Getting Motivated

Posted By: Randy GageNovember 18, 2010

A lot of people call me a motivational speaker.  I don’t correct them, because most don’t really understand the nuance and meaning of words like I do as a writer.  But no one, a speaker or anyone else, can motivate you.

Someone could inspire you.  Hopefully this blog community inspires you.  Hopefully you read positive books, listen to positive audios, and have other sources of inspiration.  But you have to choose motivation.

And what a great day today is for getting motivated!  So what are you going to do with it?

  1. Hi Randy,

    Great point.

Motivation is an inside job. Something outside of your might inspire you to move into action but guess who decides whether to become motivated or not?

It's always up to the individual to become motivated.

This is why personal development requires personal development, by the individual. Until someone decides to change it doesn't matter who attempts to inspire them.....they ain't changing.

Thanks for sharing and have a powerful day!

    Ryan

  2. Self Motivation was the highest hurdle I had to take, when I became an entrepreneur.

No, boss kicking my ass any longer.

That was really hard in the beginning.

But it is getting better daily.

    Take care

    Volker

  3. a motivation is a lot of ... payment of loans, apartment, car, house, helping others, traveling .... since when I met "Randy philosophy" and its experiences, recommendetions =inspirations ... every day I try to apply it.

But this BLOG is one of my biggest INSPIRATION,am not alone !!!

    Thanks Randy.

  4. That's why I prefer to call myself CIO (Chief Inspiration Officer rather than CEO) of my company.
    Randy you always inspire me!
An inspirer like you is rather like a match that ignites the spark in others that hopefully develops into a flame and then a roaring fire.

    1. I love it, Chief Inspirational Officer.
Thank you all for inspiring. We motivate ourselves, but need a hand at keeping the energy levels beating at a powerful rate.

      Thanks, Randy, Elly and all.

  5. Randy: you are the one who inspire me every day.You empower myself to the next level of my life.I admire the way you think, especially when you say Live rich! and enjoy a sunset on the beach, smell a flower, hugh somebody every day.............I love it.Thank you.God bless you

  6. Randy, I started reading your blog when I noticed the Wichita connection (my hometown)...then I kept reading it for the reactions...Your point of view on things always has me thinking. It's so easy to glide along thinking we know our point of view on things, until someone stirs the pot. You are that!
I think the reason so many buy *motivational* material, hoping it will motivate it....but then too many times it lays on the shelf BECAUSE it takes motivation to open it, use it, learn from it. I have a list (ok so it's everything!) of yours that I want to get. I work from a list of several that I not only get one by one, but I listen to and implement to make it my own. I am learning, and growing, but the more i learn the more I discover I NEED to change and do more. But, I'm also finding out (as an Older adult) that nothing is wrong with me, but I have goals that my needs change. I need to do more of. Not because someone told me I lack, but because I see the need. Thanks Randy, so much,
    Judy

  7. You are so right Randy,

I agree, no one can really motivates you. Motivation lies deep within each individual. Some people are naturally motivated, so to speak, and some are naturally not. Nothing can actually motivate them at all. No matter what!

  8. I never did like it when people call me a motivator. I don't motivate I inspire you to motivate yourself. Elly I love that CIO.

Self-motivation is the key to your success. I was asked the other day. "How do I make myself do the things I know I need to do" When the desire is large enough the motivation will be there. The problem with most people, their DREAM is too small.

I went Diamond because I needed to win. I was tired of quitting or doing just enough to get by. I needed to win more than I needed air. It drove me. It was not about the money or the recognition although I knew it would be there when I went Diamond. But what I truly needed was to win I was SO proud of myself. Now I am driven for my next goal and it moves me. You all inspire me to be the best. Black Diamond here I come.

    1. Well said. There's an ancient saying that goes, "when you want success as much as the air you breathe, you will be successful."

      1. In combat situations everything revolves around the will to survive, I guess this will, or intention, could be applied to anything, such as financial success

  9. This was a natural phenomenon when i started following my bliss uncompromisingly. I do only what brings me joy, and I find joy in whatever I choose to do. Not tough to stay motivated. Plus you inspire everyday. 🙂

  10. Randy, you are one of those people who inspires me. Knowing your story, how you started on the road to prosperity is powerful living. I call it intentional living.
But this is where the not so secret lies, "...Behold for the kingdom of God/Spirit/Universe is within." This is the energy that fuels us into action.

About 2:00 AM this morning, I was listening to one of your CD's,. I knew then I was listening to the right stuff. After years of dedication with my spiritual studies, this morning something struck a chord; you said that "it is a sin to be poor." I remember these teachings from the late Rev. Ike, too.

I will tell you what I am being, no more doing. Randy, I have been a customer/distributor long enough. So, I committed to a system (you mentioned having a system in one of your books to be successful) that can make all by dreams come true. Today, I am working with my mentor. I got MONEY is SOOoo SPIRITUAL!!!

Randy, thank YOU for being successful and sharing it!

  11. Wayne Dyer talks about how motivation is ego based, when we take an idea and run with it. Inspiration, on the other hand, is Spirit/God based, and it is when an idea grabs us and takes off running pulling us along. It's when we can't stop ourself from doing whatever it is. So, are you motivated or inspired?

  12. That's a good distinction between motivation and inspiration Joe. I have experienced both and right now I am seeking inspiration which of course, comes from within. Many people tell me that I'm inspiring to be around especially when speaking about living my dream and purpose. And it's this that I focus on for my inspiration.. What's possible..

Some days I'm more motivated than others, but it's part of being human. When I vision living my dream it's very motivating and it's this that I must stay focused upon.

    Thanks Randy!

  13. Dear Randy,

You are really inspiring motivator.... I was wondering, what is the real things motivate you after failure in network marketing for the first 5 years..

What things motivate you from Restaurant Owner to Millionaire Messiah...

How this external interact with your internal believe system?

  14. Reading Dumb, Sick, and Broke and visiting this website does help get me motivated. It changes the way I think, helps me recognize bad thought patterns, and leads me to take action - the end result of motivation. Without the knowledge that is presented in the above mentioned mediums, I may not have changed for the better. I have become motivated to figure out how to sell more of my wares.

  15. It has been said that a person's motivation level is directly proportionate to their desire to close the gap between what they have and what they want.

Your type of inspiration is what helps people create greater visions for themselves than they could have dared dream alone ... and what an awesome gift that is to the world. 🙂

    K

  16. There has to be a motive for motivation to occur. In other words, inner drive. It has to be a must at least for me or I eventually should all over myself. I think it is critical that we write down our motives. If they are negative, they will give us more of that and many people have negative motives for wanting to succeed. If they are positive and we have a clear vision then we can keep ourselves moving towards what it is we want. I've heard speakers say that it is great to have a negative motivation to propel you to take action. I disagree. Action if negative turns into reaction and brings the negative back to us. I like to write a list of my musts in one column and the consequences in another column. That propels me to move towards the positive and away from the negative. Inspiration expires without a clear motive that is tied to a burning desire. I have to remind myself of the negative outcomes from not taking action in order to get to my musts when the inspiration is low.

  17. People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their talents are.

  18. "And what a great day today is for getting motivated! So what are you going to do with it?"

What a great line to tell and ask yourself each morning. Excuse me while I write this down and tape it everywhere!

    Gary

  19. That is such a great point! I often say that as a Sales Manager, I like to motivate people... but you're right... people are only motivated if they choose to be... that has to happen from within them! "Inspire" is such a powerful word. This is the right shift in thinking that I need right now... thank you!

  20. People sometimes think or say "When I get motivated, I'll do such and such".

I believe it works the other way round. Take the first step (and then the second etc) and motivation will start to flow.

I am quite into exercise at the gym. Some days I am not quite so full of motivation. But the first step is to pack my bag, then get in the car, check in at the Health Club, get my kit etc. By then it's done! The rest just flows. Also I believe the days when I don't feel motivated are the days I must do it!

    Good subject Randy!
