Letting Go

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 24, 2009

A while back, I was sitting in the Tampa airport waiting to go home.   A severe summer thunderstorm came from seemingly nowhere, suspending all flights.

The terminal has a corrugated aluminum roof, so you could hear the rain pounding a harsh drumbeat.  Spectacular lightning flashes could be seen throughout the horizon.

I didn’t want to leave late, as I had been on the road a great deal.  But how could I argue with the cosmic light and sound show I was being provided for free?  I got a soymilk hot chocolate from Starbucks, and settled in for the premier.

Some things we can control.  And some we have to let go.  How you doing on that?

  1. Getting a little better at this one, I really like to be in control of everything. You can ask my wife, my parents, and some of my close friends, they will all agree that I like to be in control. I have noticed that by letting go of some things, I have more energy for other things!

  2. I've learned to live with what I cannot control, and be effective and enabling with what I can control. It is, what it is! : )

  3. If something beyond our control prevents us from doing what we wanted to do, after exploring all possible ways, then we just have to let go. There is a more powerful hand that is in control of this universe, I call him God. I know whatever happen happens for a reason. It may not be in line with what we have planned, sometime against it. Just let it go. For me usually after I let go, then i realized that things happen to my advantage. Some people call it faith.

  4. Its something I have learned to do but I can still find it challenging to let go!
But I believe that if my Creator is delaying me there is a reason for it. Maybe if I wasnt stuck in the traffic jam I would be in a road traffic accident a few miles down the road.
I remember reflecting on my life recently and suddenly thought "What if this is the way it was MEANT to be?".
At some level we are all trying to change things all the time but that question really got me thinking!
Gods delays are NOT God's denials!

  5. When you really let go, wonderful things happen to you.
About three weeks ago, I had a very bad experience at work. I really didn't see it coming and I had to resign (actually I was asked to resign). I was heart broken. Couldn't believe that had happen to me. I was devastated. Trying to find the reason why this happen to me. I felt very alone. But then one morning I was listening to a CD and the person said "sometimes you just have to let go". It was so funny because it was like a breath of fresh air. It's as if the weight of the world had just lifted from my shoulders.
I was greatful to hear those few words of wisdom 2 days after this bad situation had happen to me. Now I know for certain that this situation happen for something. I was not suppose to continue doing what I was doing so the universe find a way of getting me out of there, that's all.
Everything happens for a reason. Maybe that storm was there for you to stay put for a few hours, so you were protected from something else. Or, you just needed to relaxe and look at the show...

  6. I find it very difficult to let it go. Even throwing out old stuff, clothes, movie tickets, old memories .. Now I m facing divorce and I am scared , worried and very unhappy. I know i sould let it go, but it is very hard.

  7. Randy,

I have a ver old Saying, "We Are Always at the Right Place at the right time, even if she Appears like a Disaster, Leet go and go with the Flow! As one leaves the Expections (comfort Zone) then one can never be dis-appointed!

  8. I LOVE those moments Randy! AT first you're all tensed up because your focus is "what I gotta do" which in the end is the ego talking. Then the Universe lends a hand to slow you down for just a bit. I am extremely grateful for these moments when all you get to do is sit and breathe:) Like you I'll get a soy caramel machiato, pull out my gratitude journal and start to count my blessings!

  9. The first thing that came to mind was a statement that proliferates what was a Life changing book for me, "Conversations with God".

The statement is, "What you resist, persists. What you truly look at disappears". Letting go means dropping your resistance, which for myself and I'm sure many others, is challenging. But when we DO let go, what's possible and likely will be amazing..

It's just the letting go and dropping the resistance that challenges us..

    Thanks Randy!

  10. I have a saying, "Let go and let God". Basically what is intended to happen will happen and us fighting it will not change a thing. Life is about the journey not the destination so relax and enjoy the view.

    excellent post, Randy!

  11. The weather is way too big for us to control therefore we have to 'tell' ourselves to let God.
The real test of 'letting go & letting God) comes when we are put in a situation with people who are deemed 'weaker' 'meeker' 'poorer' 'less educated' than us. Do we let them be them (let go & let God) or do we make sure they follow the way we think is right?

  12. In my experience I have learned that we cannot control others' personalities, especially in a romantic relationship...

I think the main point of letting go is to let the Universe take charge of the things we need and desire.
