Freakin Amazing!

Posted By: Randy GageFebruary 3, 2012

I’m writing this on my way to Dallas.  The flight’s on American, so that means an old plane, no Wi-Fi, and the same bland omelet I’ve eaten a hundred times before.  But instead of ranting, I’m celebrating…

Because there is still so much wonder in the moment…

Do you realize how freakin’ amazing it is that a plane this size can fly in the air?  Or that you can travel 500 miles an hour eating ordinary food?  There’s a power outlet for your laptop.  And do you realize how freakin’ amazing a laptop is?

And what about your cell phone?  Forget cell phones. Have you ever seen a fax machine?  You’ve got to be kidding!  You take a piece of paper, write something on it, push it through some rollers in New York and the exact replicate comes up two seconds later in Hong Kong?

Have you ever studied a praying mantis?  Noticed the bark pattern of a tree?  Just sucked on a blade of grass?

Think of all the astonishing, amazing, and spectacular things all around you at this very instant.

When’s the last time you appreciated it with wide-eyed wonder it really deserves?

P. S.  I’m here at the NSA Conference.  If you’re here and you see me, give me a shout.

  1. I like your insights Randy. Here in the Czech Republic is around freezing -20 degrees and I think how happy I am for home heating, for hot tea. For bed and duvet cover ... For light that I can light ... Simply for everything I am surrounded by all ... Thank you for this perception, that are things priceless ... I think the feeling of gratitude and love in the present.

  3. Amazing is to have a life growing INSIDE of you and to look at that person 30 years later and say, "that is a part of ME!" To take part in the creation process is the greatest wonder of all!

  5. I think that´s one reason why I became an engineer. There are so many amazing details all around us and it´s such fun to create even more of them...

But the most amazing thing is the human body. And unforzunately it´s the one thing most people recognize the least. I´m just reading a book on the origin of feelings in the brain and I´m really surprised because there are so many things you learn about your self. How to condition your brain and body to be the best you can be.

    Live rich!

  13. Many people get tunnel vision in this world and they often say, "is this all there is?" There is so much wonder and amazement to view if you would just stop and take 2 seconds to notice.

  15. I was amazed at carburetors and automatic transmissions that operated solely on vacuum signals and hydraulic pressure. But at least I understood how those things worked. BTW, how to I retrieve my livefyre password?

    1. Edward, I think that they could send it you through your email. However, I am no livefyre expert. But, I do know if you go to the livefire emblem and click on it, you can ask for help by clicking on comment help. I have had lots of help from from a very nice person named Dhara.

  17. Yes these things are quite amazing, so many things are amazing if you really think about them.... I often think of food. How did we come to understand what is edible and what isn't? Maybe we had better instincts? I have heard it said that children were relied upon to distinguish between poisonous and non poisonous food, because children had a more sensitive palate or something of that nature. Then bread for instance, who thought of it? Vegetables and fruits how amazing is that? Bridges, buildings amaze me.

Ideas amaze me. For instance, I don't know still if I understand you well or not. But, it always seems to me you are saying anyone can be wealthy. So I think, yeah, what about a person with a 70 point IQ and one inoperable limb? What will that person do to make loads of money? Well anything is possible right?

  18. If you don't appreciate the small things, you won't get the big things. Also, I've posted a video of a beautiful view from my balcony today.
