Illogical Abundance

Posted By: Randy GageFebruary 24, 2010

On Monday’s post I raised the issue of “the good stuff,” and whether you give it to yourself.  Most people don’t.

I can understand why.  If you think about it logically, you could never justify buying a First Class airline ticket.  Can you quantify how much better a $5,000 suit is over a $1,000 one?  Do you really need to spend $50 dollars more for the room with the ocean view?  Can you justify paying $45,000 more for your condo to get on the water view side of the building instead of the city view?  Isn’t it wasteful to spend money on fresh flowers?  Do you really need cable TV, let alone satellite?   Can you really make the case for spending the extraordinary amount of extra money that anything from Prada costs?

Well the answer on all of these is probably no.  And yes.

The truth is, good shoes are a good investment for your health and career.  A pair of Bally or Santoni loafers mold to your feet like warm butter.  They also are well made and will last a lot longer than cheap shoes.  Plastic shoes are bad for your feet.

A good wool suit will travel better and look better.  A cheaper one will wrinkle just riding to your job interview, fall apart sooner, and start to look “shiny” after a few pressings.  A water view condo will hold its value and be easier to sell later.  So there really are some logical reasons for buying quality things, instead of cheap ones.

And of course there are lots of logical reasons to cut costs and save money on things…

I spend $250 a week on fresh flowers.  If I saved that and invested it, imagine what it would end up over time.  But I love having fresh flowers in my home.  (And it seems everyone that visits slaps themselves in the head and wonders why they don’t do it.)

If you save that $45,000 on the condo, you can invest it in your daughter’s college fund.  You can buy five $1,000 suits instead of one $5,000 one, etc.  And of course we certainly can’t forget all the good guilt arguments…

“You could save that money and give it to the church.  There are poor people starving.  We need to save the whales/rainforests/starving children in Africa/etc.”

So here’s my problem with all that…

Those arguments are based on the idea of prosperity being a finite resource.  Where I believe just the opposite.  I believe you can buy the Prada sneakers AND give money to the church.  You can buy three $5,000 suits and send money to Haiti.  You just have to make more money.

And all you have to do to make more money is raise your consciousness.  Oh and one other little detail…

You have to believe you are worth it.  So how you doing on that?

  1. AMEN BROTHER! You hit the nail right on the center of its head! It's not about the $$, it's about your THINKING and PERCEPTION of what $$ represents and the absolute belief that the amazing beautiful limitless amount of $$ is not determined by anything except our natural energy and flow of life, abundance and prosperity thinking! There is an unlimited pipeline flowing....Prosperity is boundless.

  2. "You can buy three $5,000 suits and send money to Haiti. You just have to make more money." Randy, it's obvious when you say it like that!

I am growing stronger with the idea that I deserve the best life has to offer.

Also, Randy, I consider it a waste of money to buy an item that will wear out quickly. My husband and I have a saying: Buy The Good Quality One, Not The Least Expensive One. So I shop for good quality and buy the best quality that fits in my budget. I am picky and patient enough to keep searching until I find what I want. And I keep expanding my income.

When I purchase something of excellent quality that I LIKE, I rarely have a strong urge to replace it quickly. The item brings me joy instead of twinges of regret.

  3. All I know, is anytime I see you and we say hello or good bye, I LOVE the FEEL of the clothes you wear.

I always want to run my hands along the fabric longer. So, if for a moment the experience is that joyful, I have no doubt that it's worth it to wear clothes that feel that wonderful all the time.

  4. love this thought... OMG you've hit the home run hehehe... and helped me to realize one very important point.... i need more friends like Jeanne in my life... ehehehe....

i must admit i am bad bad bad when it comes to the fresh flowers lately... opted for silk and its just NOT the same....

  5. That was the clincher at the end Randy;

Believe you are worth it! We can go through life thinking we are doing all we can to bring that abundance into our life, but it's not until those inner child issues are resolved that we can clean up our vibration and allow it to flow easily and effortlessly. 🙂

Thanks for the thought provoking words you write.

    All the best

  6. "And all you have to do to make more money is raise your consciousness. Oh and one other little detail…
You have to believe you are worth it. "

I am working on raising my prosperity consciousness & my self-worth (self esteem). That was a hard one to admit to myself. Randy's book: "Why You're Dumb, Sick & Broke... And How to Get Smart, Healthy & Rich" helped me to recognize I had some bad programming that I needed to replace.

From yesterday's post: "prosperity isn’t money & things; it is a state of mind. And poverty isn’t an absence of money & things; it is a state of mind also."

I am looking for books by Ministers about prosperity. I get a lot of negative feedback from people believing churches like Unity are a cult. (Charles Fillmore and Catherine Ponder wrote books about prosperity and they are both from the Unity church.)

I believe God wants us to be prosperous & he says it in the Bible.
The more prosperous we are, the more we can give & help others.
I also think the Talents parable says to use the gifts we are given by God. I think this includes money. Everything we have is God's and we are "manager's" of it while we are here on earth.

Does anyone know any good books about Prosperity from more traditional ministers?

  7. If your world view identifies all the mistakes and troubles, especially as you relate to them, it is difficult to impossible to accept you are worth anything that comes your way. Some have an odd idea of how much 'work' they need to put in for their fair share to be granted. This limits what others do for their fair share. Being the judge and arbiter of the world is a lonely place.

  8. Oh Chip! You just made me smile! Go buy the most beautiful flowers you see today and consider giving some to someone you love. Soon you will have many friends like me:)

  9. Randy,

Can I give you a big hug!? You said it best. Catherine Ponder said in The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity that even if you're eating pork n' beans, eat it on the best china & by candle light! I learned through Kiyosaki that it's not the matter of affording the best, it's how can I afford it? He explained to find more ways to earn the money to buy what you desire.

Bottom line though is that consciousness is the key to all of this. Are we worth it? I believe I am! I used to justify why first class or VIP...wrong!! You get what you pay for.

Economists give tips on saving money in the 'economic recess' yet that is what got us into this mess in the first place, NOT Spending any money!!

Suggestion; Write a piece on raising the consciousness so the naysayers (and you'll get some after this article) can get the point...hmm then maybe not! 🙂

  10. Now that I am thinking about it, someone from a small group that I was in also thought I was from a cult because I was in the Catholic Church growing up. Maybe some people view anything outside their church as a cult? ( I can't even say religion because in these cases they were all Christian). They didn't seem to recognize that Catholics were also Christians. The funny thing was that it was a non-denominational Christian Church.

  11. Great prosperity blog Randy!

I just recently witnessed a preacher stating to his congregation with the words which one would you rather have "health" or "money"? The preacher as well as everyone else chose "health" stating if they had there "health" they can make the money. Myself & another person blurted out both "health" & "money" and the preacher just looked at us in disgust and continued preaching his either or message but I felt that I'm worthy and deserving of having both health and money along with whatever else I truly desire.

I thank you Randy for the prosperity principles that you teach and live which has transformed my thinking in how I view myself and my life. Also stepping out and questioning my core beliefs with rational thinking.

Keep Doing What You Do Best, Randy!

  12. Great post Randy. Yes I believe that if we need to give more or have more, we just need to earn more. Unfortunately the folks running the country currently believe that we will run out of money. That is one reason that we are in great danger in this country. Give us a chance to go and earn and we as human beings will accomplish great things and enjoy life by buying $5,000 suits and flying first class because we can!!! We are made in the image of God, let's start acting like it!!!

  13. You have to believe you are worth it. So how you doing on that?
Breaking through the mentality of lack. I really liked what your wrote in your previous blog-- Money doesn't make me.

  14. You might look at the book "Money And The Meaning of Life" by Rabbi Jacob Needleman. He firmly believes that we get into financial crises by claiming and acting as if money is less important than it actually is. He points out the common element of money in almost any situation and how having more money can alleviate a goodly number of challenges. He views money as a tool to realize human potential.

Randy, I would love to hear your viewpoints about this book.

  15. When asked, "Isn't network marketing a cult?", I answer:

"Yes, it is a cult--- the kind that GIVES you money."

The typical reaction is one of amazed confusion.

  16. One thing that I am learning to do is be creative (I'm a composer and a writer) AND be successful with the business end of it all.

The message we are sent is you have to either be a savvy, totally logical, cold business person and be wildly successful or be highly creative, people oriented, and struggle. Most people are usually only successful at doing one or the other.

Why can't an artist also be an entrepreneur?

  17. So - I was telling a millionaire about your wealth philosophy.

He complained about the price of a hotel... and wanted to stay one night and drive two hours home the other night so he wouldn't have to fork out £200. Just £200 - when he's a millionaire! He didn't see why it had to be so expensive.

I told him you would say that he just needs to shift his prosperity consciousness... Cos £200 isn't that much for a room - when you consider the ease, convinience, etc

I described your spending $9000 on 10 tailored shirts, and he said "you can find 10 perfectly good quality fine threaded shirts for less than that - that's just waste."

Fun fun... Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all!

  18. I just stumbled upon your post from another site and I love it! Lately I have been letting go of negativity and all the things I've allowed to hold me back in my life and that have kept me from prospering financially and emotionally. I've realized that it's me that's been holding myself back because I didn't think I was worth it. I never felt like I was worth it. But I have only just begun to realize now that I do have a lot to offer and I AM worth it. And most everyone on this planet has the same potential - we just have to realize it. Thanks so much for this good read-I'll put it to good use!!

  19. Randy, the shoes tell the tale.
    Pleather or Leather?

I choose the miraculous treasures that this abundant universe has to offer because I AM Worth It!

Also, "I AM Prosperous" is a belief mechanism that keeps me on this path to wealth-building.

  20. Randy great blog regarding spending money with prosperity in mind. Being rich and donating money to disaster victims. I remember an article in Forbes about a Billionaire who gave away all of his profits. He's no longer a billionaire anyone who can donate that much money certainly believes sowing and reaping.

  21. It's a different mindset for sure. I can't tell you how many sculptors, photographers, musicians and other artists I have consulted with on making money with their gifts!

  23. Hey Randy,

I know that I am worth it. There is no other option since I know I am made in the image of God the creator of all great things. Now taking that from my head knowledge (wisdom) to my heart (understanding) belief! That is where the work of God is still happening in me and through my life. Thanks for sharing this with us all.
    Make it a great day!

  25. Fabulous post about Value!

Our condo market at the Humber Bay Shore in Toronto has a concentration of suites that face downtown Toronto. Those suites without a "downtown" view do indeed sell for substancially less!

Value may be in the perception but resale value is indeed proven with the view.

    Thank you

  26. bought three bouquets today... next to impossible to find here... OMG... one for my place.... one for my hair stylist plus cadburry chocolates and one for my friend at immigration....

  27. HOT DAMN... NAIL on the HEAD!!!!

    couldn't agree more....

i am the type who thinks a cell phone is just a phone a computer just a computer a car just a way to get from point A to point B a suit is just cloth, a house just a shelter, and food just life sustaining... but there is no way in hell i would rather arrive to my destination in a busted down POS, i feel much better in my ferrari, or porsche or hummer, or even at best in my beemer. when i drive up to a meeting in my hayabusa or ferrari, all heads are on me wondering who that is... i love my toys as a statement of who i am not to define me but rather to emphasis that one little aspect of me, and also as a trophy that doesnt sit on a shelf collecting dust. my cars and toys are trophies i can use, play with, and take with me as a daily hourly reminder of the accomplishment. not many people will own a ferrair in their life time. i've had three. that makes a loud and bold statement...

mobile phones, could care less about, taking pics or not, vids or not, but i gotta say one day the TV was on in the back ground and i heard "LG black label" i was like huh, who what, when, how and viola LG BL40 black label on my list.... soon as it arrives here its in my pocket or i will just go to singapore to grab one, and the LG GD910 how cool is a watch phone??? now thats HOT.... definately have to get some new french cuff shirts to accommodate this watch.

my fine china??? no such thing... its everyday... if i am eating alone or entertaining or with the family... only the best or at least top notch....

i am an average looking joe, most people without knowing a thing about me always think i am a computer programmer or coder or some such thing. when they hear what i actually do they dont believe it. but heads turn, eyes are glued to me, and egos are in check when i roll up to a meeting or event in a ferrari and i step out in a custom made suit, tie, braces and shoes. and personally i gotta say, it doesnt matter if anyone notices me or not because it feels damn good to know my suit is one of the best, my car rocks, and my shoes are like feathers on my feet....

when you're around other successful people they take notice of these things.... they notice if the buttons on your suit jacket are ornamental or can actually unbutton. they notice the "rack" wrinkle between the shoulder blades of your suit jacket, they notice if your suit pants have a 1.5 inch cuff or less, or if they are half break or full break. they notice the weave of your shirt, and if the weave and stripes line up, and the cut of your tie.

this is not about labels, this is way past labels, some of the best labels the average person wouldn't even know of if they saw it or not.

arriving in style, eating in style, not for the sake of living large, but for the sake of living to the fullest. that says alot about who we are as a person, as a coach, as a business man and woman, and about how we treat ourselves.

you're absolutely right, the things we buy and have are not who we are, they are an extension of us. although i have never owned a bentley... hehehe... i noticed too many people buying them so the allure has worn off. that whole uniqueness thing" i'm a slave to it, i'll admit it... hehehe the vanquish and vantage when i saw will smith's custom car in one of his vids i was like GOTTA HAVE IT... but then its in the bond movies and on every other street corner in L.A. and i saw a few in houston so i just passed... now that i am in southeast asia, i almost never see one... hmmmmm..... lol....

like the XJ220, i was talking with a friend of mine about it when we pulled into a luxury used car lot in bangkok, while she was taking care of her business i was walking around and there it was sitting in the back showroom floor, almsot as if it was BRAND NEW.... but the moment i saw it, i was floored, to think the xj220 of all places, in bangkok. i talked to the owner of the lot, and he wanted to sell it because four others are in thailand at the time, and when he said that, it was the very reason it got checked off my list. it is a beautiful car, just not as attractive any more. ;o)

i guess thats why i love my custom suits so much, no one else in the world has my same suit... not the same cut or the exact same design because every custom suit is further customized by me and my tailor....

like you i am attracted to the clean lines and the subtle nuances that distinguish the best, from the rest.

like you i believe high quality clothes last longer, and there is nothing like an high quality itaian gabridene to keep the wrinkles away. nothing keeps more accurate time than a german or swiss made watch... and nothing beats the perfect fit of custom shoes. however, like you, i dont feel the need to justify my purchases wth statements like, lasts longer, is healthier, or anything like that. i buy it not for the label, i am pretty sure i dont own a single prada product, i buy it for me and the way it makes me feel.

even when in my custom fitted jeans and tshirt, no one else knows but me the jeans cost over $1,100.00 and the tshirt is easily a couple hundred. the fit, the exclusivity and the fact that i like it, deserve, it and can easily afford it is more than enough. it really doesnt matter who notices or not, because it reminds me and i notice...

when you're the best you dont have the yell it from the roof tops, you actually let your success speak for itself, and more people will stand and take notice.

  28. Totally agree. Prosperity is as much about giving to yourself as giving to others, and first begins in the mind - as you said believe you are worth it!

Martyrdom leaves no room for prosperity.

    Teriffic post Randy

  29. lol... i totally forgot i was trying to work on keeping my comments brief... hehehe...

this one got me fired up.... and my fingers got to typing... i'll put a post it on my lap top to remind me next time....

    love ya, peace out....
