Mindset Maintenance

Posted By: Randy GageFebruary 14, 2012

Last post we looked at how you keep your mindset of success by continuing to challenge yourself.  Let’s look at some other ways…

Number one on the list for me:  daily self-development time.  I start off each day with prayer, exercise, and studying something positive.  Mostly I read, but sometimes it’s audio or video.

I don't answer the door, I don't answer the phone, I don’t leave the house – until my consciousness is at a high level.  When you set your consciousness high, you attract people and circumstances that are also vibrating at a high level.

Another big one on the list:  who is around you.  Jim Rohn used to say your income would be the average of the five people you spend the most time with.  That’s true for all areas of prosperity like health, relationships and happiness.

Before you let someone in your inner circle, you better make sure they hold a higher vision and have your best interests at heart.  And if they don't, you may have to limit your access to them.  And if they’re really toxic, you may have to get away from them completely.  (For more on this, see the video here.)

And the third thing is vision.  You need to have a clear, compelling vision that pulls you toward it.  If you’re in a bad state right now, that might just be monetary for you.  You may simply want to get out of debt, or have a little security.  Once those needs are met, your vision usually transforms into something with more meaning and significance.  Find the right vision and your mindset won’t be an issue.

So what about you?  How do you relate to these three things?  What other suggestions do you have for keeping your mindset where you want it?

  1. Of course I am with you on all these points. I have at my job had to come later in the morning than I did previously because my colleagues are extremely interested in news and weather and to talk about other people's problems. To avoid being such, I have something positive to listen to all day, and I have books with me. As a Man Thinketh among others. As soon as I get the opportunity I read during the day, break time is good time to read on. Otherwise, one can solve soduku during the breaks

  3. RG,

I think this is one of the best posts you have ever written. I know that when I don't start my day off with my spiritual practices, than I am constantly thinking about re-starting my day. The only other thing I do is keep a grattitude journal. I write down 5 things every morning that I am grateful for. Sometimes it is as simple as the great class I had last night at Unity or the great guest speaker I listened too at Unity on the Bay...

I am also releasing negative thinking during meditation and cleansing my mind .

    Thanks,

    Jim

  5. Yes, these 3 things are very important for me.

Morning self development time appears to be the easiest thing, but it is a habit that needs regularity... and I am still in the process.

I am "cleaning" human resources around me now . I am highly sociable person. I afraid before that I could stay without friends. Although I communicate much more less, but in much higher quality.

And vision helps me stop fear of the unknown and of the new calling in life. Vision also stops fear of loneliness that comes up with people cleaning.

  7. Randy, thanks to you every morning I train my mind ... I listen to JB, I read the books but I do first when I wake up? I thank God for the day. Meditate and then continuing in self-education. As for the people around me? Space is cleared. I have long wanted to close relationships with parents. It seemed strange. But you know, the truth was that I needed to "clean up" relationships with parents, to define the boundaries. And things started to change. Regarding the vision, I also reviewed here, I realized what it was clarifying. Now I feel great and continue to change, there is still to do.

    Thank you. M.

  11. Hey Randy

I think it's important to stay excited about doing personal development so my best tip is to make sure you have enough material to plug into. That way I really look forward to my quiet time each day and am less tempted to skip it to jump right into work. Thanks for this great post.

  13. I think you just nailed it right on the head with this article. It's so important to start your day off in a good way, and these things you listed are fantastic ways of doing it. So thank you for the reminder my friend, it's always needed.

But looking at it from a different view to what you just said, I think we sometimes are way too hard on ourselves, at least I know I am, and set the bar way too high half of the time instead of just giving yourself a break and be proud and happy with smaller accomplishments, (because not everything has to be sky high every single time.) I've learnt this the hard way. It's so easy getting caught up with moving forward; that you have to do certain things every day, often in a certain order and at certain times, and sometimes this hinders real creativity to flow. Also, if (actually, WHEN) you fail to do everything on your daily list: be it read, meditate, excercise, pray, journaling, wake up early, be grateful, whatever, it may lead to you beating yourself up which is totally unnecessary.

I've been doing bodybuilding for many years and know the importance of giving yourself a break to just BE from time to time. This is when you get stronger and get new fresh ideas on how to tackle thing, and also an urge to get back in the action again, fueled and ready to go. (This obviously applies to anything you do, not just bodybuilding.) When you follow a schedule too slavishly, like a lot of commentors on your blog always seem to do, you basically stop the flow of everything that's really unique with your person and what's inside waiting to come out and shine. Granted, to get better you have to work on yourself every day and start yourself off with a positive mindset. I couldn't agree more with you on this and have been doing this for a couple of years now. But my point is that even though this is good, sometimes it's better to just be and not "push" to much. Sometimes it's good to leave your shield at home and just head out there and crash into things so to speak; if you've read and done enough in your life you should be able to learn major things from doing this.

Thank you for this article, like I said earlier, it's a great reminder to "shield" yourself for the day and handle things better. I think routines are very good but can also trap you in a box at times. Variation is key. Maybe you guys should do the opposite tomorrow, just head out there and see what happens, then read some stuff in the evening and write about all the happenings during your unprotected day... you'll most definitely learn something from that too. Cheers!

      Thanks,

      Jim
