How You See Yourself

Posted By: Randy GageJanuary 11, 2013

We’ve been talking the last couple posts about your core beliefs.  Particularly the ones about yourself.  I told you in the last post that you don’t get the prosperity you deserve – you get the prosperity you think you deserve.

So that all goes to how you see yourself…

When you see yourself in a dream or a visualization – are you in shape or overweight?

When you see a luxury yacht or a Rolls Royce – do you automatically think things like that are for other people?

When something bad happens, do you say something like, “I just knew that was going to happen!”

Conversely, when something amazing happens to you, is your first reaction something like, “I can’t believe it!”

If you’re single, do you automatically disqualify yourself when you meet someone very attractive or successful because you think they’re out of your league?

Answer these questions honestly and they provide powerful insights into how you see yourself – and how much success and prosperity you’re currently able to let yourself have.

Thoughts?

  1. Thanks Randy,
The moment you resolve to cross examine your self talk and behaviors it can be amazing the negative, limiting attitudes that you identify! I find that the old habits fight to return when in company of others that still rely on them.

  3. So - my weight fluctuates- I never get FAT, but get a belly... I have clothes between 2 sizes so it normally is fine...  My vision was to be with a guy with a 6 pack - even tho I didn't have one.  My kids father has one!!! So in terms of being in a relationship - I don't have the "he's too good looking for me!"I'm not a jealous person - so I don't look at cars/boats/houses and think: rich person... I fI like what they have I'll think "Hmm - I like it!"  And I'll compliment the person on it...  Whenever I dream of myself in the future - I am fit, healthy, gorgeous sexy...  But it's not images I conjure up - they just pop into my head at random times....  Tho the opposite also happens - I see me as this HUGE obese person...  I also say when I see her "I wonder what Oscar I'd get for acting as someone like that?!"  I don't ever think I'd get like that - I like health too much...I also (surprisingly!!!!) always see my house as minimalist in all my visions... Yet I have so much clutter!  ALWAYS I see white walls... and nothing around except a few art pieces...  I LOVE the clarity of that, tho haven't found how to live it...When I see myself in the future - it's laughing, loved, deeply close to my kids, fabulous relationship that has such integrity and goodness...And going on lovely holidays...And TV shows, and orphanges... The dark night of the soul has ended...  and I am free... When bad things happen I burn and flinch and chant: "only good things can come from this!" or "what can I learn!" or "what do I/they need to repair?" When good things happen - I jump up and down and celebrate going "I told you - my life is changing... I'm nearly 40, and I will have worked through everything, and have healed the triggers..." AND - I won't start dating until I am financially free, house is as I want it, book written, and free from trauma...  FOr me - it's not the vision that's bleak...  it's unhooking from the damage of so much stuff I'd repressed that has sabotages me because of not healing it... So I'm onto that... 🙂

  5. As James Allen says, "We do not attract that which we want, but that which we are'.  I dropped my car off at the body shop this week and they were to supply a loaner or rental. As most would expect, I figured it would be a typical cheap rental. When they handed me the key to a Mercedes I said to myself, "You attracted what you deserve".. And so it is 🙂 I was reviewing Allen's book just this morning so the thoughts are fresh in my head.

  7. I'm a Real Estate Broker in Miami and after coming back from showing a beautiful condo to a client recently, she told me she would like to go ahead and place an offer. The place was beautiful and was exactly what she had described to me she was looking for. As I started to prepare the paperwork, she tells me "I probably won't get it, but I'd like you to prepare the contract anyway." I stopped right there, looked her in the eyes and asked her why she would say such a thing. I then told her if she had a chance of getting this condo, she needed to believe she would get it and we spoke what she should be focusing on. I thought I got through to her until receiving her text the next morning. It was telling me she wanted to withdraw her offer as she had spoke to her mother who told her the seller would never accept her offer and she was setting herself up for disappointment. I could get frustrated as I have 10 years of experience, started my company when the market was crashing and great online reviews. Her mother is a naysayer who doesn't even have a real estate license and she accepted what she told her without any questions. People need to open their eyes to who they take advice from.

It is very common. I used to have it also. I remember my mother telling me not to get my hopes too high and often times when I was very positive about something she would say "I hope you are not disappointed." Its a mind virus. I've had many disappointments in my career and I'm sure I will continue to have them but they all play a part in moving me forward. I still sometimes catch myself in that mind virus when somebody calls stating they want to but a $500K property and inside I am thinking to myself, "What if they aren't serious. I hope I'm not just wasting my time. " I then have to kick in my new programming which states I am thankful for the opportunity. Maybe they won't buy but another person with the same criteria may be interested and I'll be prepared for them. Opportunities surround us but if we have the wrong mindset, we won't recognize them.

I think we're on to something here!  I am a Law of Attraction trainer/coach, so knowing that Fear of Disappointment is Common is a huge Ah-Ha for me when helping others.  How many of us derail our desires by thinking, "I'd like that....but what if I get Disappointed?  That would be awful horrible ghastly dreadful terrible and AWFUL....so I won't want it after all."
Denni, I love it when I attract new knowledge and understanding!  Thanks for playing with me.

  10. This is VERY true and makes me being aware even more, what comes from the depth of the mind. Thank's!!!

  12. I am currently monitoring almost every mi thought or sentence. What does it mean? Why do I think so? Is it for my good or not?

    1. @Filipa Naydenova
I've found it useful to drop those first two questions, and just ask the third one: Is this thought helpful?  If yes, I run with it.  If no, I dump it.  What would happen if you only asked Question #3?

      1. @MrsHealthandProsperity Thank you for the question 🙂 Going to the truth (why do I think so?) I prevent myself from thinking it again. If you don't know why you do sth, there is a chance to keep doing it 🙂

        1. @Filipa Naydenova
           My experience:
after years of examining Why do I think so? about any thought that made me feel crummy, i realized that my reasons were always ridiculous. That's why I don't ask that question any more.

           For example:
I notice my emotions are dipping down. I realize it is because I am thinking xxxxx.  It's the first time I've Noticed that thought.
          "Why do I think.xxxx?"
"oh, why bother digging that up?  I know it will be garbage.  This time, and any next time, that I find myself feeling low and thinking xxxx, I'm going to think mmmmmmm."
Now I have a strategy.  The old garbage thought may arise again, but I'll recognize it FAST, and replace it.
Pretty soon, because I'm not thinking that thought for more than a nano-second, it simply no longer arises.  The neural connection withers away.

The great teacher Bill Harris puts it this way:  You can't go on doing something that harms you (such as thinking a lowering thought) ONCE YOU KNOW YOU ARE DOING IT.

You don't have to examine it, track it down, figger out why....all you have to do is recognize it as a non-serving bit of garbage-thought, and STOP Thinking it.  Think something else.  Mmmmmmmm....

        2. @MrsHealthandProsperity @Filipa Naydenova
Yes examination with out judgement is key! Thanks for reminding me of that. If it brings up bad feelings, notice that as motivation to change the thought, but don't dwell on that feeling if you start feeling down. Learn and move on!

Delving into the why and what do help in the beginning to understand and also to be able to more quickly be aware of our past that could be influencing us to our detriment. This larger, and more challenging line of questions may also be a great catalyst for removing whole groups of obstacles and leaping ahead toward your more true purpose. I have had some profound 'Ah, Ha' moments that explain a lot about my thinking and I can BE that much more aware. I also agree with Mrs H&P that ultimately once you are on your path that single question is most expedient. Keep at the work and all will come to you and all who are in this fulfilling life journey.

  15. photogoodsolga I do like your Blog,Randy! It keeps me awake/alert. Yes, we are what we think and dream. Before anything happens in our lives,it happens in our minds. 90% of people don't dare to dream, think and act BIG.For many reasons: everybody has a story. We have blueprints. Common instincts: we live in a crowd-society.For "safety" reasons we're told: be like others,it's "certain" (1 of 6 basic human needs). There are "common" paths to follow-stages to live: school,college...work,family,kids etc.If you want to be different-o, here we have for you  fears, limiting beliefs, negative experiences of the past, energy vampires etc. Br-r! Scary! Don't you dare! And we don't. We're trapped, poisoned for most of our lives by all this nothingness. Our minds are full of mental/psychic viruses that destroy our clever, powerful, beautiful programs. Until recently I was one of those hostages. Not anymore: I dream big, happy, free, sure that success is on the way. And if failure occurs-not a problem,I am not afraid,I'll learn from it and go ahead even faster. And help many to dare to dream, think, and act BIG. We are what we dream, think. And world need more happy people like me and you.

  19. This reminds me of the following quote.

"The way you see a person is the way you treat that person." — Unknown Author

Even if that person is YOU.

Therefore, how you see yourself is how you'll treat yourself. If you see yourself as a winner then you'll treat yourself as a WINNER.

Conversely, if you see yourself as a loser then you'll treat yourself as a LOSER.

When you see everyone that you meet as a winner then you can't help to become a winner yourself.

    1. @Roy Montero
Intriguing perspective!  I think it begins with:
See myself as a winner (change my judgements about myself) and then I will
See others as Winners and then I will
      Be a Winner.
nice!  Challenging to change my self-judgements, but what the heck - if other people can do that, I can do it; and it will be SO worth it!

  28. What a great question!  What a great dilemma!  If I think of myself as a looser, incapable, unable - how many chances at getting better will I miss?  Some of them?  All of them?

If I think of myself as a winner, go-getter, can-do-it-all - what happens if I fail or about to fail? How far will I go to succeed? Or do I intend to win forever?

Then the real question becomes - "How do I measure success?"  :   By what I do?  How I do it?  What I get from it?  How much?  Is it the way or the end result?

Am I gonna have a restless night tonight!  hahahaha!

  30. Very thought provoking and I particularly like the comment. Exactly what I've been thinking about lately. How to transform all those subtle thoughts throughout the day that start to eat away at my positivity and dream manifesting. I'm noticing and striving to be vigilant to remove, no replace, those misaligned notions when ever they creep up. It's amazing what can be done by challenging the status quo, to pull out what is no longer serving my highest goal. Thanks for all the great advice, tips and awareness! Will be quoting all of my mentors, influencers and sources for my first book.

  38. Not anymore! I got it, Randy. I see myself healthy, in shape and living in luxury,a nd I am not ashamed to say it. In the spiritual world so many light workers are still trapped in the spirituality/poverty mindset. I say: There is more than enough to go around. I am working hard to help others and deserve to be manifest the money that will create amazing experiencing do things that bring me great joy. In this world...we need money to do this. Bring it on.

A day at the Spa, traveling, new clothes....and more!  Thanks so much for your teachings! You are appreciated!
