Forgiving Yourself…

Posted By: Randy GageMay 2, 2022

You screwed up.  You know it, everyone knows it, and now that’s all you can think about. But before you flagellate yourself too much, consider this: You’re comparing yourself to the impossible ideals of others based on their public persona. Not to mention your picture of your own idealized self.  But one of the integral elements of this species we call human is our inherent tendency to fall short.

Most people believe failure is the opposite of success, but that’s not really the case. Failure is a very necessary part of the success process because it’s your feedback loop from the universe.  It provides you the gift of new or additional information, in order that you may alter, change, or eliminate a course of action that won’t allow you to reach the goals you are seeking.

And there are also the failures of character…

You cheated on your spouse, gave in to an addiction, or did something terrible. All of us are horrified at our own behavior at some point.  This is yet another integral element of the human species.

When you fail, do your best to make it right. If you can’t, find a way to pay it forward.  And most importantly, forgive yourself.

Peace,

- RG

  1. The first person I forgave was myself. Then my abusers. That took some time, but I realized holding on to the anger was sabotaging my happiness, not theirs. I had to forgive and hug myself for that one too!

  2. Randy, this is spot on! If you want to see a powerful example of human behvior that deserves forgiveness, watch "The Survivor" On HBO Max.
