This is probably one of the hardest things for people to do, especially men. We always feel we need to be in control, although rarely are we 100% in control of anything. It is very difficult to give up the urge to control and accept the things we cannot. Sometimes it is perpetuated from the position that you are in. When I was in law enforcement, almost everyone I encountered expected me to solve their problems and do it in a very short period of time. I am sure there are several other professional positions (doctors, psychologists, accountants, etc.) whom are put in the same spot. And if we don't find a solution for a particular problem or the event comes out different than anticipated, we often feel we failed, and failure is a very difficult thing for most people to accept.
