The #1 Deadliest Cause of Failure

Posted By: Randy GageSeptember 23, 2018

In this series, we’re exploring the five biggest causes of failure that are holding people back.   In case you need to catch up, here is the 2nd Deadliest Cause.

And now today we look at the #1 Deadliest Cause of Failure.  But first, the breaking news…

This started as a series of five blog posts, but has consumed my life for the last two weeks, and evolved more into a manifesto for personal growth and development.  And now that we’ve reached the number one cause, there is so much I want to share with you!  So much about how this cause comes about, why it is so debilitating, and what you can do to fix it.  So rather than make today’s post longer than a surfboard, I’m going to chunk it down into a few.  Now that that is out of the way, let’s explore the deadliest cause of failure…

Worthiness Issues

If you’ve read many of my books, this will be no surprise to you.  It’s the number one issue I see again and again, as I coach and consult with people.  Here’s the actual, scenario playing out around the world…

Literally a couple billion with a ‘B’ people are living their lives with a conscious desire to become more wealthy and successful.  But they have subconscious negative programming that is causing them to short-circuit and self-sabotage their own success.

And if you know anything about the power of the subconscious – you know that in any conflict between the conscious and subconscious mind, the subconscious always wins.

No contest.  Not.  Even.  Close.

I could write a whole book about this process.  (Oh actually, I already did.)  But let’s explore the “Cliff Notes” version…

There are millions of memes circulating around the world.  Memes are not pictures on social media; the term was highjacked.  An actual meme is a mind virus.  Just like the manner a virus that can infect your hard drive, these memes infect your mind.  They’re highly contagious and self-replicating, because they parasitize and infect the host (you).

Some memes are innocent enough or even positive.  Examples would be a beguiling slogan like “Just Do It,” or a catchy tune like "I Gotta Feeling" from The Black Eyed Peas.

Most of the memes floating around the globe today are not so innocent...

They create and/or reinforce negative, limiting beliefs that are not in your highest good.  And a huge proportion of of the most powerful and prevalent mind viruses in the world today revolve around money and success.  These include:

  • Money is evil
  • Rich people are bad
  • It’s noble or spiritual to be poor
  • You have to sell your soul for money
  • Companies have to be exploitative to be successful
  • To become wealthy, you have to be bad parent

When you’re exposed to negative programming like this, the danger is that they can influences your core, foundational beliefs.  The way you look at yourself and the world.

And that impacts every decision you make.

So how exactly do these dangerous memes get adopted into your subconscious mind and influence your life?  There are three major sources of contagion.  (Plus a fourth that I will sneak in later.)  And these are some of the most pervasive, invasive, powerful institutions in your world.

They are:

  • Government
  • The “Datasphere”
  • Organized Religion

Let’s do a brief run through of why three seemingly beneficial institutions would actually be working against your interests.

Government…

One of the most important prosperity lessons every society must learn is that governments don’t really create prosperity.  In fact, they usually squander or obstruct it.  Why?  It’s all about power.  Governments need you to need them, or they lose their power over you.  They create a need, fuel it with entitlement mentality, and then you are a dependent victim beholden to them.

The Datasphere…

If you want a TV show, movie, book, play or opera to be a smash hit, it’s pretty simple.  And the same is true for Facebook, Instagram or blog posts.  Pander to a strong meme like money is bad, rich people are evil, or you have to sell your soul to be successful.  People gobble that up, because it makes them feel good about their lives of quiet desperation.  And you’re getting this programming 24/7, 365 days a year.

Organized Religion…

A lot of the world’s organized religions are set up as cosmic frequent flier programs.  If you collect enough points, you win the free trip to paradise.  Whether we look at the Christian concept of original sin, the Buddhist 8-fold path, the Hindu doctrine of karma, the Jewish Covenant, or the Muslim Code of Law, they all are set up with the basic presupposition that you are a flawed being who needs salvation.  Translate that to a core belief and that belief is YOU ARE NOT WORTHY.

Here’s the really ironic thing in all three of these categories…

The vast majority of the people involved do not want to harm you.  They probably want to help you.

Most of the people who enter politics do so from good intentions initially.  Then they lose perspective and principle, and defeating the other party becomes the overriding motive for everything they do.

The people writing all these books, TV shows, movies, operas and play with poverty consciousness aren’t doing so intentionally.  They are infected with the memes and replicating them without even realizing it.

The majority of religious leaders begin wanting to help humanity.  Unfortunately there are thousands of years of negative, dysfunctional beliefs already baked into the cake of those religions, before they even begin.

So here is where we have ended up – and why odds are very high that you have worthiness issues and are sabotaging your own prosperity:

For the first time in human history – we evolve more from the selection of adaptive ideas than biological hereditary traits.   Meaning, we do more because of mind viruses than DNA.  A few years worth or programming is overriding thousands of years of evolutionary development.

Meantime, outside of the top three, there is a fourth source of unworthiness issues, trying to crack the list…

It is not an institution like the big three categories above, but it is just as insidious.  I am coming across this more and more frequently.  And that source is being the victim of abuse, particularly in your younger years.  Not to belittle abuse you receive as an adult.  Horrific is horrific.   But I think if you are the victim of physical, sexual or mental abuse as an adult you have a little bit better chance of coping with it.

Imagine if you’re a 7-year-old girl and a victim of incest from your father.  Being eleven and getting beaten and mentally abused, being told you brought it upon yourself.  Think what these do to your self-esteem.  Just discovering you were adopted could trigger all kinds of self-doubts about worthiness

So now let’s multiply the cumulative effect of the programming from government, the datasphere, organized religion and perhaps being the victim of abuse or assault.  Where does that take us?

Back where we began.  Literally billions of people are consciously working for more prosperity, but are subconsciously self-sabotaging their results – because they have underlying issues of worthiness.

And when I say “billions of people,” I am probably talking about you.  So that seems like a logical point to pick up on the next post.  We’ll look at how core beliefs you develop can cause you to self-sabotage.

  1. Do you think religion is the underlying cause of problems in government, the datasphere, and abuse? Or in sine cultures without religion, it could be ancient beliefs/ways we are still passing onto others as part of our culture and identity?

    1. That comment on being an 11 year old being beaten physically and mentally, oh boy, does that resonate for me.. raised by a miserable violent alcoholic father and a totally self absorbed mother, once went to see her and there she is going on about how my brother had to go a neighbor so in her words he didn't get a licking, and the next sentence, with no irony couldn't figure out why he didn't turn out great.. oh well, can't change the past, just be aware of it.. cheers...

    2. Bernice: the ancient beliefs are all about prosperity. For the tribes, abundance was a saint thing. The modern shithole religions changed it to poverty. There is a book about the subject, but can't recall the name.

  2. In NLP we have a term 'secondary gain'. Basically meaning I'd like to move ahead to point B but staying at point A provides me with some gain and hence I don't move. I found that even understanding that those memes are there is often not enough to free people because they 'gain' something from maintaining them. That gain is most often connection to people or attention by being the 'victim'. In this age where every second person on facebook is a coach I feel that the next major crossroads is addressing what we gain from maintaining connection with these memes and if we are really ready to release those attachments to get what we truly say we want. Awareness vs Action. Do you think our role as coaches/authors/speakers - basically influencers - is to help people gain awareness or assist them in moving to a new level of thinking?

  3. Even if families are not religious, they are watching, listening to and reading stuff written by people who are religious. The stuff may not even be categorized as religious.

  4. You got that, when in childhood every scar was valuable? Because it showed the world that you are a warrior. Then, while growing up, you collecting as much scars inside or outside to became even greater warrior, but what eventually you became is a homeless, or a wreck. Trying to avoid scars seems a little better idea.

But yes, worthiness issues is the number one cause. You hearing so many times in your childhood, you don't deserve that toy, you don't deserve that meal, you are a bad boy, because you wont obey for the nearest Nazi, etc. If you are fat, you don't deserve money. If you are not so nice as your neighbor, you not deserving money. But just because you aren't as good as something than others, why is it means that you don't deserve money? It is nothing to do with it.

  5. You are still a victim if you are accepting deadly beliefs.

The only way to triumph over being a victim is to change your beliefs to living ones.

There was a very old Post that said their seed is dead. Each person has to kill their deadly beliefs. It helps to have more people with living beliefs.

    1. Most of what is stated here by Randy and persons responding is correct. The only problem is it's too simplified. Just because you know something is causing you a problem or is detrimental to your thinking doesn't mean you can easily correct it simply by knowing it's a problem. Everyone knows that smoking is detrimental to health but more than 15% of people still smoke. You need to discover the situation or incident in your youth that triggers your subconscious mind to default to the unworthy mindset which is so detrimental to your growth.

      1. Actually in tomorrow's post, we'll explore more specifically on how this could be impacting you, and preventing you from reaching the success you desire.

      2. Paul: to add something. I know a couple of people with lung cancer. No one is a smoker. I know lots of smokers, who have no health issues (including myself). Something is very fishy about banning all the smokers of the world. I know it sounds weird, but examining my environment from 30 years, it is absolutely impossible for me to smoking is as deadly as they portrait it. I know only one people personally, who died in cancer and was a smoker, but he had liver cancer. By the way, the government want to ban it desperately, and this tells me that this is another phony thing. The government wants you to be dumb, sick and broke. Now the "sick" part can be the smoking, but they want to ban smoking. So personally I think smoking is not deadly at all. May they just don't want you to thinking alone or in group while smoking your cigarette.

For example, milk is truly deadly. It is like white shit. Milk is for cows, not humans. Not an inch is healthy in it. They ban it? They don't. So let me smoke, because I am safe.

  6. Here is another interesting meme: wealthy people throw trash (or even valuables) all over for poor people to clean up after them.

To be equal you have to treat others as equals.

Equality. Babies don't know the difference between the Queen and the opposite of a queen. Babies have no idea how much money you have or education level or your job title. Just love and kindness.

  7. Probably another meme is that for one to live the other must die. Inequality. Hate. Not an ideal relationship. One has to be superior over another. Patriarchy. Maybe that goes back to little girls scream.

Studies show men live longer in equal relationships. So why hang onto inequality?

    1. Bernice: people aren't equal. They newer was. That's why communism is died. But this is very fortunate, because if everybody is equal to the others, you have nothing to learn.

"To be equal you have to treat others as equals."

A poor people not equal to a rich people. If they are equal, they have to live the same life (I almost can say in the same body). There is no equality.

  8. As one of your students and prosperity practioners, I've been contrasting the difference between "spirituality & religion".. organized religion; at a pentacost church (vs a unity church)

the difference is positive memes and negative memes is real!.. spirituality being "original blessing" and religion (all denominations) representing "original sin", where Jesus represents and exemplifies LOVE; it's a double whammy. Not only do religious churches preach and convince die-hard christians they are "flawed beings", but they play the "love is so intoxicating to resist it" card. ~ what (so-called) "flawed being" could or can resist an irresistable presence, environment and "culture of love", with the asurrance of fellowship with like minded believers every sunday, "you're a flawed human being who definitely needs a savior" is laden with worthiness issues, bigtime. The thing IS ( I realized) the churches have no clue about these invisible negative memes implied through their teachings.

People aren't flawed, we are inherently good in nature! .. our source is a continuous flow of well being, which the multitudes loose sight and remembrance of..

we can avoid self-sabotage with a more mindful use of our "I AM", and an comprehensive understanding of spiritual possibility; the spirit OF possibility and Prosperity.
