Moving from Victim to Victory

Posted By: Randy GageJanuary 20, 2010

In yesterday’s post I talked about my belief that I am a co-creator in my life.  As opposed to crediting or blaming everything on God, destiny or the universe, I’m taking responsibility for what I manifest.

As I’ve refined that belief, and taken responsibility for my own health, career and happiness – I’ve gotten further along in all of those areas.  It caused me to stop blaming outside factors for my failures.  I began to see them as wakeup calls provided by the universe.

Let me give you an example:

I want to play in a tournament.  I have some projects to finish before then.  I have a series of speeches in Australia and New Zealand right afterward.  It’s probably too much to do, but I want it all, so I do it.  I sleep less.  I eat erratic.  I experience stress.  To make it work, I take a red-eye, and fly straight through from Florida the night of the tournament, all the way to Perth Australia.

What happens?

We win the tournament.  I’m the hero at my speeches.  I make a lot of money.  Then I get a sinus infection and bronchitis and I’m sick for two weeks.  I hate to be sick, so I’m miserable.

When this happened – and it did – I didn’t see it as God “punishing” me.  I made some bad choices, got out of alignment of some universal principles and I paid the price.
Now you have two choices.  Which is where we’ll pick up on the next post…

  1. Great post, I felt the same few times and guess what I also had a sinus infection. I consider my self a lucky person because I always knew it was my own "fault".
Can't wait for the next post!

  2. Enlightening!

With free choices comes Ownership. The universe lets us know loud and clear if what we are acting on serves us or not ( sometimes we do need to be out of commission). I like to think of it as recess time, awareness and re-grouping moments. This is the Universe/God showing us love and guidance in spite of our choices.

Randy, this is a perfect example of that profoundly 'Cause & Effect' principle.

    Everyone, enjoy your day!

  3. I agree that if I exhaust myself physically, I can point to that as a cause of a weakened immune system and a consequential sinus infection. Physical realm cause-and-effect sequences are fairly straightforward for me.

In comparison, here's the tangled thinking I experience when it comes to the metaphysical or "invisible" realms (for example, setting a team building goal and very few people to whom I show the presentation join my team)

If I say "God is in charge" (or some other 'victim' approach), then if things don't go the way I want, I can relax and say "It was God's will" and I have Some One/ Some Thing to blame.

if I say "I am a co-creator with God" (an 'I am personally responsible' approach), then when things don't go my way, I blame myself, feeling inadequate & powerless to create my future. I try to remember to ask for "this or something better in the eyes of the Divine". When the cause-and-effect chain is not obvious I assume *I* am messing up somehow and I rarely know how to "fix" it. I am tempted to flip back to "God is in charge" mentality.

I guess the ultimate question is, "What am I responsible for?" Is someone else's inability to see the incredible financial opportunity due to the way I'm thinking? the way he/she is thinking? Am I in charge of the way my potential business partners think? Or is it more accurate to say, "when I think empowered thoughts, I will attract people who are ready to empower their own lives"?

    Randy, I welcome your thoughts.

  4. Good morning Randy,

    As usual you're spot on!
It's so funny, I think I told you I had to start a new job for awhile. Although it is not my first choice, I recoginize the blessing and that it is a stepping stone to greater things. What's a trip are 'friends' telling me I'm working to hard or too much ( at present I'm working 2 jobs to get where I want to go.) I need to rest, blah, blah, blah. I am ok with less sleep for now or eratic eating habits etc. I am working on a bigger picture and I am willing to make the sacrifices necessary to make it all happen.
So, bravo to getting out of balance every so often just as long as we recognize we are the ones doing it and take responsibility for it. And yes, let's be sure we also take credit for the great things we will create in our lives because of our taking responsibility .

    Have a great day Randy!

  5. knowing and applying the laws of the universe has improved the way I live and the decisions I choose to make.

    Principle of Attraction
    Principle of transformation
    The principle of connection
    The principle of all possibilities
    The Principle of Being
    The Principle of NOW
    Principle of higher self
    The power of inner dialogue

  6. When you are used to be the victim, or the heroe, is very hard to change the pattern, is hard first to even recognize you have it!

I have played with both patterns, sometimes victim, sometimes heroe. However, I am taking charge of what is happening to me now, I'm trying to take my life and my mistakes, as well as my accomplishments in my hands. It is soooo libearting!

I choose victory over victimhood even when I fail and it feels so much better.

  7. I am the center of my universe. I choose to focus on and create my future. I choose to dream. I choose prosperity so I am listening to the Universal laws for guidance.

  8. In sports and specially athletics which I have experience from there is always a suffering in the system due to overtraining that is necessary for extend limits.
A result of that are minor injuries that allows one to go on with the painful workouts but not every moment is particulary pleasant.

When the athlete has become a hero and winning or taking the medal they very often "catching" colds that decreases their capacity remarkable afterwards.

Seems like you more are exposed to microbes when you gave it all.

Sinus problems often has its emotional background of stress related to backholding anger according to Louise Hay the author of "You can heal your life".
Thanx for the reminder about keeping the level of antioxidants at a resonable level..

  9. Responsibility is seen and experienced by everyone differently. I like the 'creator' function as it is closest to my personal view.

Over 20 years ago I did a research paper on Responsibility. I discovered there are languages, like Russian, that have no word for responsibility and the translator uses duty, obligation, blame as it fits their context and perception of the material. Many people hold responsibility in those contexts as well. It turns out that 25 years ago there were three major approaches to viewing responsibility. Given human there may be one or two more by now.

Jean-Paul Sartre wrote “Absolute responsibility is not resignation; it is the logical requirement of the consequences of our freedom. What happens to me happens through me, and I can neither affect myself with it nor revolt against it nor resign myself to it. Moreover everything which happens to me is mine.”

Werner Erhard wrote “Responsibility is not burden, fault, praise, blame, or guilt. All these include judgments and evaluations of good and bad, right and wrong, or better and worse. They are derived from a ground of being in which Self is considered to be a thing or an object rather than a context.”

We live in a world where many people see it as governments ‘responsibility’ for guaranteeing more and more of what is actually ours to stand for, to be responsible for. Freedom and liberty only become possible when you SAY [not believe] responsibility starts with the willingness to deal with a situation from and with the point of view, whether at the moment realized or not, that you are the source of what you are, what you do, and what you have. This point of view extends to include even what is done to you and ultimately what another does to another.

Making the government, the police, GOD or anyone and anything else responsible for anything that happens takes away your power and your ability to create a new beginning. By the way the only way to create anything is from nothing. Creating from something is just change or something slightly different.

  10. To move forward, I need to let go of past mistakes and stop focusing on the past. I have to think about the future & what I want my future to look like. If I keep thinking of my past, my future will look like my past. So I am choosing to focus on my future.

I have looked at my mistakes and my core beliefs that lead to my mistakes. I am letting the bad beliefs go and replacing them with good beliefs. I just can't keep dwelling on my mistakes. I have to do what is best for me.

  11. Hey Randy
What would your choices be if you could do it over? I get that you paid the price but what have you learned from this and how would you choose from those activities?

    Thanks

  12. Not seldom have I asked myself what Randy would have done in this case. Stretching beyond the limits I thought had, makes possible for the wanting it all answer.

  13. I think we can have it all- happiness, health, wealth & peace. God wants us to have it all. We don't have to trade our health for wealth. We have to believe & think we can have it all. I think we can have it all by following the Laws of Prosperity.

  14. I think we pay a price if we are not living by the laws of prosperity. For example, if we need to forgive people or let go of things then our prosperity will be affected.

I think if the way we are living is not congruent with our values, philosophies and principles we also pay a price.

  15. Okay, I may be going a little off the subject here, but this is just what I am thinking about. One of the Laws of Prosperity is the Imaging Law. You dream big and can create success mentally first by using this law. You can create a dream board or prosperity map with pictures & affirmations of your dreams. You want to put big goals on your map and by seeing them everyday they are anchored in your subconscious mind.

A prosperity manifestation map is different from what I am used to doing for work. I am used to Project Plans, Requirements Analysis & Specifications and other documents. I wouldn't be dreaming big enough if I could make a project plan for it. To manifest big dreams I can't have a detailed project plan.

  16. The funny thing is I may make the same choices. I hated being sick but I wanted to do everything and play in the tournament. Maybe I would have been just a little smarter about the sleep.

    -RG

  17. I understand totally. I have ended up in that scenario several times throughout my life as I tried to handle everything myself to insure that it was done the way I wanted. I made the choices and ended up with the crappy sickness or headache. God just let me do it because I clearly decided to. He is not to blame for my stupidness.
