No need to bet your rent money because what you are saying is spot on. I have studied what you have stated here and how it relates to longevity from studies by such renowned scientists as Dr. Longo of USC. Here is what I discovered:
1. The worst kind of stress to be in is what's called "distress". That is the condition where a person is under so much constant stress that he or she cannot function properly, has difficulty sleeping, focusing, and eating. It is a feeling of complete helplessness and being in a state of having no control. Most of us have had this kind of stress at one time or another - due to the death of someone close, going through divorce, losing a job, etc. - but we bounce out of it.
2. The other detrimental condition or state that a person can be in is the state of no stress (which was definitely news to me). The studies explained that the human body is an organism, of course, and was not meant to thrive in a state of no or very little stress. Most people believe or wish they could lie on the beach all day and do nothing, but this would actually be detrimental to you as an organism that needs stimulation. The conclusion was no stress was almost as detrimental as being in a state of distress.
The best stress that a human can be an is that of positive stress. In other words, just enough stress where you feel you are in control and you are being challenged. We are organisms that are meant to think, move, create, feel, and constantly experience the world through our 5 senses. In other words, it's finding the right balance of stress that will motivate you and keep you healthy as you move through life. If you don't believe that no stress is not detrimental, just go to an old folks home and look at the vegetative state most of the occupants are in.

I wish more people were aware of the detriments of no stress!
A great reminder!!! Xoxo
I'm confused. I'm just reading your book 'why you're dumb, sick and broke and how to get smart, healthy and rich.' There is an entire chapter devoted to Selfishness being a virtue, why is it a bad thing now?
There is also a connection between men's health in a divorce with possible health issues caused by a divorce anxiety, so as you have said, the best thing you are able to do is to keep caring about yourself and surround you with love and self-commitment.
