Live Rich

Posted By: Randy GageApril 22, 2015

I was working on the elliptical machine when the BBC began flashing their BREAKING NEWS headline. Turns out it was a jewel heist, replete with photos of a shattered vault, and bored tunnels through concrete. It was the kind of romantic headline we had when I was a kid.

A basic jewel theft, probably by a cat burglar, a simple enough crime, soon to be solved by Batman, Spider-man or Remington Steele.

Our headlines today are Ebola pandemics, ISIS throwing homosexuals off rooftops, flesh-eating bacteria, Boko Haram kidnapping schoolgirls to be sex slaves, and possible nuclear annihilation.   So forgive me for feeling a little romantic for the days when the headlines were about robberies and ballplayers cheating on their spouses.

But of course the word wasn’t really so simple even 50 years ago. We’d survived two devastating world wars, the major superpowers were on the brink, and here in the States our president had been assassinated. We still had tribes that hated each other, there were still dishonest people and planes sometimes crashed.

The difference today is people can send fighter jets or missiles to attack the far-away people they don’t like; the internet can spew hate worldwide in an instant, and the population has doubled, with all of the challenges that come from that.  The religious zealots seem scarier, the hate levels seem higher, and chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are proliferating in the hands of some very frightening people.  To top it all off,  we have a datasphere that can instantly report every bad and negative calamity that happens anywhere on the globe real time, 24/7.

Who can blame a guy (or gal) for pining away for a simpler time?

Alas, we don’t have that luxury. So what is a person with prosperity consciousness to do, when faced with a world of mayhem and destruction, which seems hell-bent on self-destruction? How does one win against such seemingly insurmountable odds?

Prosperity begins with you.

You can start by living rich. Wake up with gratitude, celebrate life and cherish the people and moments around you. Get the money thing out of the way. Find ways to serve, not because you’re obligated to, but because you desire to.

People who are hurting are hard-pressed to help the afflicted. Become successful yourself. Get your own needs met.  Please. Live rich.

Then view the world with compassion, live by the principle of fair exchange, but try your best to out-give the universe.

Say ‘thank you.’

Over tip.

Speak for those who can’t speak for themselves.

Take care of the street musicians and the buskers.

Mentor someone.

Smile more.

Forgive everyone. Including yourself.

Recycle.

Support the arts. Lots of them.

Show gratitude for the soldiers that protect your country.

Have lunch in the park.

Send someone flowers.

Respect the elderly.

Give someone a hug.

Schedule a sunrise viewing.

Find a charity you believe in and support it.

Allow dignity and rights to every human you meet.

These actions may seem simple, almost inconsequential to the challenges we face. But that’s the only way we make the world a better place: One person at a time, beginning with ourselves.

So when the headlines seem darker and the situation seems dire, I travel back to my days at Unity on the Bay, where we ended each service holding hands and singing “The Peace Song,” written in 1955 by Jill Jackson Miller and Sy Miller. It begins and ends, the same way:

Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

Because one thing is certain: No matter how hard you may try – you can’t out-give the universe. Live rich and you’ll make the world richer for it.

  1. Beautiful RG.. I'm grateful you've circled back to what's most important.. showing gratitude for the blessings we share. I find that even simple things like being at the market and engaging with the staff rather than ignoring them leaves a smile on their face.. Even the 'How are you doing today" makes a difference since most people don't bother to ask. The little things are VERY important and make us feel good too 🙂

  2. "You can start by living rich. Wake up with gratitude, celebrate life and cherish the people and moments around you." GREAT ARTICLE!

  3. Reminds me a time when my Mom and her companion said they wouldn't want to be coming up in the world now, and I said, oh yeah, much better to grow up in a depression and a world war..  they had the grace to laugh.. any time a doom and gloomer starts, I either I say no, the world is getting better or get away from them.. I remember when I said to a friend after getting over a brutal pneumonia, I wonder what happened a 100 years ago when they didn't have antibiotics and he said, you died.. that was a real sobering thought.. damn right I'm grateful.. .

  4. Randy, although you are "pining" for the old days, I don't think you are an old fart, yet - you don't start every sentence with "In my day...".  I am 58 and still play 3rd base for a semi-pro baseball team (I attribute it to clean living, proper nutrition, and going to bed early; ok,ok, it's the booze, loose women, and boat load of  'roids - hey, if politicians can spew bullshit, why not me?).  I figure I will give up playing when someone hits me the ball and I start screaming, "I told you little bastards not to hit this into my yard!  Now, I'm going to keep it!"

  6. Thank you so much, Randy!  This post, all your posts, your videos and your books are so clear and full of a light-hearted trust in the Universe.  I deeply appreciate the generous ways that you are helping me to understand the laws of the Universe, so I can align myself with them.  What you shared in the video on the Law of Forgiveness about forgiving the doctors who left a bullet in you, (etc.), supported me in my choice to forgive those who crushed me in my childhood with torture and every sort of violence.
Your fresh, clear heart is so evident and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a light in the world and helping me to manifest prosperity in all it's forms into my life.
    Sincerely and respectfully,  Veronica Wanchena

  7. Randy, this is a great post. When I first started to get into personal development, I read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey and the chapter that has effected me the most is focused on the Circle of Influence and the Circle of Concern. The circle of concern is basically all of the headlines that you mentioned in your post, things you have no control over. And then the Circle of Influence is all of the things that you listed to do that involves things that you CAN personally control. Unfortunately, we tend to spend more time wringing our hands about all of the things out of our hands while time passes by where we can spend more of that time doing things that we can influence. Time passes by and we come to a point where our time is running out. If we are to get past this we have to focus more time on the things we can control and those things are our thoughts and our actions.

  8. Love this Randy.  Too often we are brainwashed into thinking that we should deprive ourselves out of some misguided idea that this leaves more for others.  Nothing could be further from the truth.
    Thanks for the reminder.

  9. Randy, this is truly a great post; a great message. Many people don't know about "environmental & cultural conditioning" ; conditioning that must be re-programmed for success, if we are to live rich.
As you recommend: shift your spiritual thoughts to your spiritual consciousness, and get the money thing out of the way.. this is where we begin.  thankyou, thankyou, thankyou....

  10. @Veronica  I feel the same way about Randy's work, it's helped me immensely too. We need to be diligent about sharing his work to promote the cause of prosperity consciousness being a choice.
I strongly recommend his Prosperity Cd's if your haven't got those cd's already, sister in Prosperity!

  11. RG, Great post. Since the universe is an environment and not an entity, I'm not sure it's "giving" anything, but it's a nice sentiment all the same. The more society evolves from the ethereal to the real, the better off we will be. The sooner we realize that it's up to us to heed your advice in this post, the better chance of our survival as a species, not to mention our own happiness. Thanks for posting, Randy.
