When Life Sucks

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 10, 2015

Ran into a member of my tribe recently, who uses a wheelchair. He’s earnestly trying to approach life in a positive way, but like us all, he sometimes falters.  He wanted my advice of his situation, warily telling me, “sometimes I think it sucks.”

I think he was shocked when I not only agreed with him, but also suggested it probably sucked most of the time.  I suppose it’s fun to roll downhill sometimes and cool to get on the airplane first.  But most of the time being in a wheelchair probably sucks.

But here’s the thing about having situations in our lives that suck…

We all have them. They’re different for us all, but we all have some.  I don’t need a wheelchair, but my schedule of necessary spinal surgeries sucks.  You may not need a wheelchair (or might), but you also have things in your life that suck.

But those things that suck don’t have to prevent you from being happy, successful, or prosperous.    They’re simply the seasoning in the crockpot, the fiber in your diet, the yin to balance the yang.

With no challenges, you’d never develop character.  With no obstacles, you would never grow your consciousness; never gain strength.

You would never have the wisdom and maturity you now possess without the trials and setbacks you experienced.

Survive and grow, and celebrate it all. Because it’s all part of this multi-faceted, glorious adventure we call…life.

  1. Well stated RG.. Was watching "The Theory of Everything" last night for the second time and talk about challenge! Hawking is beyond most in how he handled the surprise of his disease which as you know worsened over the years. We can all learn from someone like him especially due to how strongly he believed in himself and what is possible.

  2. Hi RG this is just my opinion which totally agrees with your statement all the way. We are so wrapped up into our minds at times it's amazing we can function. At times I feel that  "old sayings" prove correct you can look at the glass half full or empty, positive influence or opposite. I really liked the article, best thing to do is live the best life you can or know how to survive. Thank you for directing me to this, I get a good feeling reading this.

  3. I can relate to the spinal surgeries, and lots of other sucky things, but life is a wonderful thing.

  4. That's so true Randy, we all have something, even if other people don't see it or know about it. You can either be a victim or a victor... I choose to be a victor! Play the hand you were dealt the best that you can. 😉

  5. Randy,
You had mentioned in a recent Periscope talk that the problem with this world is that people settle and do not fulfill their dreams.  I totally agree with you, but what is one to do?   If it is just too hard to get into something, settling would be deadly- might as well bury yourself in an early grave, but enduring sometimes seems impossible and others tell you to just give up and be realistic.  Like, if the obstacle is a brick wall, how does one go through it?

  6. wow... i know what i'm vibrating re my emotion is a big piece... being vigilant re my thoughts is a key for sure...
thank you Randy for your always wise wisdom... wx (((o)))
