How Important is Money?

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 23, 2010

So we have a fascinating discussion going on the last post about what living rich really means.   Lots of cool posts on what it means to you guys.  But I did see a troubling tread, which was picked up on by Francisco.  That was the posts that talked about all the "spiritual" side of prosperity, but not the "materialistic" side.

Here’s my take on it…

Prosperity can be found in the joy of a kitten with a ball of yarn, a baby mesmerized by some dangling keys, a rainbow, and the sound of the breeze.

Of course having people you love and love you, health and meaningful work are a part of it, as is service to others.  But let’s not leave out money and material things.

Money and things at their core level are energy vibrations just like everything else. And as such, they can be attracted or repelled.  And we know we manifest the things we think about – the thoughts we give precedence to.

So if you don’t include money and the things you can buy with it, you won’t manifest them.  Likewise you never want to diminish them when you speak of them by saying like, “It’s just money. They’re just things.”

It’s not about worshiping money and things.  It’s about celebrating them!  And what you celebrate is what you attract more of.

So how you doing on that?  Do you celebrate the trappings of prosperity?

-RG

P.S. Watch Monday for a new show on Prosperity TV that is very relevant to this discussion.  It’s HOT!  In the meantime, make sure you’re caught up on the current shows: http://www.youtube.com/randygage

  1. Great message again Randy... possessions and things are meant to be enjoyed and if they do great! But man, I see people get so obsessed, caught up, whatever, into thinking these things are going to give them happiness and it doesn't... still see my Mom flipping out about her precious carpet if something got spilled on it, a scratch on someone's precious car... even you and your precious flying first class... hey Bill Gates flies coach!!! ha ha... for me it's food and wine... I posted on a wine blog recently where I read this book about some miserable heiress who was pulling out 50 year old bottles of white cru out of the cellar, opening them and barely drinking them!! Ohh the humanity!!! ha ha!

  2. I love the material objects as well as the friendships and experiences. Just left Harrods in London where I've been trying on a watch worth £150,000. Now sitting in one of the best Hotels in Europe having a peppermint tea and some beautiful food. Parked outside is a bugatti veroyn (€1,000,000) and it has gathered a crowd who all appreciate the abundance.

    1. Veyron, NICE!!!! Yep, Harrods - loved the experience, especially perusing the multi-million dollar diamond necklaces.

      1. Awesome mate!

I've only ever seen one in pictures and on the tele, but man, that car isn't just a car, it's an experience!

  3. There was a comment in the last post which really struck "stress is a result of poor management of resources/property". Some people have financial stress because they don't manage their money well - i.e. the spend it needlessly, foolishly, or they buy what they can't afford. It is rare for someone to be a minimalist and it would be interesting to see how long they could hack it. The hippies were minimalists for awhile but the movement died out after they realized that kind of lifestyle was for the birds - or their parents stopped supporting them and they had to go to work. There are many things I enjoy that money gives me - peace of mind first and foremost and the things I can buy for my own enjoyment.

    1. Their parents stopped supporting them so they had to go out and work!" LOL 🙂

That is funny. Yea it is easy to say money isn't important when someone else is paying for you. But when you get hungry and cold it becomes very important 🙂

      1. Yes, and unless one wishes to spend their retirement years working in a fast food restaurant, it is more important even then! I think the kind of person who would find my comment funny would be a down to earth type with a resonable work ethic.

  4. Hey Randy, one thing that still blocks my complete acceptance of wealth and abundance (I see this with lots of others too) is the role of material consumption and pollution (big cars, world travel, mansions etc).
I can attract wealth easily but do still feel guilty when I accept it because I feel that I am just saying "stuff the environment" and try to justify it with quantum physics. That it is all just energy. But I see the smog and it pains me still.

I understand it may be off topic for this post but if u could mention it sometime soon I would be very grateful 🙂

    Thanks in advance

  5. I am blessed to finally spend some of the money I had to invest in some fun and travel. We don't know when our last day will be. I am a fan of sports cars like you Randy. We have choices of what car to buy, I just chose a bright colored sports car that I could easily afford. Someone else might have chosen a van or something and spent the same amount of money. I just have a heck of a lot more fun when I'm driving around town!
Spending it needlessly or foolishly is in the eye of the beholder! 🙂

  6. Hi Randy,

Money is freedom in green pants. It allows you to have more, do more, and be more. It should definitely be celebrated, along with all of the beautiful things in my life.

I make note of when I am showered with abundance in all forms. Expressing gratitude makes me a "Good" Magnet. When I am ungrateful things don't seem to work out for me. Celebrating is important!

  7. Hi Randy,

IMHO, money comes along with a set of different values and ethics that so powerful to change one's life first, and then -and only then- the people around him forever. How does it change the people? By making them believe in themselves. I have been there before and I know what I am speaking about. And as you know very well, there is a big difference between the shitty chats that go on forever for nothing, and between a single experience that changes your existance in few seconds forever!!

  8. RG,

See, I know how keenly perceptive, spiritual, and sensible you really are, my unspoken insight and perception are always right. -->

"....Prosperity can be found in the joy of a kitten with a ball of yarn, a baby mesmerized by some dangling keys, a rainbow, and the sound of the breeze...." Yes.

"...It’s not about worshiping money and things. It’s about celebrating them! And what you celebrate is what you attract more of...."

I can't deny what you write here cos it's really true. I agree. It's not about worshiping things. It's about worshiping the REALITY AND THE TRUTH that can bring things, thus we can and will celebrate them. So, believe and it shall be done. Amen. Thanks for the post! A hug::

  9. For those of you who still think dough isn't important, this bud is for you:

Money isn't important until you're diagnosed with cancer.
Money isn't important until a baby of yours is born with special needs.
Money isn't important until your mom is on her deathbed and you can't afford a flight.
Money isn't important until you're laid off.
Money isn't important until you need a tow truck.
Money isn't important until your bank account balance is near zero.
Money isn't important until you need lawyer representation.
Money isn't important until your heating/cooling system breaks down.
Money isn't important until you get lost in the Grand Canyon and wish you owned a satellite phone.
Money isn't important until you arrive home from work to find divorce papers on the table.

    You want more???

Money isn't important until your daughter's going to Harvard.
Money isn't important until your house gets blown up by a tornado.
Money isn't important until the IRS knocks on your door.
Money isn't important until you receive a foreclosure notice.
Money isn't important until a repo man finds you.
Money isn't important until a tooth hurts.
Money isn't important until your aging parents must be placed on a nursing home.
Money isn't important until a ransom is demanded for your release.
Money isn't important until you go bald-headed and wish you could go to Bosley.
    And more....

    Cashly yours,
    Franci$co

  10. Randy,

I love the way you said we "celebrate" money rather than worship it. That says it all in a nutshell. One of the most wonderful trips I took was on the NCL Ship The Gem , where we had a romance suite, (it was both). In the next room were two of my closest friends. So I had both. A butler to bring breakfast and my loved ones around.

    Looking forward to the show.

    Jim

  11. Everybody can feel for some minutes prosperity, when he see a rainbow, young animals, when he feel good ect. But what in the rest of the day? Look at yourself when you go in the supermarket. You buy what you want? You feel really free by your decision? Take a wine for example. It´s a long way folks. To feel what Randy means.

  12. Randy, you know I had a really interesting experience with money today. It started out at the beauty salon. I handed over $20 to pay for a $17 appointment. She gave me $17 change. Instead of pointing out her error, something inside of me decided to gratefully accept the additional $14. So then I went shopping and placed a deposit on some bedroom furniture. The guy gave me a 13% discount. I then went to buy a small amount of manchester for the interior decorating that I'm doing and I got a 10% discount there. After that I went to the electronics store to buy some gadgets for my internet. I needed two and the sales rep gave me the second one at half price. At the hardware store the guy that welcomes and directs customers gave me a tip that saved me about $25. I'm amazed at how things have unfolded. I have to say that I have a very different opinion about accepting 'excess' change now - my day unfolded very prosperously. Randy, what are your thoughts about that?

    1. Well I am happy that you were able to attract all that prosperity. And I would love to see you take that $14 back and return it to the salon!

      -RG

      1. The same thing happened to me on Saturday. I was charged $5 less at the beauty salon. Why should we take it back Randy and not the other gifts or is because the $5 was unintentional?

  13. Sorry Randy, I don't celebrate the "TRAPPINGS" of prosperity guy.

Absolutely, I celebrate PROSPERITY and every part of it including material things and money and the things we can do with it. It IS all a part of the energy and flow and when seen with love and joy is just amazing.

If you said how do you celebrate the trappings of joy? I would be out too.

I am in the flow with you on ALMOST everything Randy but not the trappings.

For me, it is all a part of the vibrations, energy and flow and the words are included.

LIGHT and LOVE to you for ALL the amazing energy you share Randy! Edie

  14. Randy,
You have identified the trouble. People for the most part have collapsed celebrate and worship. We celebrate people’s birthdays, anniversaries and joyous moments. Worship is something entirely different. If you collapse the two and you will until you make them distinct from each other, the confusion only makes your poor or a rich miserable miser.

Thank you for celebrating all the opportunities of wealth and freedom.

    Michael

    1. I wonder how one can be prosperous and enjoy doing something we love sometimes.

I like to write music, but unfortunately, the music industry is practically dead, and I make electronica and am teaching myself scoring. I'm "old" (28).

It is very difficult to make a living doing something everyone and their dog likes to do in their spare time, and that is a fantasy that a lot of people have.

So, that's why the blog is focused on art, technology, and people, since making it in the biz or Hollywood is next to impossible. (had this crazy dream when I was young about scoring movies, but my folks talked me out of it.)

      1. @Tom U r still young n ur life is still ahead. Don't let anyone talk to I abt ur dream, just because it's not here now doesn't mean ever. Cultivate it in your imagination n pray for guidance. It might show up one day n if it doesn't no worries rest on the idea that u were meant to something else n something else will come n will now that this is it

  15. Can I try again to become an answer on my simple example when want to buy a wine and have to decide which one. How can I feel prosperity and rich when I dont have the possibility to buy what I like (the good one is not the cheapest)? How I can celebrate with a compromise, or should I think I buy "my" wine and be sure thats the best what I can can do for me, because its coming bach 100%??

  16. Since we are not living in a barter economy or industrial economy anymore,I have finally realized that money is important.
My idea of prostperity is having enough money in the bank or residual income where I can live on a beach in Nicaragua.
I can do that with $12,000 per month after taxes.

  17. Money is important and I think we should not underestimate it, it's the master key to the doors of living comfortably n helping others. You don't have to have a lot of money to celebrate wealth but saying yes to it, believing that u can have it n deserve it like anyone else n yes using it wisely when it shows up Coz it will. Tnx for this riflection moment on wealth.
