Reversing Your Negative Thoughts

Posted By: Randy GageApril 4, 2009

Some great insights on the future of the internet that I raised in the last post. Hope you checked it out.  Now let’s go back to the million-dollar question I raised earlier:  Namely, what do you do, when you realize that most of your thoughts are negative?

First, you work on starting to catch them.  Meaning that you notice when you have a lack-centered or fear-based thought.  This is much harder than it sounds.  Because you’ve been conditioned to think you are your thoughts, as opposed to the thinker of your thoughts.  (As we discussed some posts back.)

Now when something happens and you catch a bad thought, you have to stop and reposition it.  Example: You’re single and attracted to someone at a party.  You think about meeting them and immediately your first thought is about being rejected.  You notice that and speak to yourself mentally.  “Isn’t that interesting?  I was thinking about meeting that person, and my first thought was rejection!  Where did that come from?  Aren’t I just making that up?  Why am I not thinking that they would be delighted to meet me?”

And you know what, they still could reject you.  But that’s really not likely.  But even if they did, you still would have started the change in your thought process.  And every time you make an incremental change, it takes you closer to the breakthrough point – which is what we will discuss next!

  1. This is my 1st comment posting - so please be gentle with me!

    I believe Randy Gage's is absolutely GREAT! & then some!!!

    After 62 years on this God's green earth & with me always trying to have a most positive attitude - I still seem to usually continue to have "Stinkin Thinkin" which keeps me from manifesting the prosperity that I am seeking and rightfully deserve.

    FYI - Right now I am a Real Estate Investment Advisor in the Republic of Panama.

    Example - today I am working in the Cerro Azul Community - a glorious mountian community in the Republic of Panama.

    I am in the front yard of a new listing of mine with a hammer in hand putting in my RE/MAX For Sale sign.

    I swear - I just made my very 1st hammer strike on the For Sale sign with my hammer and a car filled with people pulled right into the driveway of the property.

    The driver of the car got out & said "Is this home for sale?"

    Instead of my thinking - WOW! I don't even have my For Sale sign up in the front yard and these people who just arrived are going to buy this property - Instead I thought Selling Real Estate is NOT this easy.

    Of course because of my "Stinkin Thinkin" the prospective buyers advised me that it was their 1st trip to Panama, they have to check out the schools etc, etc,

    Randy Gage - is it possible for you to create some exercises to help your faithful followers - REVERSE OUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS?

    If you are able to do so - Together we can save the world!

  2. I recently asked someone what they thought of the Catholic Church and they responded with,

    This is a pretty easy answer for me. Definitely find a Unity or Science of Mind church and attend a service and see what you think. The Catholic church is mired in lack consciousness.

    I happen to agree with that statement but something was brought to my attention yesterday that reminds me of this topic we are discussing.

    I was lost and just happened to walk past a Scientology office so I had to go in to satisfy my curiosity. (I actually don't believe that it was a coincidence at all.)

    I told the woman at the front counter about the comment this person made and she said something very interesting.

    She said, I wonder what it is inside that person that has formed such a negative outlook on the Catholic Church.

    In other words, it's really not the Catholic Church that is the issue, it's this person's negative perception that has to be explored.

    In using the example above about approaching the girl, if I thought the girl was going to reject me and I caught myself thinking those thoughts, I could have a conversation that went something like this.

    She is too gorgeous for me;
    She is too rich for me;
    I have been rejected before;
    She is too fit for me;

    Now, all of these comments have absolutely nothing to do with the girl and the only way to change those thoughts is to explore where they come from and what is in inside of me that makes me feel this way.

    I am interested in what this person will say when they read this post about the Catholic Church. They may say something like this.

    Just take a look at the negative things the church has done over the years;
    The Church is based on instilling fear and guilt;
    The Church is too traditional and has not changed with the times;

    This is another way of projecting the negative thoughts onto the subject rather than exploring the inner reasons for having those thoughts.

    If we rephrase every question in a way that forces us to look deeper inside of us, I think we will be heading toward that breakthrough we are all hoping for.

    On another note,,,,,,I thought the lady I spoke to was a fantastic marketer because I walked into the store not knowing what I wanted and she convinced me that paying $ 20 for a copy of Dianetics would add value to my life....lol

    Cheers,
    Mike

  3. Tell people they have “negative” thoughts etc. enough times and they will start to believe in it perhaps. And I wouldn't confuse observing and questioning with being "negative". The question is what kind of experience we want here on a total level.

  4. Catch the thought and change it. In her book "Excuse Me Your Life is Waiting" the author Lynn Grabhorn explains that it only takes 16 seconds to entrench a pattern, be it negative or positive. It really is that simple to change a thought and change the rest of your day. And if you do hit upon a negative issue that comes up, good! Once it's been recognised and brought into the light, you've dealt with it and will recognise it more should it come up again at a later date (as you go into another layer of the infernal 'onion' that is life patterns).
    It's not about reversing them, it's about recognising them and changing them without the need for angst or too much navel gazing. Accept what is, and if you don't like it, change it!
    Blessings

  5. Elly, that's great advice!

    And I'd just add one thing - try and recognise the feeling that the negative thought brings up (panic? resignation? despair?) and feel that feeling, even if only for a second or two.

    It's OK to feel!

    And if you can recognise and accept that feeling, and THEN go on to think a more supportive thought, you may get an even better result.

  6. Hi Randy, Im in the Agel team=) And you inspire me more than you can belive =) Sorry for my bad english! I just wanted to say, that i really like your blogg and your site, keep up the good work;)

    /Thina- Im working on MY dream!

  7. You might as well as tell everyone the whole story. The person that made the comments about the Catholic church being mired in lack consciousness was me.

    Yes I have read Dianetics and took some courses with Scientology. And I must say if anyone markets better than the Vatican, it is Scientology!

  8. I don't see it as necessarily negative that Randy recommended Unity or Science of Mind as alternatives to the Catholic church. As a former Catholic and frequent visitor to both Unity and Science Of Mind, I could not in good conscience recommend to someone that the Catholic Church was their best option if they were searching for a predominately positive environment.

    If they were specifically intending a ritualistic experience with closely defined perimeters of belief and action for the purpose of securityI would. My intentions in the first option would not be to cast aspersions upon the Catholic Church. In any case, I might encourage them to visit all three choices and offer that they choose the one that resonates and feels the best for them.

    Making the observation that the Catholic Church instills fear or is lack oriented is an opinion/observation of one's experience, many former Catholics would agree, myself included. Some would not. The comment is perceived as negative or not by the other individual.

    It always comes back to us, so much of what we think is meant to be negative "out there" is really our perception. I would offer that Randy was most likely trying to offer a positive experience based on his own positive experiences with the two churches mentioned.
    As far as the Scientology woman, she was expressing what she believed to be positive also, within her own experience arena, which is all any of us can really do.

    It's always up to us to perceive and accept negatively or positively.

  9. Thanks,Randy !

    Liked this short and concrete post !
    Wow !! This is so simple and interesting to catch a bad,negative thought and invert it to positive !

    Gonna use it from RIGHT NOW !

  10. I am reading a Louise Hay`s book, and there she suggested to pay a fee everytime you have a negative thought about money, this is when she talks about financial prosperity, she say that with the money we can buy something that give us pleasure, weekly or monthly. I can assure you I started doing that , and oh my God, I can become rich at the end of a month, ha,ha,ha,ha.
    But what I learned from it is that I was thinking I didnt have as much negative thought as I actually have, this make me realize that I have to work harder to change my thoughts not only financially but generally.
    We dont notice that because we are used to have those kind of thinking but if we pay attention we can make small changes and at the end of the week or month we could have change a bit of our thinking to a possitive thinking.

  11. OK - if there ever were something truly negative, that would be to be ignorant.

    I suggest we are consciousness observing and experiencing what we choose to create, so we are not our genetic spacesuits and there is nothing needed between us and what we are already a part of.

    Don't let anyone or anything hijack the truth.

  12. I was pleasantly surprised that there was one last copy of Randy Gage's book at Chapter's Book Store in Vancouver, BC. I just finished reading his book, Why you're Dumb Sick & Broke and How to Get Smart, Healthy & Rich.

    It's fantastic!

    It's funny that I went to the book store intending to buy a lighter book. Something not so serious and not designed to change me. I've read so many self-help books I'm getting a little tired of the same old message. I just wanted something entertaining and light.

    When I read the first Chapter I was hooked. It's a self help book that made me laugh my ass off! Just what I needed!

    If you haven't read it,,,,you're missing out.

    Happy Reading,
    Mike Delaney
