“Food” for Thought

Posted By: Randy GageJanuary 9, 2013

At the Luau last night, I came back from the dessert table with a couple bite-sized banana/chocolate pastries.  Ann, who was sitting next to me looked at my plate, then me, then calmly said, “You dare come back here with that after the fucking blog you wrote today!

Now that, was funny...  It reminded of the comment by Joe, who said he could now remove going on vacation with me from his bucket list.

I didn’t write that post to judge or condemn anyone.  (Or to cause them to lose sleep, as Brian had told me earlier in the day.)  First of all, I’m no one to judge…

Remember the scene in that Twilight movie when Bella cuts her finger and the blood drives Edward’s brother into a frothing frenzy?  That’s kind of how I react when I see the “Hot Doughnuts Now” sign flashing at Krispy Kreme.

I’ve had a sweet tooth my whole life.  I moved out on my own at 15, and basically subsisted on pizza, sodas, and candy for more than ten years.  As I got older it started to catch up to me, and I became aware of the connection between diet and health.

I still gulp the occasional Dr. Pepper and will treat myself to something sweet for desert like I did last night.  But here’s the difference:  Before breakfast yesterday, I did 60 minutes of cardio with a heartbeat over 110.  After breakfast, I did three sets of 12 reps on nine different weight machines for a total of 27 sets.  (Since I was on a retreat and the Grand Wailea has an amazing gym, I took advantage of it, doing a much longer workout.)  Then after lunch, I played an hour of pool volleyball.  (Helping Team USA defeat Italy for the world championship I might add!)  With exercise like that, I can burn a tremendous amount of calories, consume four or five meals a day, have some treats, and still maintain my weight.

I didn’t write the post yesterday because I want to be the food police.  The point was really about the questions posed, and you guys had some great comments in response.  The whole idea of why we would want to “cheat” just seems not to be a healthy one, and leads to the worthiness questions in the post.

It’s really worth some reflection on how much of our self-sabotage behavior and other dysfunctional habits are rooted in those worthiness issues.   The programming from advertising is certainly a factor, as is the peer pressure to conform with some clearly unhealthy behaviors.  And the addiction element is also a factor.

So the questions still remain…

Do we choose destructive choices because we are manipulated beyond our self-control by mind viruses from advertisers and physical cravings?  Are the bad choices and addictive actions merely symptoms of deeper worthiness issues?  Are we self-medicating with food (or alcohol and other recreational drugs) to divert from personal demons we’re not facing?

These are the real questions, and they’re not so much about food (or drugs), as they are about prosperity consciousness.  They speak to our self-image and core beliefs about what we think we’re worthy of.  And if I have learned anything about prosperity it is these two things:

1)   If you don’t have your health, you don’t have prosperity.

2)   You don’t manifest the prosperity you deserve – you manifest the prosperity you think you deserve.

Thoughts?

  1. The guilt Ann felt was the reason her energy showed pure upset and her foul language proved it even further. (Sigh) Those of us, Randy, will keep exercising because it Feels Good! Hopefully some will realize life is not really living if you can't bungi jump, ride jet skis and parasail all in the same day... (Now... for my next endeavor, Skydiving in 2013!)

    1. @DrJulissa Actually I don't think she was feeling guilty.  Ann exercises every day and eats better than I do.  I think she just thought I was nominating myself for the food police when I wrote the last post.

      1. @Randy_Gage  @DrJulissa Yeah... I can attest to Ann being a pure beast. She could easily take Gage any day of the week. She also has vicious attack dogs as back up as well so ya better be careful.

        1. @Wesley Anderson @Randy_Gage ah yes. Once again, my loving friends. Understood. It seemed she was so from the wording of post...
If dogs are involved, my South African Boerboel is 167 lbs... Same dog Patty LaBelle owns that aired on Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer. Not neutered, of course... Considered a rare breed that was bread in South Africa to protect the villages and fight lions that entered the villages at night to eat their women and babies... 😉

  4. I would say that it's based on worthiness issues. Yes, the datasphere and our peers certainly would contribute, but I would say that it's because they have their own worthiness issues that they are projecting onto us. People self-medicate with not only food/alcohol/drug addictions, but also work addiction. It's easier to reach for soothing, short-term relief than face the pain involved in resolving personal issues.

  6. Randy, for my entire life my "higher self" has been trying to "nudge me" to wake up to prosperity consciousness, I can see that still small voice, which get's ignored, overlooked, etc.. just isn't explained the way (so clearly) as you explain it in your Prosperity Cd's. We can all celebrate that and benefit from your work..  here's the thing..   having Iived the first 54 years of my life on this planet somewhere in the spectrum between "lack consciousness" and prosperity consciousness at a SUBCONSCIOUS LEVEL.   =  I had no idea of the relationship between thought and outcome in the external world., OR of the two types of consciousness..

Now that this work such as yours (current) and Charles Fillmore's (century old) and all excellent contributing thought leaders is more prevalent and available and in common discussion, we can now "celebrate" our potential more, consciously knowing and being able to "purposely activate" our prosperity powers and feel Rich and worthy. It's not only our birthright, it's right thing to do to honor our souls..to 'elevate or raise our consciousness'.   Desire and 'will' are now subject to conscious mastery to the 'multitudes',  rather than select (sometimes elitest) groups of people such as sages, martial artists and metaphysicians..

The cool thing IS.. the more one gains an understanding of their prosperity powers, the "clearer" one can be about what they can feel worthy of and what they can "engineer" (only word I can think of) greater worthyness based on the desire to be a "mature prosperous being" within..

For the LOVE of being a spiritual being!!!!!!!!  Yey, I always knew this truth existed!

Life and happiness are wonderful & exciting when the brain unlocks and "aha" moments are frequent current  events. Now it's "potential over sanity rather than visa-versa.

  19. OK Randy.. some tough love here..
I understand the gist of what you're saying, however, i would agree with what Ann commented. Your blog did come across as judgement and the fact that you did an extra work out is little more than a justification (which is an excuse in wolf's clothing). Forgive me if that's too blatant, but its how I interpret your blog.

However, I WILL agree that taking care of ourselves demonstrates a prosperity mindset. The fact that you 'jump off the wagon' on occasion simply shows your humanity. Balance is incredibly important in life and I believe that if we 'treat' ourselves its healthy and in line with an objectivism mentality.

Living in the Bay area we have access to the most amazing abundance of organic foods, talented chefs and of course, the wine country which is brimming with the sacred fruit. That said, similar to you, I will indulge in a glass of wine much like your Dr. Pepper, though the information available says  the soda is far more toxic. 🙂

  21. The hard truth is that the people who react negatively to your post are misguided. Think about it... why is Randy posting in the first place.. he truly wants to help people.. secondly.. whats the message behind the post.. be healthy.. to do so.. work on your mind.  Therefore, the only negativity that would result from such a post are misguided made-up beliefs that people are conjuring.  I am sorry if this comment is blunt.. but we are all blessed to have Randy Share his knowledge... let's take it in, engage in the debate, but ultimately use it to improve.

  24. Totally agree about us getting the prosperity we think we deserve and also with everything said on worthiness issues. I graduated from college in 1997 and weigh the same now as I did then. Maybe a little of it is genetics but I also agree with Randy on trying to understand why people would continue to rationalize in their head why it is ok to continue to be unhealthy. I eat all foods in moderation and I think that is part of why I am still thin.

  26. Many factors contributed to this. Habits, self sabotaging, self worth are the contributors to these unsupportive activities. When people get into their logical mind to compete with their urge, they will lose most of the time. For me, don't even go into a debate with the urge, do something that is opposite of it.

A simple example about exercising. Instead of debating with the other mind on waking up early to exercise, I stopped analysing. I wake up, change to sports gear and get out. I keep my mind in the most healthy state that way without wasting energy on the debates.
