The Mystery of Getting Motivated

Posted By: Randy GageNovember 29, 2020

A couple weeks ago I raised the subject of inspiration with the readers of my “Gage on Prosperity” newsletter.  More specifically, the role inspiration plays in motivation.  Inspiration is a very important word for the world just now.  People need motivation which comes from within.  But a lot of them don’t have enough in the tank to motivate themselves, so they’re looking for sources of inspiration.

One of the most important things you can do to become successful is learning the sources of inspiration that personally inspire you.

For example, seeing someone vibrating in their unique mad genius inspires me. I can remember watching the Headbangers Ball at 1 am seeing Guns ‘N Roses for the first time with chills running down my spine – knowing I had just witnessed once in a generation genius.  A couple decades later yet when I’m in a tight softball game and my team needs a big hit from me, “Welcome to the Jungle” is the walkup song I’m playing in my head.  Just like I’ll reread Pressfield’s The War of Art every time I’m beginning a new book.

When you’re facing what seems to be an insurmountable obstacle, you may find it helpful to remember the people who believed in you before you even believed in yourself.  Or the podcast that gets you jacked up. (Hopefully mine.)  You might need to recite the poem that lights you up, remember the friend who always has an encouraging word, or select the song on your playlist that gets you through that last rep in the gym.  Most importantly, know which people in your social feeds pull you up, and which ones pull you down.

Motivation is self-generated.  But you can definitely be inspired to motivation.  Make sure you know the sources that compel you to the highest possible version of yourself.

Peace,

RG

  1. Think it was Zig Ziglar who was challenged by someone after one of his speeches, being told "Great speech, but you know that motivation doesn't last." "True," replied Ziglar, "neither does bathing, which is why I recommend both daily." Your podcast, updates on Facebook and Instagram, combined with this blog, are indeed a large part of my daily "inspiration", even if sometimes they are challenging.

  2. You definitely inspired me to believe that realizing my prosperity was even possible. I was stoked, full of inspiration, yet was like "ignorance with passion". .. and YES Randy, you're definitely are an anchor and source point for firing us up and stepping into "our mad genius" in a new version of ourselves You're the original mad genius torch bearer, igniting geniuses everywhere!

I'm open to mad genius. it's the positive "human condition"! #muchgratitudeBrother!

  3. Got EXACTLY.. what you're getting at Randy.. and for all my fellow geniuses keep in mind what fires you up in one happenstance won't do it in another.. on my site I talked about attending a Chris Isaak concert and asked, does rock n' roll go with wine?? I wrote, not really, when I open a nice bottle of wine I'm not tempted to blast the Stones, usually opting for some classical.. Tim Ferriss recommends finding some background music or beats which has been proven to improve people's productivity.. so I put one ear phone in my ear, turn it down low and play the Stones' extended mix of Saint of Me, just this great thumping bass and Keith's driving rhythm guitar and Mick's clever lyrics of events in past history and you'll never make a saint of me, which I identify with.. and crank out my calls and production!! You'll be surprised how fast the day goes by when you got a song like that on repeat.. cheers David
