Getting the Support You Need

Posted By: Randy GageOctober 21, 2009

What a wonderful response on the last two posts about making your public declaration about what you want to achieve.   I’m a big believer in this because it’s worked so well for me.

But there’s another part…

The support network.  Finding “workout partners,” fellow mastermind members or just people that will help you be accountable.  And that is the real magic of all this.

So two thoughts on this:

First thanks to those of you that chose to be a part of the community here and provide that support to the others on the journey with us.  I loved reading all the posts and the supportive comments.

Second, what are you doing to extend that into your day-to-day life?  Jim Rohn tells us your income with be the average of your five closest friends.  I believe this also holds truth on your health, happiness, relationships, and just about everything else in life.

So who are the people you spend the most time with, and are they bringing you up or down?  Give that some thought and check in below, and I’ll have some more thoughts on the next post.

  1. How ironic. I was just thinking about this andputting together my plan to have a decent support system around me (my Dream Team). Yes, the fear is moving away from current friends that I've had for years... but I WILL DO IT!

  2. Dear Randy:
I am in a place in my life where I am alone. No close friends, just me in my world, working on my goals, and ideas, and listening to personal development CD's, and reading books.
I wondered about that, and I was thinking maybe I was brought to this place in my life, so I could develop...
So, I don't know how the Jim Rohn formula would apply to me..funnily enough I am listening to his 'Art of Exceptional Living' CD.
Do the books of other people you read, and audio programs you listen to, constitute part of the people closest to you?
If so, then I am in good shape, but it hasn't manifested...
    If not then...oh no! 🙂

  3. Hi all!
My "sambo" who I cheer home with are extremely pedantic in all matters spec housekeeping. She is a good hand with money and very down to earth. The inpact on me is good I think.
My mother who live next door is disabled after 2 hipinjururys and struggle for all the service she can get. Feels like a heavy duty to fullfill.
Moreover I see some patients (I am an chiropractor and acupuncturist) and most of them enlighting me up as they are objects for my skills. Well thats all from now.

  4. Hey Mr Gage

You rocking dude lighting up the planet with your inspiration...

I'd like to talk to you every single day until I earn more money than you, have a better figure than you, and am happier than you.

    How about it? 🙂

  5. Randy,

Like Ade I am alone in my life. I may be married but as far as friends are concern I was never very good at making them. I have struggled in that department. I have people I associate with in Toastmasters while I am at the meeting. I have done a lot of research especially in putting together a Mastermind Group. So I have high hopes about my future in creating the proper group of people to help succeed in life's dreams, mine and their's.

  6. If your a student of mlm there are plenty of helpful leaders , that's what its all about if you give you will receive.Everyone has value and can offer it to others .

  7. Well Randy I spend hours and hours with you in my head so I am holding you directly responsible for what happens with me. (LOL as you see I still have some issues ha ha!)

Seriously though I'm very excited that it is so much easier with social media to surround yourself with fantastic mentors.

There is no reason at all to not have your own mastermind made up of all the fabedoo mentors you choose. Money isn't an issue any more because you can follow people for free (!!) and even if you pay for stuff information is getting so cheap with all the great 'free + shipping' offers.

I listened to Joe Shroeder yesterday and just thought how fortunate we are to so easily have access to great mentors like him.

Today I emailed with him. Now that just wouldn't happen 10 years ago would it? No excuse not to be incredibly inspired!!!

  8. Like Ade and others I have always been a bit of a loner, although I have many acquaintances, (really close friends I can count on one hand). But a Dream Team, now that sounds wonderful and Randy is right, unless someone makes us accountable we may procrastinate or stray off path and end up doing the same old same old and wondering why we aren't getting the results we really want.

When you are the only one in your crowd who is committed to manifesting your dreams and goals, it can be lonely (I'm sure many of you have also experienced the backlash from so-called friends when you have achieved a goal and their green-eyed monsters come out to play).

I am grateful to Randy for providing this space for us to support each other and to be able to communicate like this. Thanks too Randy for being the Captain at the wheel steering this ship of destiny with an amazingly diverse crew on board!

  9. Hey, I would love to be counted as part of your support team! And since you seem to be on the right track, please be on mine!
    Take care,
    Lucinda

  10. I have come to realize my circle of influence including friends, sucks!
My only relatives who had money are not nice people and they just recently lost most of it in all the bank fiascos that went down last year. As far as friends go, I only have two good friends but they both struggle.
So, how does one go about making new 'real' friends with a better influence?

    Anybody got any ideas???

  11. Here's what I've learned. As I work on myself, and expect great things, I start to attract like minded people into my life.

    Like attracts like, right?

I've discovered as my beliefs change, my attitude towards life, my GRATITUDE for my current circumstances, that the people who do not align with those prosperous thoughts tend to move to my outer circle of influence.

And slowly but surely, I've started attracting people who DO align with my thinking and attitude and they come closer into my circle of influence.

Before, where I only had people who worked low paying, hourly dead end jobs, who smoked pot or drank before, during, and after work and were as closed minded as the next sheep, after I started to work on ME and my thinking, they started to 'go away'.

When I stopped complaining, our conversations became really short.

When I started taking responsibility for my life, they didn't come around anymore, because they thought I'd expect them to do the same, and they only wanted to remain the victim.

Now, I am surrounded by intelligent, clear headed, fit, successful, SUPPORTIVE friends.

Does it mean I have to stop loving those friends and family in the outer circle? No. It's just how the universe moves us through life. I still have one AMAZING friend who has seen me go and grow for years.

But, I had to be my biggest supporter first.

As stated before, your surroundings are a manifestation of your thoughts. This includes EVERYthing, even friends or the possible lack thereof.

    In Gratitude,

    Jhanna Dawson

  12. Randy,

I released the people who got me down a long time ago. A negative person receives no more than 1-2 minutes of my time, and that's only if it's an unexpected situation where I am exchanging pleasantries.

My girlfriend and father are my two biggest influences. Both extremely positive people who have a similar entrepreneurial mindset. As I tap deeper into the univere's wisdom with increased silence and form a master mind with these 2 people people success comes more easily each day.

  13. I have family members that make a lot of money and some that don't. I don't hang with people because of how much money they make. I am pretty sure in the team that Randy plays softball not all of them are millionaries.
    Randy:Are they?

  14. Well a couple of points. As I said above, I think this holds true for health, relationships, happiness and just about everything. So please don't miss the important message here.

And no, most of the softball guys I play with aren't millionaires. But they play gold glove defense and hit smokin' line drives! 🙂

  15. Randy, on a daily basis I am surrounded by unhappy people. I had allowed myself to be a victim along with the other sheep for a very long time. I love to say that I am on a new and much brighter path now. I am learning to keep there thoughts out of my head and becoming my own. I walk away when they start to complain, or I change the subject. I am, with the energy within me, surrounding myself with the positive, forward thinking I need in order to leave that place behind and move up in life. I know what I want. I may not know exactly how to get it, but it will come to me, because I believe.

The people I allow myself to be surrounded by are but a few. The love of my life, who has been the most inspirational to me, and has always believed in me. He may not be far away, but he is close in my heart. My good friend Angel, who I work with. He is always creating something great, coming up with inspirational ideas. Angel and I are a team working on a clothing line right now, and as he would say "It's going to be AWESOME!!!". Everything these days is awesome. Then there are people such as yourself, Eric Worre, and J.B. who I watch, listen to, and read up on. That is my Top 5. That is the presence that I allow myself to be surrounded by.

Thank YOU Randy! Thank you for doing what you do, and sharing yourself with the world. It is truly a blessing to have you in this world.

    Jamie

  16. I have launched my blog 5 months ago, which is a part of following my dream. I'm sick and tired of being surrounded by ordinary people who does nothing but complain about life. I have no support from my friends because they don't understand my purpose.

I want to make a difference, I want to use my abilities, for I believe that I have what it takes to succeed in life. 🙂

  17. I am writing a lot more things down and it has helped me be more aware of where I put my attention and time.

With people around me, I am saying less now so that I can hear more of what they say and what I think in response before I open my mouth and voice it.

Looking now for a workout buddy...

  18. i am working closely with my team of business people. I daily listen to your vidoes and that of Jim Rohn, Tony Robbins, John maxwell, Jay Conrad Levinson, Robert Kiyosaki and others.
It is my dream to bring myself and my team to one of your live talks and that of Mastermind events.

    God bless.

  19. Now I have only four closest friends, who, choosing from all of people, play the most important role in my life. They are support my deepest ideas and help with their realisation. And we all together help each other in our self-developing. My friends bring in my life a lot of happiness, wonderful relationships and they care about my health, so am I about their.

And what about prosperity, success. Five days ago I gathered my friends and asked them - what income they dreaming about and desire to have in nearest time. They told some numbers, which in average much more bigger than geting most of the people in Ukraine, and I was pleasured to see it. They know, they want more. So, they opened their minds to the new level of living, each one in own degree (we only begin doing this). But now we have almost nothing from that level of income, which we charted. Because it's
physically needs time to be created (it's not network marketing, and only after making good, we able to propose it). We
predict success across 2-3 years. And we believe it will happen.

  20. When I was a kid, I was not going to play around. In fact, I am a kid that garned a lot of awards and besides, collecting awards was my thought. i got a first place in a competition in painting and arts. in short, people was amazed by my talent..and I was alone..even my parents did not recognized and did not feel how happy I was in recieving awards. The only person around me was my mentor.
Now, I am growing up, I intended to enter in an art circle. Somebody hated me and someone really appreciate me. The one that appreciate me are the people who are in position like a multi-awarded artist, national artist, leaders, and a lot of those who envy/hated me are the ordinary people although there are others who is a high talented person that outbust me..
and that is in art. and my life.
what about my relationship? I hv friends that I love but they are strugglling..How do I find my closest friends? I don't know..But I am sure, as I grow, as my consciousness grow, people in my life change into better.. It is a a leap of faith.
