Never Waste a Good Recession!

Posted By: Randy GageAugust 24, 2009

Predictably I created quite a stir on the last post, when I said that people are poor because they choose to be.   I knew that would fluster some people, but I felt it was important to rattle some molars and get people to do some critical thinking on the subject.

Bones took issue because he felt many choices are made unconsciously and wondered if that can really be called a choice.  But that’s really the reason why I wrote the post.

Because millions of people have been brainwashed into making subconscious choices, without even knowing they are doing so.  That was really the theme of my last book.

Al and Tony were concerned that the “you chose this” mantra could have adverse effects and lead some people into self-blame or self-hate.  That is something I considered.  But I write this blog for serious students of self-development, and I don’t want to dumb it down for the herd.  I feel we have “big kids” reading this and if I bring something like this to their attention, they’re likely to change behaviors or beliefs that are holding them back.

As Lajon, JW, and Ellis correctly pointed out, the real message of the post was about taking responsibility for your life.  And where you are is based on the choices you made.

What we are really talking about here is the choice of remaining a victim, or choosing to be a victor.  And keep in mind, I teach this from the experience of spending the first 30 years of my life in complete victim mode.  I don’t raise these issue to condescend or act superior, but to share the insights I’ve learned thus far on the journey.

What I know is this:  There has never been a more exciting time to be alive in human history.  And never been so many ways to become prosperous.  We are absolutely surrounded by opportunity at this second.  And in difficult economic times like now, the opportunities for creating prosperity become much more numerous.

As Charles Fillmore taught, there is no place that prosperity is not.  It is in the ethers all around us.  But to manifest it on the physical plane, we must use the power of ideas.

Wherever there are challenges, there are corresponding opportunities.  But your mind can only process one viewpoint.  If you want to hang on to being a victim, you can’t become a victor.  We all face challenges, have setbacks and experience difficulties.  We all fall from time to time.  But like Jim Rohn says, if you fall down, “do a few push ups while you’re down there!”

The great news is you DO get to choose:  You can be the slum dog – or the millionaire!

  1. Randy,

I enjoy this perspective, taking control and responsibility. It is often too easy to not push back on issues that keep us down. I find this especially so in business where we are always being squeezed by something that is trying to keep us poor.

I enjoy the posts that you make as they continue to challenge us to stand up and ensure that we achieve our goals.

    Thank you.

  2. Billionaire Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, whose wealth is estimated at USD 16.5 billion, defended multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical companies earlier on his radio show.
Mayor Bloomberg indicated that the pharmaceutical companies and their chief executives should not be scapegoats as they "don't make a lot of money." In the meantime, pharmaceutical CEO's are known to make millions of dollars, with generous salaries up to USD 25 million plus stock options and other perks.
Mayor Bloomberg was also quoted as saying earlier this year that "we love rich people" and that President Obama, who earns USD 400,000 annually plus has made millions from book sales "doesn't get paid that much" and is "on a budget" like millions of Americans.
Either the Mayor is getting careless or the plan is to flaunt these huge income discrepancies in the face of the American public.

So, if you are happy with, or striving to reach, a 6-figure income, once the American Dream, think again. God-Mind is limitless, so continue to open your mind-pattern to receive the abundance of the universe. Do not limit your goals; expand upon your self-expectations and bring it into YOUR reality. If these people can do it, so can you!

  3. Randy, this is awesome. I've got to become more computer savy. I would love to post it on my facebook page.

  4. Randy,

I agree that people need to avoid making excuses - especially about this "bad economy" - because there is too much evidence showing that we're NOT all doomed to poverty due to this economic environment.

However, I disagree strongly that EVERYONE in the world has a choice in how wealthy they are. In America and most other Western cultures these days, yes, we certainly have a choice in the matter because we live in capitalistic societies in times of relative peace.

But to say that EVERYONE chooses to be welathy or poor is ridiculous in light of some of the horrible conditions in other parts of the world.

My grandmother was kidnapped by Nazis and thrown in a concentration camp when she was a teenager who just happened to be outside playing in the streets of Northern Italy. If you're trying to say that she CHOSE to be poor during her time in the Nazi concentration camp, I think you do a tremendous disservice to all the victims there as well as the heroic sacrifice the Allied Forces made to stop Hitler's madness. No amount of positive thinking or "wealth consciousness" would've stopped the Nazis. It took brave soldiers willing to die for an important cause.

In a less-dramtic point, what about all those young men who were drafted into Vietnam not so long ago? Do you honestly think that if they just would've just been more focused on attracting wealth, they could've avoided such an unpleasant experience?

My point is, because of the time and place we live in history, it's easy to forget how many people are robbed of the opportunities to make any choice at all - both in history and right now in many parts of the world.

However, once again, I do agree 100% that WE are lucky to be where we are and have the ability to choose the life we want.

In light of people's circumstances in other times and places, we most certainly have even more responsibility to not make excuses and to choose the life we want.

    Just my two cents.

  5. Excellent post Randy. You are absolutely right level of wealth is a matter of choice. What stops most people from achieving is FEAR in its' many forms

  6. -RG,

As stated "Bones took issue because he felt many choices are made unconsciously and wondered if that can really be called a choice."

That's exactly why we need blog post such as yours and many others to slap us upside the head and really look at what we are listening to watching and reading.

So that we may discern the BS from the true ideas and positive inspiration pulled from the ether's.

    -djm

  7. Excellent post Randy! You state simply what I have always chosen to believe. We are not victims unless we choose to be. Not that fear doesn't wrap it's almost invisible tentacles around me and try to pull me down, but I find more and more every day that my attitude and choices determine how that day will turn out!
Thanks and keep blogging the truth!

Choosing to soar like an eagle!

  8. Randy this header is genius! I love it...

If Bones and others get offended, lets face the fact, thats also a choice...Bones be aware, getting offended is a mind set!

Being truthful and bald is part of prosperity and success (obviously Randy is doing it).

In order to succeed in any area of life, especially prosperity mind set, one must find a role model of success, someone who already achieved the same things we go after and then be brave and Let go! follow the model and copy everything they do.
In order to be coached, one must be coachable!
I don't think that Tiger Woods would argue with his coach or disagree with their opinion. The best top athletes in the world, all have a coach for every area of life. They become the best leaders in their field of agenda since they know how to be great followers and be open to the coaches suggestions.

Randy, keep it up buddy...I am right behind you.

  9. Thanks for keeping it 'smart'.
When I got that I was responsible for my life and that I was my own victim, I was relieved, at least I could take control and start manifesting good things! we should be grateful to be responsible and have choices : )

  10. Yes, absolutely!!
If we could just remember our kindergarten days of "good choice", "bad choice" decisions and their consequences, we as big kids now, need to put it into perspective of what did we choose? Our current reality is a consequence of what choice of thought did we make?
    Thanks, Randy, for that affirmation.

  11. You're right on Randy and NEVER, EVER dumb your stuff down. I'd stop reading in a flash. I value you exactly for who you are.

  12. My friend told me once, 'everyone want accountability, until they are given it.'

I can't tell you how much, as a single mom of a four and six year old how much I appreciate your blog. It helps me to be a better mom because I am able to take these insights forward into my parenting.

I hope I"m raising children who are consciously aware of their choices, and the prices and benefits that come along with each one.

    Namaste, Randy!

  13. THANK YOU!!! Please keep challenging our beliefs. I have spent my whole life avoiding the truth, being afraid to "piss" off the people around me and not have them love me. And they left anyway!!! I have embodied the "victim, poverty, helpless" mode for far too long! The truth, shared with love, will set you free. I now know that if my thoughts/actions/conversations are congruent with my beliefs (positive, growing, seeking beliefs) that prosperity and goodness will be attracted to ME!
    Keep it coming!

  14. HI Randy;

To this I say, when the student is ready the teacher appears!
There will always be those not ready to hear certain truths.

    All the best.
    Olga

  15. Hey Randy, please keep telling it as it is. We may not have all the answers to why things happen, but we know that a man attracts into his life what he thinks about. Its a LAW, which is no respecter of persons. You either align yourself with it, or you stand in its way and it destroys you, like disobeying the law of gravity.
I saw an old movie today and it hit me as to how I always identified with the insecure-kid-with-potential-who-always-needs-encouragement meme. You can figure out what that did to me. It seems like all my self limiting beliefs are just coming to the surface, and what I do when I notice one is write it down, to study it....and then I let it go.
I anticipate the manifestation of my prosperity.
Don't dumb your message. Keep saying it!! I am reading 'Prosperity mind right now' (Lobbs of london...I like!)

  16. Do you really believe that this is a LAW? That it works anytime and every time?

Do you honestly believe that if someone in a war just thought positive thoughts and emitted positive feelings they would essentially be bulletproof and no bullet could penetrate their "positive energy field"?

Look, I beleive that we're responsible for 99.99999% of the stuff that happens to us in a place like America, at least after we've reached the age of 16 or so. I'm all for taking responsibility. But to say this stuff is an actual law just doesn't seem to hold up.

The key to success is being relentless and never giving up, no matter what comes your way. You don't want to fall into the trap of having something bad happen and then you spend the next three weeks trying to figure out how you attracted it or what the "universe" is trying to tell you. Instead, dust yourself off, learn from the challenge, and keep moving forward.

  17. Blah, Blah, Blah- everyone can stop kissing Randy's butt now...

(Randy- Why are you attracting sycophants? You CHOSE that y'know?)

Nothing here hasn't been said before, and I wasn't disagreeing with the "prosperity mindset" thing, and i wasn't
    "offended" by anything.

What I WAS taking issue with was the "More prosperous than thou" attitude. Blargh.

Hey Randy- You're single because you're CHOOSING to be.

What rich gay guy in Miami can't find someone? Ridiculous! You must be working really hard to CHOOSE that.

You are also CHOOSING to have me write these comments, so don't get mad at me- BLAME YOURSELF for choosing them.

Look, I'm all for personal responsibility, but that's entirely different than just saying "You chose that".

PERSONALLY RESPONSIBILITY is different. That says "now that I'm here, what do I want to do, and who do I want to be?".

Unfortunately, there's no way to argue against the theory of "choice" and "Law" of attraction because one could always say "Well, you chose it unconsciously", and then the New Thought movement becomes the same as every other unquestioned religion.

So, for the sycophants, a LAW means it ALWAYS works, under EVERY circumstance. Moreover, one can REPLICATE the conditions, and the results.

So, if you hate your sex life, and you get cancer in your genitals, then EVERYONE who hates their sex life must get cancer in their genitals for you to say it's a "law".

There are plenty of people who hate their sex life, but not every one of them gets cancer in their genitals.

So, to call it a "law" is a kind of reasoning called "Specious"- can you say "Specious"?

    It sounds like this: "SPEEEEESHUUUUS"

I am NOT saying they aren't curiously related, and I am NOT saying that there aren't some super-amazing connections between thought and matter. I AGREE that there is a lot there to be discovered, and what we focus on seems to color our entire life.

    HOWEVER...

I AM saying that blanket statements like "You choose everything" are TOTALLY "Dumbed Down", and they really appeal to desperate people who are looking for someone else to give them all the answers.

But guess what?- I AM HERE to give them to you!

As you already know, you ATTRACTED ME and my flair to bring joy and excitement to your discussions.

    You're Welcome.

Now give me money, and I'll write a book entitled "How to get Rich by being rude and sarcastic on other people's blogs".

You really should give me money, and then buy the book; I mean after all-

    YOU CHOSE IT....

  18. WOW Randy. Great follow-up to your post the other day.
The choice is ours. We are pure possibility, abundance and prosperity. Have a great day!
    God Bless!

  19. I agree Randy, my life has been made 100% better by removing the negative influences. I reached a fork in the road on my journey, and had to decide... So I took myself away, removed ALL external influences, and pondered my life. I stopped living they way I was originally "programed" and started the task of re-programming... Slowly I've found direction and purpose. Since that decision I've had some tough challenges, but with a consistent positive upbeat mindset I believe I can achieve anything now...and I always have too!!

I only talk about myself here, since I hope others will see that sometimes you need to strip yourself from your "comfort zone" and go right back to the start. Your history can make you strong if you allow yourself to see things from a different perspective. Think outside of the "matrix" and create your own life rules where you can achieve whatever you desire.

The challeges come, the true test is getting through them, and success is the buzz you feel when you smile and say "I Did It!!"

  20. OMG this is GREAT... i know you are serious and you have some thing important to say but i am still laughing my butt off... hehehe... LOVE the FEED BACK on this one...

    Amen!

Yikes... please next time don't hold back? :o)

  21. can i be the first to buy your new book? please-oh-please? (hey did i just manifest that?)

you can follow Joe Vitale's model and start an online course to your email list teaching them how be rude and sarcastic on other people's blog, so they can pay you to write your new book and then you can sell your new book and make more money.... you can offer resale rights and get it out faster and to more people? LOL...

    (see The E-Code pg. 39 How I Made Over $112,000 Teaching E-Classes.)

  22. Now I think you have gone way of tangent with your positive energy field example. Its not logical, and its like, pardon me, you're grasping for straws. The soldier chose to go to war. But if someone shoots him...theres physics laws...if he doesn't move out of the way, he gets shot. We attract into our lives who we are. Its something which will happen..whether you believe it or not.
And bones cmon...name calling because someone disagrees with your point of view? Is that really necessary?

  23. Another slap in the face from Randy to keep us on our toes. As usual its just what I need .. Sometimes though it just seems SO challenging to become rich that I can understand why people get p-ssed off trying so hard!

  24. 🙂 I must say someone had to get these blogs interesting, and I thank Bones for that.

I think Randy is great and I have seen him in ACTION at a couple of training sessions I attended. I must say the most I got from that in remembering back was. He is so funny, I laughed throughout those meetings, and other big events I have attended in the past was based on similar subjects. I must also say, my thoughts were, if I have to become a comedian to make it in this MLM industry, I am never going to be able to do this. :-(.

I KNOW I am going to get there, wherever that is, but I need to be able to do so without the hype, false promises, etc, that are all combined in this (could be great ) industry.

I will continue on in my daily activities knowing I am open and led!!!

I thank all the people I have met in this industry as I learn from most people I meet or do not meet. Just hearing or reading (which I haven't done in recent MLM books, as there isn't much difference in the trainings) is always helpful.

If you have a chance to hear Randy in person try to do so. I must say it was a TREAT for me!! 🙂

My best lessons in MLM is from the school of hard knocks, and when I followed others, I think back, and ask myself, "How could I have even tried that?" Live and learn is the rule!! If it doesn't fit, don't wear it.

Wow, can't believe I have so much to say. LOL

  25. Great to studied about above letter .. Yeah its right said that """ never become victim but become victor "" and one thing i want to everybody ""if you born as poor is not your mistake but if you died is your mistake ""
have a wonderfull day and successfull future ahead !!!
    Abhishek (india)

  26. "Al and Tony were concerned that the “you chose this” mantra could have adverse effects and lead some people into self-blame or self-hate."

Or, it could turn a few people into taking responsibility for their lives and choosing something new. It's all in what people choose to do with it/
