Mental Aerobics…

Posted By: Randy GageJune 6, 2009

Ok it’s a lazy Saturday and I’m not feeling very prolific.  So instead of a usual post let me give you another brainteaser to get your neuro pathways open.  Here’s your challenge:

Mr. and Mrs. Jones are sitting outside a restaurant with their two sons and a nephew, waiting for another member of the family to arrive.   A man walks past, and both Mrs. Jones and her nephew immediately exclaim, “Hello Father.”  Explain.

Post your answer below.  The first person to get it right earns fame and adoration from the masses.

  1. I'm agree with you. It's a lazy saturday. About the coments...

    He’s a priest!

    GERMAN FROM CALI COLOMBIA

  2. The nephew's father, who is the brother of Mr Jones is a priest. Therefore Mr Jones is unlikely to call him Father.

  3. You are all wrong...

It was their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom they are all little children.

Of course, being that any priest must consider himself of the Body of Christ, then technically, saying a "priest" is almost correct, using the associative law of mathematics.

Which is of course from God too.

Meaning also, that since we are ALL of the body of Christ-whether we want to be or not- anyone who EVER calls someone else "Father" is correct.

If you call someone "Mother" however, unless your actual Mother, is grounds for a fight, as it is undoubtedly short for an expletive.

Those of you who did not understand this must go directly to Hell, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

    I have spoken.

  4. This is pretty darn obvious the man walking past Mre.Jones and nephew is there Pastor or Priest from their local church.

  5. The father has donated his sperm to Mrs. Jones Brothers wife!!!!
    Make sence?

Hi from Sweden bye the way! We´re celebrating our National Day by solving this crazy brainteeser!

The purpose of life is to be happy so we are! It´s much more fun!

  6. Reminding me of an old song -
Many, many years ago when I was 23,
I was married to a wider who was purty as can be.
This wider had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red
My father fell in love with her and soon they two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law and changed my very life
For my daughter was my mother cause she was my father's wife
To complicate the matter even though it brought me joy,
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy.

    I'm my own grandpa,
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa.

My little baby then became a brother-in-law to dad,
And so became my uncle though it made me very sad.
For, if he was my uncle, then that also made him brother
Of the wider's grown-up daughter who, of course, was my step-mother.

My father's wife then had a son who kept them on the run,
And he became my grandchild for he was my daughter's son.
My wife is now my mother's mother and it makes me blue
Because, although she is my wife, she's my grandmother too.

    I'm my own grandpa,
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa.

Oh, if my wife is my grandmother, then I'm her grandchild.
And every time I think of it, it nearly drives me wild
For now I have become the strangest case you ever saw
As husband of my own grandmother, I'm my own grandpa.

    I'm my own grandpa,
    I'm my own grandpa
    It sounds funny I know
    But it really is so
    I'm my own grandpa

What was the questions, I was dozing off in the summer afternoon... ~tj

  7. I see nobody attempted my question

What does Father Christmas do in the summer.

SO the answwer is he helps a local farmer conytrol his weeds

    Hoe Hoe Hoe!!!!!!

  8. Interesting answers! Having the opportunity to stretch my creativity I would have said, (after the initial answer of a priest) that the restaurant is named Fathers and the man was the owner known to his customers as "father".

  9. Here's a rare but totally possible scenario:

The Nephew is the son of Mr. Jones sister.
The Sister’s husband “the Father”, then had a second marriage with Mrs. Jones Mother.

(I say totally possible, since with kids age differences and with marriage partner age differences it’s possible for the Sister to be at least 20 years older than Mr. Jones, thereby the Nephew be same age as Mr. Jones.
Mr. Jones may have married Mrs. Jones at least 20 years younger than himself.
So it’s possible for the FATHER (of the Nephew) and Mrs. Jones mother to be of the same age.)

Thanks for the brain tease 😉

  10. Just make a quick comment on my point above;
Obviously part of the question is “why did only Mrs Jones and the Nephew call him father” if he was a priest, Mr. Jones should’ve also called him father….

  11. Either the "Father" is a priest or he is actually the Father of both the nephew and Mrs Jones, meaning he married a pair of sisters, and had children with both!

Lou Lou, you same thinking... You get the Fame and Adoration...

    Cheers!

    Federico

  12. Federico, (thanks for the fame)

I wanted to go with a more ethical scenerio, the Father marrying 2 sisters or marrying his first wife's mother didn't feel so right on an esteemed RG blog.

    Cheers all
