Make an Appointment

Posted By: Randy GageMay 25, 2011

When life gets too busy and hectic, I make an appointment to watch the sunset in Key West, or the sunrise wherever I happen to be.  Those few moments connect me with the Divine again, and let all the distractions fade away into the nothingness from where they come.

So what about you?   What kind of things do you set appointments for?

Having a dinner with conversation with your family

Spending the whole day with your child

Meditating

Watching the sunset

Reading

Writing in your journal

Looking at the full moon

Reading your child a story

Laying in the hammock

To pray

Exercise

It’s easy to get sidetracked with busy-ness and forget some of the really important things in life.  One of the important lessons of prosperity is taking time to serve yourself, not just others.  To rest and renew.

So what are you going to schedule?  Give a shout below and let us know.

  1. I listen to my Centerpointe Research CD's, in particular the Dive and Immersion to take me into an instant Zen Mediation......the best meditation ever!!!! I also work out almost everyday:)

  2. I try to always set an appointment to meditate and exercise daily. If my mind & body aren't in good shape - I'm pretty much useless.

  3. Tonight is special, as it is my grandson Sams birthday, he is now 4 years young, and I look very much forward to talk to him on Skype, so I can hear everything about his day :).
Otherwise I find peace in myself, closing my eyes focusing on just being there comfortably, that is a great state to be in. And then I LOVE MY BOOKS - Mostly on selfdevelopment as they give great cognitions and ideas. I have one favorite, that is actually not a selfdevelopmentbook, well I think it is, and it's beautifully written. It's Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. And when you talk about sunsets Randy, nothing is more beautifull than the sunset at the Danish westcoast, you should experiance that sometime, you will love it.

  4. Family dinner, tick. Just got off Facebook, booking our yng adult kids for dinner chez Mum & Dad (fresh asparagus from the garden!)

I am blessed to live a life of much leisure time, altho I'm predicting that may change as I do more & more of my purpose-full work. (small subc. fear that working on purpose is still WORK, maybe even --ick!--Hard Work. I admit, whenever I hear a leader in my MLM biz say, "...it took hard work..." I slide rapidly into de-motivation. I just can't believe that 'working hard' is virtuous. Question for Randy, since you are a person who is very much "on purpose". Do you find your work "hard"?)

In so far as "connecting with the Divine" - I know full well that we are all, always, connected with the Divine, we are what I like to call "particulates of the Divine". So when watching a sunset, etc., I am not re-cnnecting; I am noticing that I am connected. The more I do that, the more that awareness becomes my standard operating mode. This is "Practicing [the awareness of] the presence of God" as Bro. Lawrence would say. He did it while scrubbing out the pots & pans. I'm challenged to do it while loading the dishwasher. Onwards & Upwards!

  5. I really work hard at spending some alone time with my little girl everyday. It's special daddy and daughter time. Also Friday nights is date night with my wife which consists of a movie and relaxing on the couch a lot of times. We also go out to dinner at times, the main thing is just being together. These are some of the best times in life to me. Love my family.

  6. I enjoy listening to the soft tunes from Pandora, sitting back on a quiet deck, during the evening watching the sunset while visualizing the details of my next goal.

  7. I scheduled my weekend for the holiday and there is some business, exercise, as well as personal development...but I also scheduled the beach twice and the waterfalls near where I live and a sunset walk. I am more excited for the weekend than ever. ~~~~~~

  8. I put on my Life In Balance CD with the flute and the crystal bowls vibrating and instantly start to mellow out. It's the best. Thank God for modern technology!

  9. Enjoying the local fruits in season, now it's like mangosteens, durian, rambutans and mangoes. Taking bus rides accompanied by my MP3/4 and Iphone with bible, then went to a movie "Jane Eyre' to chill out and enjoy.Oh, I forgot, also popped in at my grand children's place where we sang acapella, "Jesus, loves me this I know etc etc. Had a great time too! Abundant blessings to you Randy from Suzanne

  10. I need to get to the ocean & soak in it for a day. To read, write and meditate as well and I'm aiming for this weekend to get time alone. xoxo

  11. I watch the sunrise with friends every Saturday morning on South Beach -- when I'm in town...have been watching with them since 1991. Then we share our spiritual week in review. Great way to end and start a week.

  12. It took me what seems like forever to embrace this ... that I was worth my own time. It's easy to lose yourself when you care for many, follow rainbows, build dreams. 🙂 Everyone needs time to replenish the internal well.

Today, you reminded me to book an appointment with a bubblebath. I know it will be delightful ~ oh, and some epiphany always comes to me when I'm submerged in water, so watch out!

... I'll be sure to thank you for that tomorrow! 😉

Learn this - self care is not selfish, but self-ful... a distinct difference.

  13. Sometimes it is nice to just do nothing. It is harder than it sounds for some people. It is kinda like accepting silence in a conversation.

I think a lot of us including myself feel guilty about it, but let's not. Unless it is in avoidance of something.

The next thing is play. Nothing will delight your child within more than taking time to play. Buy a toy for your inner child or a stuffed animal or something. PLAY! C'mon you know you want to. 🙂 ie. color in a color book, or play with some toy cars, and don't forget to hug a stuffed bunny! Games are fun too.

    1. Hmm... Just thinking some more. I don't actually schedule too much. Like that ant and the grasshopper story, I am more of a GRASSHOPPER. So, if I have to schedule anything, it's work, because recreation is just a part of my nature.

  14. I've found as I evolve, time increases. For me, it's been all about quality, not quantity. I sat down a time ago and really looked at all the things I was cramming into a day. After doing that exercise for about a week, it was crystal clear that 80% of what I was doing could be done by someone else or eliminated completely. That gave me freedom, which is I think what all of us are after, even more than money, because money gives you freedom. I do keep a routine where exercise, meditation, reading, and traveling are concerned. My children are grown and leading busy lives, so instead of chit chat and text, we plan what we call, "memory moments", where we get together and do something or nothing. I love to be home, and I love to cook, so family dinners and an evening walk on the beach are one of my favorite memory moments to experience with my loved ones.

  15. I practice Tai Chi, you get to reconnect and improve your health at the same time while reducing stress re-energising. Simply brilliant!

  16. I try to schedule time each week to read for myself - on average I read a book a week. Tho all personal development books - haven't read a novel in years... Normally my kids watch TV once a week - a couple of DVD's on a weekend morning and I read in that time.

One of the days of the weekend I turn off the computer and we have one day outing together... the other day is a pyjama day - total day of rest where we relax, read, tidy and get changed late if at all!

Daily I read to my kids, tuck them in bed and sing to them. The song is a made up one - of love, prayer, gratitude for them...

Daily we sit at the table or have a picnic outside together and chat about our day. Our conversation is "ROSE, CROWN and THORN" - What we appreciate/went well, what we're proud of in ourselves, and something that hurt/went wrong to clear it up. This is the same conversation - whether friends are here or not. Every day!

I try to massage my kids each week... and daily try to do something special - like a game - that lets them know they are loved. I used to do this NIGHTLY... so I'm slacking up!

I exercise at 7am EVERY morning (wouldn't do it if my neighbour didn't knock!)... 6 days a week, and the 7th is the day for me to read. I get up before my kids are up mostly to exercise with my neighbour who wanted support losing weight! Bonus for me!

I USED to meditate 3-8 hours a day (more on retreat)... and would love to up my game to that amount. But that was BEFORE kids! I'd love to do 2-3 horus a day!

I live next to a stream, and trees... so I'm lucky to easily breath in the life force...

With my kids father leaving the country I was trying to spend half an hour doing games of Love - that was a miracle of love doing these games. I'd like to do that again- even 10 minutes before our usual nightly routine. So their whole lives are filled with memories of this "hour of love!" These are specific exercises to build attachment and healthy bonding... So awesome to bring kids into the world able to have profoundly deep, connected, relationships - that I work on DAILY... So that they know as adults that relationships take DAILY input! I want them to grow up knowing that an APPOINTMENT for LOVE comes FIRST... Daily! I shall start tomorrow again... Each day make a plan of 1-5 games of love, and fill my kids up to overflowing!

Thanks RG - writing this up makes me realise just how much I'm living what I teach... and able to see why friends say my kids are so unique and special, and so strong in their communication.

Phew - still a long way to go... but I'm getting there... THanks for your inspiration, support, and belief!

  17. I take time to do sports. Doing parkour is really great because I´m forced to listen to my self and push my self beyond my limits by overcoming obstacles in my mind. It´s like meditation in movement.

  18. My favourite place was my family farm. There is a high hill and I remember a major turning point in my life a few years back, I sought out that hill. So high and rocky my brother had to drive me up there in the tractor. I sat at the top of it for a whole day, looking down on the farmhouse, the cattle, horses, the odd car going to town in front of a pile of dust. Everything was so tiny from up there. You could see for miles through the valley and it was so quiet and peaceful. I thought to myself the world could end and we wouldn't know about it

Somewhere late in the afternoon, I found peace and when I did I realised the problems/issues I was worried about, were really as small as the farmhouse and cattle, as they looked, from up on the hill.

Now I am in the city, I head for the water. Balmoral Beach in Sydney has a little mini island where you can be with yourself and away from the crowds. You can step back from the world, then when you are ready, you can step back into it when you walk over the tiny bridge.

  19. I was just thinking about this very thing today - to schedule some downtime - away from all forms of communication especially.

  20. Yoga.

Looking forward to spending a day a week with my Mom.

Walking by the ocean admiring the salt marsh and sky.

    Museums.

    Time with good friends.

  21. I need to do my stretching in the morning ...24/7 in front of the computer is not the most relaxing habit I have. This gives also time for mind to plan and organize the day ahead.

During the day I can call my best mate Daina ... she has this calmness that drives me nuts, because it feels like we don't get anything done ... but then my mind switches, I relax, we laugh about my "grumpiness" and things are moving.

Otherwise nature helps me a lot to relax ... I have a weekly appointment with the beach, the waves and the sun.
We should really embrace more that we live in paradise on earth.

  22. I,m going to spend the whole weekend with my beautiful, cute and lovely niece. I have not seen her since three weeks ago. She is four years old, you don't know how much I love her, so this will be my gift to myself, my wonderful appointment!!

    Ximena

  23. To return to my focus and serenity, many times, I talk with god deep inside me, I go out with my kids and wife, read personal development books, I talk few minutes with my mentors (RG, MV), watch properity TV, I pray for serenity and focus, look at the world from a perspective that helps me to enjoy beautiful everything is around me today, I also listen to classical music or relaxation and meditation, a simple walk along the beach alone
    A hug Gabriel

  24. I'm working with a yoga instructor, she had me pull out a meditation card. It read, "Don't give it all away, save some for yourself." To your point, its easy to leave the "I" out of our day.

  25. Just wandering on the Dvortsovaya embankment...we have our famous White Night in summer, so, it's my favourite time...maybe,it's your too, isn't it?)))

  26. Thank you Randy for this simple reminder and gift. The big truth is always in the small and simple details.

    Shai

  27. To serve yourself and not just others. Let us remember that one. Thanks for the reminder.
