Harnessing the Power of Thought

Posted By: Randy GageJuly 3, 2011

There are many external things you can’t control or alter.  You can’t mold the world to your wishes.  (I know, I tried.)  But those outside things never really can prevent you from achieving a life of abundance...

Because prosperity is always created by the internal things: your desires, passions, and thoughts.  You shape the inner world of your mind and reconcile it to the outside environment. Things you can’t control still happen, but you can control how you respond to them.

You face challenges, but you don’t let anxiety overcome you.  You can be surrounded by distractions and noise, yet you maintain repose and harmony.  Even in the midst of strife and confusion, you can experience peace and poise.

This is the true power of thought.

P.S. I’m back in Sydney.  So wonderful to be back, and this is actually my first time staying in my new apartment.  The pic is the Opera house of course, and the harbor bridge at dawn.

  1. How to change the world. by Don Fishell. First we start by sharing peace and kindness with all we meet. Then we learn to help others learn to help others. Next we find many people willing to help us help others. Then we will change the world. Who will help me? Thank you have a great day

  2. So very, very true.

In fact, this was my very first post on Twitter this morning ...

    Regroup. Refocus. Refine. Refire! 😉

We are never defeated (unless we decide we are) - only detoured. 😉

Enjoy Sydney and stay still long enough to adjust to the time zone!

  3. So grateful I decided to read this as I am settling in for the night!

I am experiencing the true power of thought! I have some challenges right now, and because I allow myself to remain in a place of peace and do not allow the worry to paralyze me, I am able to work through the challenges and someway, somehow, the solutions come! It's happened that way a few times today! So I choose to remain in this place of peace, with the complete knowing that the challenges are being taken care of and all is well 🙂

  4. Hi RG,

    Enjoy your new apartment!

How we choose to think about things determines the power things have over us. So if you feel nothing outside of you has power over you, this becomes true to you.....and you have understood the power of thought.

I also tried to mold the Universe in the past, before I finally learned to surrender and let the General Manager do its job. Anxiety arises when we try to control anything outside of ourselves. When we simply picture a desired end and release attachment to it, we easily see all things happening on the outside are vehicles for our advancement. We choose to think different thoughts about appearances than most others, who trust fully in appearances, fully forfeiting their power of thought.

The challenge is to think this way in the face of situations which can be perceived as negative, but the more you practice developing your perceiving power, the easier it becomes to see lesson after lesson landing at your feet.

Thanks for sharing your insight RG.

  5. Randy, nice to have you down under with us. Enjoy your new apartment - I'm sure the views are fantastic.

  6. You make me laugh. Yesterday and today, when we handle team issues which have been done or not done ... Who's fault? Makes no sense to blame-game, where nothing can be changed. Given the current situation as a zero point, what is the best what can I do now?

  7. This is very powerful and yet another great reminder.

And we get reminders all the time sort of like a test. I got home from errands on Saturday and when I went down to my car I noticed a big puddle of coolant. So I decided the best way to respond was to be grateful my car did not overheat that could have caused much damage and that the coolant didn't leak out until I got home. So yes, it left me stranded from doing some activities, but I'm grateful in so many ways.

Life is great and there's no limit to what's possible! Happy Fourth everyone!

  8. I had a very challenging situation today. I had to deal with it as best I saw fit. I felt overwhelmed by sadness at one point and just wanted to cry but I had to keep going. I walked into this unknown territory which appeared so far removed from what I would have wished all this would look like. I was met with total surprise and delight as this new situation turned out to be amazingly synchronistic. It was like all my recent prayers were answered in one place.
My sadness had been replaced with joy, so I headed to a "milonga" where couples were dancing tango by the Geneva lakeside to the best tango music ever. The dancers faces shone as the latin music and passion transported them to places in their imagination that were exquisite beyond belief. The harmony, the beauty, the grace of the dancers, the smell of flowers and the back drop of the lake was such an intoxicating and exotic formula I felt like the luckiest woman alive and at that moment I remembered how you tell us Randy that abundance is a feeling.
If feeling abundant could be monetised I felt like I had the biggest swiss bank account that exists. It's funny because at one stage such feelings of abundance, and feeling so alive were few and far between and today I am happy to say they are becoming more and more frequent almost everyday occurances.
On that note thank you Randy for all your inspiration and all the time you devote to this blog. It really does transform lives.
    Have a ball downunder!

  9. "But those outside things never really can prevent you from achieving a life of abundance…" very important note. Thanks for putting that out there Randy. If we keep the focus, we just kind of swim around the obstacle that come in our way, we will just find a way around them.

Welcome to Down Under and I hope you will come up to Brisvegas soon. Enjoy!

  10. Once again, a great thought.

I no longer feel upset when someone tells me that there is no way I can succeed.

    They clearly are wrong.

To the success of myself and others.

    Keep up the awesome.

  11. Great words, Randy. Right now I am going through a phase of change that will only be manageable if I program my mind correctly. As you mentioned, there's a lot of uncontrollable external factors, therefore, we need to focus on those things we can control: Our thoughts and feelings.
I saw the opera house picture and it reminded me of my biggest dream: Going back to Oz Land!!!!
