Getting a Streak Going

Posted By: Randy GageApril 27, 2009

I remember going to my SOMA therapist and her commenting on what an amazing improvement my body had made in the four years since I have seen her last.   The next day my chiropractor told me that my spine and overall health was dramatically improved.  And the day after that, the dental hygienist told me that my teeth and gums were much improved since my last cleaning.

Is it any wonder I went into the weekend determined to eat well, exercise like crazy, and be the hero on my softball team?

More recently I had a long spell where I had some health challenges that went misdiagnosed.  My energy wasn’t as high and my endurance suffered.  I was a lot less motivated to work out, and my play suffered.

Is it any wonder that I was more likely to eat pizza, ice cream and junk food more often?

When you get positive reinforcement for things, and have small victories, it makes it much easier to do more to get even better.   And when you’re not having any small victories, it can be that much harder to have the first one.

There is a lesson there for you.  Might be about health, or something completely different.  So where in your life should you be getting some small victories, which will power you on to the big ones?

  1. Small victories are critically important to health and happiness. Without them you are just an orange traffic cone on the highway.

  2. In the Bible we that David "reminded himself" of the love of the Lord. We must also reminf ourselves of the good around us... award yourself for the positive changes (just not with another bad habit)

Reward yourself for cutting off the stupid TV by buying yourself another great book...
Reward your yoga or weight-training with some new work-out clothes...

  3. Man, you are so right about the small victories begetting the larger ones. By human nature we crave positve feedback, without it we tend to regress.

So, let's make it each of our own goals to find our small victories and celebrate them so we may be spurred on to the grander things in life that we all so richly deserve.

  4. Right on, Randy! Celebrating small victories is SO important. However, when I'm on a "losing" streak, I find that it's easy to overlook or forget whatever victories I do have, and dwell on the setbacks, thus prolonging the problem.

To combat this, I kept a "victory log" (actually a pad of paper) beside my desk, and I made a point of noting any and all victories, no matter how small. This way I was reminded each day that I was making progress, and eventually my victories became so numerous and obvious that I didn't need my "victory log" any more.

  5. Great Point. Everyone remembers the home runs, however a hit is a hit is a hit. Celebrate and remember the hits you make (a little Softball lingo there for Randy...)

  6. I think one of the biggest victories for people is to realize who they really are. Start with immortal, and then go from there...

Already 10+ years ago they publicly stated that human DNA is immortal and that they don't really understand why people age, get sick and die. The answer is it has been embedded in our mind patterns. It's time to remove "death and taxes" etc. from our minds!

There are no limits for what we can do and still (or more likely because of that), engineered events like the economy, swine flu etc. happens to try to hold people back and push them down.

It's ultimately "getting a streak going" to understand what is behind news events for example and simply choose not to participate!

  7. Yep, yep, yep! I think Intention has MUCH to do with it, too! I'm excited about a new business I recently got involved with and once I intended the results and achievements I desired, I got two people out of the blue that will expand the biz. And then I got two more calls from potential mortgage clients.

You're on the mark Randy where small victories are concerned.. They WILL lead to bigger ones and improved overall well being.

  8. I look forward to facing each day and claiming any small victory I can muster. I think a victory in any part of your life (health, business, wealth, family, personal...) carries or spills over into the other parts of your life and that is what keeps us going from day to day. I think it is reality, but maybe it is just me with an optimistic viewpoint -- who knows, and does it matter. 🙂

  9. You are so right as ever Randy..A while back I was dealing with issues, I stopped exercising and started eating more and more junk....and doing and thinking less. Thankfully I woke up and am looking after myself and my creative output is flowing.
Randy you always were a walking miracle.:))

    with love Angie

  10. Victorious life manifest from peace in the heart, the more we allow peace to permeate our being in our daily life, the more victories we experience.
