God, Prayers, and Prosperity

Posted By: Randy GageSeptember 24, 2019

Last post we continued the discussion on god, prayer, and prosperity.  I said that you don’t manifest prosperity because you make a prayer, and an omnipotent force responds favorably to your plea.  While believers are no doubt convinced that they worship the one true god and their god answers their prayers, the evidence would certainly not support that.

However, I promised to answer the question Sloopy posed: Was his wife saved because he and their friends were praying to the one, real god, and that god chose to answer their prayers, and ignore the prayers of the other 150,000 people who died that day?  But before I share my thoughts, some disclosure here:  I was a lay minister at my local Unity church for 20 years. I’ve delivered dozens of prosperity services at churches all over the world.  I taught the principles of prosperity and how I felt that god and spirituality fit into the equation.

But after taking a two-year sabbatical and spending hundreds of hours in quiet reflection and introspection, I came to the conclusion that no rational person could believe in god.  Since that time, I have evolved some, and would amend that summary to say that I believe a rational person could believe in a god – but no rational person could believe in the religions claiming to represent gods.  (And all of the ridiculous dogma, doctrines, and Stone Age sky god superstitions they propagate.)  I just came to the judgment that as a rational, thinking person, I could no longer hold those beliefs.

Some of you may think that I’m writing this for clickbait, or to insult you or your beliefs.  Not in the least.  I’m not a militant atheist, and I don’t view it my mission in life to convince other people that god doesn’t exist.  Technically I’m probably a fundamentalist agnostic.  If someone has faith in a supernatural power and that belief brings them joy and peace, good for them.  I too wish I could believe that when my grandma died, heaven got another angel.  But I just can’t.

So to be totally clear, I don’t believe in god or any other omnipotent, omniscient, all-knowing entity...

But I do believe in the power of prayer.  And I do believe that it is possible the prayers of Sloopy, his wife, and their friends and family could have helped cause her recovery.

I'll explain my reasoning on the next post.  Until then, would love to see your thoughts below.

  1. Randy.... In my belief of prayer ... I ask and then I move in the direction of the prayer. That is ... I want more prosperity.. I ask for qualified buyers who want to buy... then I CALL numbers in my database or knock on doors or hold an open house ... and the more I do...the closer I am to an answered prayer. My higher power, in my belief, is really WITHIN me and this belief gives me the strength and fortitude to move towards the prayer. Never ask and sit back. Always ask and move forward. The Universe is listening and providing "coincidences" to make it work. I hope that makes sense.

  2. I understand totally what you mean.. I believe in thoughts are things and if you get a whole bunch of people thinking good thoughts for a person it will help.. but as my history prof said, it's ridiculous to be praying to a God in a church during an earthquake as the roof falls in on you or as the Nazis said to Jews in the camps, where's your God now?

  3. Randy, do you believe in "infinite intelligence" still? cosmic consciousness? where do these thought possibilities now factor in. It's from your prvious work I reference these concepts..

    Thanks!

  4. I am Universal. or in another word... Catholic. Although I took time off (and put my name in the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead (Going forth or Resurrection)and now I am attending Eucharistic Adoration. Adoration can Create good hearts with prayers, although we are all born with good, worthy, kind, loving hearts... and eternal life... and the ability to change our beliefs (or have others change them for us.
So sin is learned and can be unlearned.

Do you believe in love? good? kindness? eternal life?
    Do you believe in you?

  5. "(And all of the ridiculous dogma, doctrines, and Stone Age sky god superstitions they propagate.)"

Notice that you based your assumption on pre-existing assumptions. You claim that God doesn't exist, because others claim stupid things about him or her. This is empty.

"While believers are no doubt convinced that they worship the one true god and their god answers their prayers, the evidence would certainly not support that."

Because you believe that one entirely manifest his or her own reality, without external force, and you think it can't be both. This is the opposite mindset what you taught to me, just sayin'. One of your videos, you also said that you don't have 100% control over your life, because stuff just happens sometimes, regardless of your mindset. So what is this?

Also the math still doesn't match in not believing in an infinitely powerful being in an infinite universe, surrounded by God (again?) knows how many dimensions. All I can see here is narrow mindedness, by thinking that humans are the center of the universe, and nobody can be that far from us by evolution, than as far we from an ant, while the ant is the concrete proof that this can happen.

  6. Since I put my website on the field, my comments aren't appearing. I guess it is time to scream about white supremacy, and exploitation and stuff! And I also claim that Akismet is a terrorist organization, which is sending informations to the sitting on the toilet.

      1. Yes, I was so exploited and oppressed that I could not handle it anymore.

        No, of course not. 😉

But my today's comments are do disappeared. Or are they just waiting for moderation?

  7. wonderfully suspenseful post and nuanced on a delicate topic. definitely helping integrate the philosophy and giving time to digest the info.

  8. If you do not believe in God any longer who do you donate your 10% tithes too? I am in the process of listening to your Prosperity cd's.
