How Much Value Are You Providing?

Posted By: Randy GageMay 13, 2010

One of the biggest problems in the world today is entitlement mentality.  People think their boss, parents, government, or someone else is supposed to provide all their needs.  They’re the idiots sitting home watching “The Secret” 27 times wondering why their Lamborghini hasn’t rolled up into the driveway.

All prosperity is a value-for-value equation.  You have no right to anything you are not willing to trade value for and go after.  The more value you provide, the more prosperity you will manifest.  And you know the really great thing?

You can’t out give the universe!

  1. This is so true today Randy and has been for about the last 25 years or so. I remember years ago starting a job in construction and working my way up from the bottom knowing that if I worked hard and showed the boss I was interested in advancing I would be rewarded for my efforts which I was. After a few years I worked my way up to a crew leader position and eventually foreman. As I advanced through those years I noticed the attitude of the new guys change from a working hard to advance attitude to the attitude of pay me more and I'll do more, which was totally opposite of the way new workers thought when I hired on.

  2. Spot on! Randy!

This is a horrible problem that we face today! This is why we have all that crap going on in Greece right now and we will soon find it happening in the US, but enough of that!

We don't have a financial problem, we have a confidence problem. People are not confident enough to pursue their true desires and are often held back by fear.

And this is where people in power can come in like the knight in white armor and save those who are to scared to go out and create value for themselves. And this is when the entitlement mentality kicks in.

    It is sad!

But until they expose themselves to information that starts to get that thinking going in a different direction, they will pass it on to their kids and the cycle just keeps going around and around until someone jumps off and goes their own way!

Keep up the great work, Randy!

  3. Amen, Randy!
How many times do people stare into a cold stove demanding heat without first putting in the wood or lighting the fire? You've got to start the process first otherwise it can't roll, can't pick up momentum.
And this comes full circle to your rather controversial series earlier about responsibility, freedom, governance and self governance.
In Proverbs it says that he who governs himself is greater than he who takes a city (prov 16.32).
    Keep up the challenges.

  4. It is true. You turn the thinking all around that is so great. Most of the people don´t think about today as a picture of their past work.I do.How our life is NOW-is a showout of what we have done so far.I was walking around for many years not creating any other value than feeding my son.But the universe wanted me to create all the value a marriage and homelife can get.It showed me how much lack I had brought with me to that part of the life...I don´t even want to think about it today.

  5. It all begins at an early age. I'm talking as a parent raising kids. The way I see kids being raised today (the majority) is frightening. The touchy feely, whatever you do is ok, let's not keep score type of attitude is sickening. Most kids aren't taught to hold up to any standard, and are ill prepared for the real world once they reach adulthood. I think this is a huge issue leading to an entitlement mentality.
Don't mean to get on a soapbox here, but we need more backbone in the US that previous generations had. We need to have the "roll up your sleeves and go to work" mentality. That's when you exchange value for prosperity. And yes, I'm talking from experience. Bragging here, but my oldest went out on his own and became a licensed General Contractor at the age of 22 and within a couple years was running a million $ + business.

  6. This is exactly what Wattles talks about in The Science of Getting Rich.. Provide more use value than cash value you receive. It shows gratitude which is the key to receiving abundance.

I am about contribution and always have been. And while receiving is wonderful, giving is a tremendous gift!

  7. I came across a book that deals with the management of Gen-yr's. It is such a challenge to develop management strategies to handle these employees who have been raised to believe that the world does in fact revolve around them. Here in New England I surely see my share of children with Yankee sensibilities and manners...but then there are all these other kids who 1) have zero accountability for themselves; and 2) have had others clean up after them in all situations.

Kids that come into a store, and wander around, creating whatever havoc they will...with Mom and Dad standing there explaining that, "We let him experience everything freely. He can do what he wants without any interference from us. We don't think children should feel like they have boundaries." What happens when these kids get out into the real world?

Isn't the definition of parenting INTERFERENCE and BOUNDARIES?? Please, please, interfere--and provide boundaries. Your kids do have to share the planet with other people.

On a separate note: I am one of those unfortunates who has the opposite problem...I tend to be held back by knowledge that the world owes me nothing...at all. Hmmm. Interesting. Thanks for making me think--again.

  8. He's alluding to the fact that prosperity is potentially limitless. I.E. You can make alot of money. There will always be a value exchange somewhere.

  9. Thx all!
    I've got it now.)

    Abt subj:

What value are we talking about?
Is it a value we provide to people in exchange of their money, or a value we can provide to the divine source (like tithing) in exchange of prosperity blessing?
    Which one is it?

  10. [The more value you provide, the more prosperity you will manifest. And you know the really great thing?]
[You can’t out give the universe!]

Randy, although I haven't yet experienced to the degree that you've had experienced the prosperity the way you did, I know that I know it is very true. I agree. You are a good example/walking demonstration of having lived through many years of your life in alignment with your belief and that the prosperity have/had come to follow you, manifesting itself, because of how the spiritual realm/God/Universe works. And I sense your natural god given perception and compassion seems always at work [obedient]/in alignment with your belief, which in turn bring each manifestation either in the physical form, or in the spiritual form, sometimes conveying it to another soul/other souls in the spirit... You being a good spiritual master/human being is truly a good guidance to those who are looking up to you, as a good example. Yes, you are a good proof who has reaped/is reaping what was sowed/has been sowing in wisdom/compassion/acceptance. Thank you, thank you. Love and hugs::: -saachi
PS [They’re the idiots sitting home watching “The Secret” 27 times..] I like the way you put in words. 🙂

  11. Great post! Several years ago a gentleman told me, "that if you solve enough problems for other people, you can have all of the money you will ever want." Just like you say provide something of value!

  12. We spend so many years at school, being told what and when to do that it takes, again, several years to become independent and to feel responsible for our own actions.
Luckiest are the few who were able to remain free in their minds and still take advantage of the learning experience.

  13. If one forgets everything else Jedi Gage said and only remember this, that...

"All prosperity is a value-for-value equation. You have no right to anything you are not willing to trade value for and go after. The more value you provide, the more prosperity you will manifest. And you know the really great thing? You can’t out give the universe!"

...one can be successful beyond one's wildest imagination.

I vote this as the best post of the year.

Randy, nice touching base with you again, though very briefly, in Bangkok!

  14. very true words everyone saying about values.
but could anybody make more clear what is it - value? some think its hard work (any work) to get paid for, some consider it as money to buy smth for, some think its very strong and long prayers to God, there are people considering value as serving others only...
i would love to hear responses to this question....

  15. I really am getting alot out of this blog post. I am currently a 34-year old male in a northeast city in the US, and am in fact a product of very generous parents, with good values, etc. But at the same time I somehow have fallen into the trap of thinking "the world owes me something." The one thing that has gotten me out of this way of thinking has been to become a teacher, and I'm now getting certified to teach full time. At the same time, I still have a lingering feeling that I'm worth more than just this teaching thing, and want to create real prosperity. So many people, especially in urban education, are negative and cynical. On the other side, are people who expect teachers to perform miracles. And at the same time I sometimes wonder if I just gave up on making it in "the real world" because of that "entitlement" attitude. Just some personal thoughts here.
