powerhouse - it produces T cells).

-Cause enlargement of the liver and kidneys.

-Reduce growth rate as much as 20%.

-Cause enlargement of the large bowel area.

-Reduce the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50%.

-Increase the pH level in the intestines (a risk factor for colon cancer).

    -Contribute to weight gain.

-Cause aborted pregnancy low fetal body weight.

    -Reduce red blood cell count.

Not exactly the way nature intended it.

  10. Today I decided to go to the meeting in the evening although I was very tired.

    And it is really magic:

It was the best meeting I ever had. And when it started to become really great I wasn´t tired any more.

And this after working hard from 5:50 a.m. to 07:00 p.m.

I think this is what we sometimes get back if we decide to go the extra mile.

    To your massive success

    Volker

  11. To me, it's most important in "how" I make the choice, rather than the actual choice itself. Am I choosing to do this from fear and scarcity or love and abundance? You can eat right and exercise but if its done from a place of fear, it won't be good for you. And if one is coming from a place of love and abundance, the choices we make tend to be good. I am a sales professional & sales coach and my observation is that prospecting doesn't work for most people as it is done from fear and "not enough." The shift to an abundance and loving mentality generates much different results. Same action (choice), different mind set, different result. BE-DO HAVE.

  12. Great article Randy, each choice we make takes us one step closer to our desired result or one step deeper in crowded streets of mediocrity.

    Thanks,
    Roisin.

  13. Hi Randy,
I think I have lost many valuable years of life grudging about the negative people/circumstances. So, from today onwards I'll ignore the negative people/news around me and will focus my attention on the positive side of life.

    Thanks!

  14. So true. It's all about mind set and making it happen. Thanks for reminding us to kick our own butt (hope this word is not considered to crude :os . Today, I'm gonna call my mom, walk the dogs and not be so stress.

    Thanks Randy.

One thing, with all those good things you say, you shouldn't look so severe on your blog's picture.

    1. That's not severe, that's my "blue steel" look! LOL Actually we're just now working on a redesign of the website and I want to give it a friendlier less official feel. Should be up soon. Thanks, RG

  15. amen. acknowledged. confirmed. I forwarded this blog to a co-worker, MLM'r, and the words exploded in her and her sphere of influence! Today she dances to the music in these words! Choice is a wonderful thing to be respected and exercised.

  16. Randy -
I commented on this very thing today when I was speaking to an old friend. In the past 24 hrs, I have made a decision to change career paths... I have been offered an incredible managment opportunity. I have been working toward this goal for 8 years and today, it is coming to fruition. I admired my mentors and vowed that I too would be in a position to motivate people and give back. Now is my opportunity and I am so grateful for every opportunity that I have had over the past 8 years... however dismal things were at times, I know it only made me stronger and more ready for the adventure that lies ahead. The choices to stay in a career and the choices to move on, brought me one step closer to where I am today... at times I felt I may not be making the right choices, but today, I realize that I had all along. The way things turn out amaze me at times, but then again... it doesn't surprise me. I put it out there, and it is now becoming reality. Powerful stuff!!

  17. If there is anything I hate, its gossip. People who gossip do so because they have nothing better to talk about and cannot be all that intelligent. My Dad's philosphy was if you're going to say something about somebody, go tell them directly, otherwise do not say anything. This is a value I learned from him.
